Teen arrested following Pasadena carjacking

PASADENA >> A 17-year-old boy carjacked a man early Sunday before being quickly apprehended and arrested, authorities said.
A 47-year-old Pasadena man was asleep in his 1989 Toyota Corolla about 3:55 a.m. as it was parked in the 900 block of North Raymond Avenue, Pasadena police Lt. Mark Goodman said.
The teenage suspect approached the victim and demanded his car while holding an item in his hand, the lieutenant said.
“The victim believed the suspect was in possession of a handgun,” he said. The man turned over his car to the suspect, who drove away.
“Officers responded and located the vehicle approximately one block away, being drive by the suspect,” Goodman said.
Police pulled over the Toyota at Summit Avenue and Painter Street and took the teenage suspect into custody. He was taken to juvenile, and the car was returned to the victim.
No gun was recovered, Goodman said. It appeared the suspect used a cell phone to simulate a handgun during the crime.
