A 69-year-old pedestrian from Whittier was in critical condition after he was hit Monday night by a sport utility vehicle which fled the scene.
Officers found the SUV, tracked down the driver and arrested him.
Whittier police Lt. Jay Tatman said the pedestrian was using a walker and was in a crosswalk when a Mercedes SUV struck him at 6:38 p.m. Monday in the 7000 block of Greenleaf Avenue.
The SUV, heading north on Greenleaf Avenue, didn’t stop.
The injured senior was flown by helicopter to Los Angeles County USC Medical Center. Tatman said the man remains in critical condition.
Officers found an empty SUV parked in the area of Greenleaf Avenue and Hadley Street which matched the description of the hit-and-run vehicle and had damage, according to Tatman. He said a witness also identified the vehicle as the SUV involved in the collision.
“We knew we had the right vehicle,” Tatman said.
Isaiah Storey, who lives in the unincorporated county area near Whittier, was arrested on suspicion of felony hit-and-run. Booking records show the 25-year-old Storey posted bond and was released Tuesday afternoon.
