Man critically injured in Pasadena bicycle crash; identity unknown

PASADENA — An unidentified man remained hospitalized in critical condition Sunday after crashing his bicycle into a tree while riding downhill in a residential neighborhood, police said.
The incident was reported just before 3 p.m. Saturday on Glenullen Drive at Malcolm Drive, Pasadena police Lt. Jason Clawson said.
The identity of the man, described as a white and in his 20s, remained unknown Sunday as he was unable to speak and had no identification with him, he said. Traffic investigators continued working to identify him and checking with nearby agencies for matching missing person reports.
After finding the badly injured man lying in the roadway, police initially suspected he was the victim of a hit-and-run, Clawson said.
But as the investigation progressed, it appeared that the bicycle crash involved no other vehicles.
“He may have lost control of his bicycle due to speed,” the lieutenant said. “He collided with a tree.”
The man was riding east and downhill along Glenullen Drive, toward Avenue 64, when the crash took place, Clawson said.
The bicyclist, who was not wearing a helmet, suffered major head injuries, Clawson said.
