Man accused of punching, knocking out woman in Old Pasadena

PASADENA >> A drunken man punched and knocked out a woman during a dispute in Old Pasadena early Sunday, police said.
Jose Alfredo Castellanos, 27, of Los Angeles is accused of assault with a deadly weapon in connection with the alleged 1:40 a.m. attack on a sidewalk at Colorado Boulevard and Raymond Avenue, according to Pasadena police officials and Los Angeles County booking records.
Pasadena police Lt. John Luna said Castellanos approached the victim, a 21-year-old Los Angeles woman, and her friend and “tried to engage them in conversation.”
The victim became uncomfortable when Castellanos touched her friend on the hip, Luna said.
“The victim asked the suspect to leave, at which time the suspect pushed the victim,” the lieutenant said.
“The victim pushed the suspect back,” Luna said. (Castellanos) punched her in the head, rendering her unconscious.”
Responding police officers captured Luna following a short foot chase, Luna said.
After regaining consciousness, the woman complained of pain to her head and chest, but declined to be taken to a hospital, Luna said.
According to booking records, Castellanos was being held in lieu of $30,00 bail at the Pasadena Police Department’s jail pending his initial court appearance.

  1. TYPO – The article states “Responding police officers captured Luna following a short foot chase, Luna said.” The person captured was Castellanos not Officer Luna.
