SOUTH WHITTIER >> Homicide detectives arrested man Wednesday who they have been seeking for more than a week in connection with the fatal stabbing of another man during a fight in South Whittier, authorities said.
Authorities found and arrested George Luis Delgado, 53, about 9:40 a.m. at a motel along Telegraph Road, just west of Rosemead Boulevard, according to Los Angeles County sheriff’s officials and booking records.
Delgado, described by investigators as transient, has been sought since the morning of Sept. 26, when he allegedly stabbed and killed 42-year-old Tyrone Duran of San Gabriel as the two men were involved in a fight in a residential neighborhood in the 13500 block of Trumball Street.
After more than a week of searching, and reaching out to the public for assistance, “We tracked him down at a motel in Pico Rivera,” Lt. John Corina of the Sheriff’s Homicide Bureau said.
The murder suspect offered no resistance, Corina said. “We picked him up without incident.
Delgado was scheduled for arraignment Friday in Downey Superior Court, records show.
“The victim and suspect knew each other and were hanging out in front of a residence,” Deputy Ryan Rouzan of the Sheriff’s Information Bureau said in a written statement. “They began to argue, and the argument escalated into a fist fight. Sometime during the fight the suspect stabbed the victim with a folding type knife.”
EP-150929594Paramedics took Duran to a hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
Delgado fan from the scene, leaving the knife believed to have been used in the stabbing at the scene, Corina said. He remained a fugitive until his arrest Wednesday.
Sheriff’s officials initially said the men appeared to have been arguing over a woman when the fatal stabbing occurred, however Corina said the investigation is ongoing.
“I’m not sure exactly what they were arguing about,” the lieutenant said.
Duran, who was not married, left behind two children, said Aimee Mendoza, who is an aunt to Duran’s son. She described him as energetic and gun, with a strong personality.
