UPDATED: Arcadia police ‘GPS bait package’ leads to arrest of package, auto theft suspect in Duarte

ARCADIA >> Police arrested a man after he tried to steal a package containing a police GPS tracker while driving through town in a stolen car Wednesday afternoon, officials said.
The incident began about 5:45 p.m. when police were notified that one of the department’s GPS bait packages, used to capture package thieves, had been snatched from a residential neighborhood in the 300 block of East Colorado Boulevard, Arcadia police Lt. Tom Cullen said.
Officers, aided by a police helicopter, swarmed in on the suspect, who was found driving in Duarte in a stolen Honda, Cullen said.
He pulled over and surrendered at Huntington Drive and Buena Vista Street in Duarte as police closed in, the lieutenant added. In addition to the police bait package, “Officers also found another package stolen from the same area,” Cullen said.
Edwin Figueroa, 26, of Canyon Country was booked on suspicion of grand vehicle theft, petty theft, possession of burglary tools and possession of drug paraphernalia, Cullen said.
Figueroa was being held in lieu of $25,000 bail pending his initial court appearance, officials said.
