UPDATED: 85-year-old San Gabriel man fatally struck by car in crosswalk

SAN GABRIEL >> An elderly San Gabriel man died Friday after he was struck by a car on San Gabriel Boulevard while walking home with groceries, police said.
Paramedics pronounced Yin Kong August Woo, 85, dead at the scene of the collision, which took place just after 5:20 p.m. in a marked crosswalk at San Gabriel Boulevard and Roses Drive, Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner Lt. David Smith said.
Woo was carrying groceries as he made his way east across the boulevard in a crosswalk, according to San Gabriel police Lt. Riki Nakamura. The intersection is not regulated by a traffic signal or stop sign.
A woman in her 20s driving a BMW 5-series sedan south on San Gabriel Boulevard failed to see the pedestrian, Nakamura said. He added that the victim was wearing dark clothing.
After striking Woo, the driver remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators, the lieutenant said. Intoxicated driving was not suspected.
The investigation is ongoing.

  1. This is why we urge the city of san Gabriel to fix the sidewalk lights on san Gabriel blvd. (Many doesnt work).
Also to Make crosswalks visible with reflectors on floor and reflective paint or street crossing signal if posible much better. Because people dont respect the pedestrian cross.
And finally take charge of speed from las tunas drive to colorado blvd. As many use it as a freeway (50-70) m/hr or weekends nights as nascar racing circuit for real!
Please help our city become safe again!! We have Kids, family, pets, and friends who are in danger too! My sincere condolences for the lost to his family.
