ANGELES NATIONAL FOREST >> Rescuers flew a man to a hospital in critical condition Sunday following a motorcycle crash on San Gabriel Canyon Road in the Angeles National Forest north of Azusa, officials said.
The crash took place about 1 p.m. on San Gabriel Canyon Road, near the Bichota Canyon Trail, north of the San Gabriel Reservoir, according to California Highway Patrol officials.
For reasons that were being investigated by the CHP’s Baldwin Park office, the motorcycle collided with a Mercedes-Benz sedan, CHP Officer Patrick Kimball said.
A Los Angeles County Fire Department captain described the 21-year-old man’s condition as critical.
Two people who were inside the Mercedes-Benz were unhurt, officials added.
The occupants of the Mercedes-Benz, as well as other passers-by, comforted the motorcyclist until help arrived.
Paramedics loaded the motorcyclist into a helicopter and rushed him to a hospital for treatment, Kimball said.
Authorities shut down both directions of San Gabriel Canyon road at the crash scene for about half-an-hour following the collision.
