Pomona man escapes barrage of gunfire in Pasadena

PASADENA >> A Pomona man suffered minor injuries while fleeing from a volley of gunfire in Pasadena early Saturday, but escaped serious harm, officials said.
The shooting unfolded about 3:10 a.m. in a residential neighborhood in the 300 block of Barthe Drive, Pasadena police Lt. Mark Goodman said.
A 20-year-old Pomona man was standing in front of a home when he heard his two attackers yell at him, according to the lieutenant.
“The yelling was followed by five to six gunshots, none of which struck the victim,” Goodman said. “The victim sustained minor abrasions to his hands when he fell down while running away from the gunfire.”
Officers found evidence of the shooting at the scene, he said. But the attackers, who fled on foot, remained at large.
They were described as two Latino men between 20 and 25 years old, both armed with handguns. One wore a blue hooded sweatshirt, and the other wore a hooded sweatshirt of unknown color.
The motive in the shooting was not yet known. It was unclear if it was related to an ongoing spate of gang violence blamed for other recent shootings and slayings in the Pasadena and Pomona areas.
