UPDATED: Man killed in Pico Rivera shooting


PICO RIVERA >> Deputies sought two people following a shooting along Whittier Boulevard in Pico Rivera that left one man dead, officials said.
The shooting was reported about 6:30 p.m. at Whittier Boulevard and Acacia Street, Los Angeles County sheriff’s Lt. Sergio Escobedo said.
The victim, described as a man in his mid- to late-20s, succumbed to his injuries at a hospital just under an hour after he was shot, Escobedo said.
Initial reports from the scene indicated the culprits were a man and woman, last seen westbound on Whittier Boulevard on foot.
Deputies detained a man and woman nearby along Paramount Boulevard, north of Whittier Boulevard, following the shooting, officials said. Authorities kept a search perimeter in place as they worked to determine whether the detained man and woman were involved in the fatal shooting.
Detectives from the Sheriff’s Homicide Bureau were summoned to take over the investigation, Escobedo said.
