Shoplifter strikes security guard in head with skateboard at Pasadena supermarket

PASADENA — Police are seeking a man who struck a security guard in the head with a skateboard after being caught shoplifting at a supermarket earlier this week, authorities said.
The theft-turned-robbery occurred about 5 p.m. Monday at Vons, at Colorado Boulevard and Sierra Madre Boulevard, Pasadena police Sgt. Victor Alaniz said.
A security guard in his 20s noticed the thief putting food items into a bag and tried to detain him outside the store, the sergeant said.
The shoplifter struck the security guard in the head with a skateboard, inflicting a cut above the victim’s eye, Alaniz said. The injured guard declined to be taken to a hospital for treatment.
Police said the assailant dropped the stolen items and fled. He was described as a man of unknown race in his 20s, about 5 feet 10 inches tall and 150 pounds.
