West Covina home destroyed by fire

WEST COVINA — A fire destroyed a West Covina home early Wednesday and sent a woman to the hospital with minor injuries, officials said.
The fire was first reported about 12:25 a.m. at a single-story home in the 1900 block of East Eckerman Avenue, West Covina Fire Department Capt. Esteban Rodriguez.
The first firefighters to arrive found the home’s attached garage and porch engulfed in flames, the captain said. Seven adult residents had already managed to get out of the burning home.
Two-dozen firefighters extinguished the fire in about 25 minutes, Rodriguez said. One woman was taken to a hospital to be treated for minor smoke inhalation.
The fire spread to a neighboring home, causing only minor damage, he added. The residents of that home were not displaced.
Rodriguez said the fire caused an estimated $520,000 worth of damage to the home and its contents. The cause remained under investigation.
