Elderly woman in wheelchair fights off would-be robber in Pasadena


PASADENA >> A 76-year-old woman in a wheelchair fought of a would-be robber who tried to steal her purse and necklace Thursday, police said.
The failed crime took place about 11:50 a.m. as the victim was sitting in her wheelchair at Villa Street and Maple Way, Pasadena police Lt. John Luna said. A young man approached.
“The suspect attempted to forcibly remove her purse and gold necklace,” Luna said. “The victim was able to fight the suspect off.”
The robber fled empty-handed, the lieutenant said. The woman was unhurt.
Police described the failed robber as a black man between 17 and 20 years old, about 5 feet 6 inches tall, 160 pounds, wearing a dark-colored T-shirt and light-colored pants.
