WHITTIER >> Police are planning a sobriety and driver’s license checkpoint late Friday.
The checkpoint will be held from 7:30 p.m. Friday to 3 a.m. Saturday at an undisclosed location within Whittier, Whittier police Officer John Scoggins said.
Over the past three years, DUI-related crashed in Whittier have resulted in three deaths and 188 injuries, Sgt. David Elizarraras said.
Funding for this weekend’s checkpoint is being provided by a grant from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, through the California Office of Traffic Safety.
“Good evening, Officer. I do not answer questions or make statements of any kind to the Police at any time.
I remain silent and I do not consent to searches, ever.
I waive no right at any time; in fact I reserve all rights at all times, and I am invoking those rights this very moment, and I want my Lawyer.
I would like to continue on my way, sir …~
Am I being detained, or am I free to go?”
