PASADENA >> Police made 34 arrests at the Rose Bowl during Saturday night’s soccer match between the United States and Mexico Friday night but reported no major incidents.
The sold-out CONCACAF Cup match between the rival teams drew more than 93,000 fans to the stadium, where Mexico ultimately defeated the U.S. 3-2 inn extra time.
Police arrested 16 people for drunk and disorderly conduct, six for illegal vending, five for ticket scalping, two for interfering with police duties, one for a drug violation, one for grand theft, one for battery, one for assault and one on an outstanding warrant, Pasadena police Lt. Jesse Carrillo said.
Twelve of the arrests took place inside the Rose Bowl, while the other 22 occurred around the outside.
Another 17 unruly fans were ejected from the stadium by police, Carrillo added.
The game was the first at the Rose Bowl between the U.S. and Mexican teams since June 25, 2011 when there were 26 arrests, primarily for suspicion of public intoxication, and the announced attendance was 93,420.
