Pasadena police car involved in minor collision

PASADENA – A police officer was involved in a minor traffic collision Thursday while responding to help another officer arrest an auto theft suspect, officials said.
The incident began just after 3 p.m. when an officer was alerted that a passing car had been reported stolen by an automated license plate reader system in the 500 block of East Washington Boulevard, Pasadena police Lt. Jason Clawson said.
The officer followed the stolen vehicle as it went down the driveway of an apartment complex and called for backup, Clawson said.
Another officer was rushing to assist with emergency lights and sirens activated when her patrol car collided with a pickup truck in the intersection of Washington Boulevard and Los Robles Avenue, the lieutenant said.
The officer was treated and released after complaining of pain, Clawson said. The driver of the pickup truck, who was not hurt, was cited for driving without a valid license.
The cause of the crash had not been determined Friday, he added.
“Traffic investigators are still trying to figure out the primary collision factor,” Clawson said.
Meanwhile, officers arrested Nicholas Cordova, 45, of Pasadena for auto theft without a struggle.
He was being held in lieu of $35,000 bail pending his initial court appearance, according to county booking records.
