Deputies: Teen accidentally shoots brother in Pico Rivera

PICO RIVERA >> A 16-year-old boy accidentally shot and wounded his brother with a shotgun late Wednesday at their Pico Rivera home, authorities said.
The injured 18-year-old man was struck in the legs, shoulders and arms by what was believed to be birdshot in the incident, but was expected to survive his injuries, Los Angeles County sheriff’s Sgt. Scott Chapman said.
The shooting took place about 7:30 p.m. in the 5600 block of Eglise Avenue, the sergeant said.
The young men apparently discovered a shotgun in the home and were handling it when it discharged, striking the older brother, Chapman said.
“He was transported to (Los Angeles County-USC Medical Center) for treatment,” Chapman said. “It’s my understanding that he’s going to be okay.”
Deputies determined the shooting was accidental and no arrests were made Wednesday, he said.
Officials were continuing to investigate the incident and determine exactly who the shotgun belonged to, and how the 16-year-old boy ended up in possession of it.
