SWAT team responds to report of armed man barricaded in South Whittier home


SOUTH WHITTIER >> A SWAT team engaged in a standoff with a man who was believed to be armed and holed-up inside a home in South Whittier on Saturday afternoon.
The incident began about 1:30 p.m. in the 9900 block of Bona Vista Lane, in the unincorporated county area, according to Deputy Ryan Rouzan of the Los Angeles County sheriff’s Information Bureau.
“Special Enforcement Bureau deputies have assumed command of the tactical response and Crisis Negotiation Team personnel are on scene to bring the situation to a peaceful resolution,” Rouzan said in a written statement issued shortly after 5:30 p.m.
“Surrounding homes have been evacuated for the safety of the residents,” he said.
Deputies ultimately took the suspect into custody about 8:30 p.m., officials said.
