Elderly Norwalk man disappears after heading to store

NORWALK >> Officials and worried family members asked the public’s help Sunday in finding an 87-year-old Norwalk man who went missing after leaving home for a trip to the store.
Joe Arteaga was last seen about 12:10 p.m. Saturday, driving away from his home en route to Walmart at Imperial Highway and Pioneer Boulevard, Los Angeles County sheriff’s officials said in a written statement. He has not been seen or heard from since.
Arteaga is Latino, 5 feet 8 inches tall, 135 pounds, with balding gray hair and brown eyes. He was last seen wearing a red USC jacket, blue jeans, eyeglasses and a United States Marine Corps baseball cap.
He was driving a black 1999 Jeep Cherokee with a California license plate number of 4EUY630.
Sheriff’s deputies issued a Silver Alert. Arteaga has not been known to go missing in the past, officials added.
Anyone with information is asked to contact the sheriff’s Missing Persons Unit at 323-890-5500. Tips may also be submitted anonymously to L.A. Regional Crime Stoppers at 800-222-8477.
