West Covina man shot at Del Norte Park

WEST COVINA >> An unknown attacker shot and wounded a West Covina man at a Del Norte Park late Saturday in what police suspect may have been a drug deal gone awry.
Officers responding to a 10:42 p.m. report of a “man down” near the gazebo north of the baseball diamond at the park, 1500 W. Rowland Ave., encountered a 41-year-old man suffering from a gunshot wound to his abdomen, West Covina police Lt. Dennis Patton said.
The victim was conscious and speaking with officers before he was taken to a hospital for treatment, but would not tell police what had taken place, the lieutenant said. His injury was not believed to be life-threatening.
No information regarding the shooter or circumstances of the shooting were available Sunday, however investigators were looking into the possibility the shooting stemmed from a drug deal.
The victim had methamphetamine in his possession, and is also named in a felony arrest warrant stemming from a narcotics case, Patton said.
