Prosecutors file murder charge against 1 of 2 roommates arrested in deadly Pasadena shooting

PASADENA >> Prosecutors charged one man with murder on Wednesday, but declined to file charges against his roommate, in connection with an armed confrontation between the two men ended with the fatal, unintentional shooting of a woman visiting the home, authorities said.
Prosecutors filed charges of murder, attempted murder and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon against Felipe More, 63, of Pasadena for Saturday’s shooting in the 200 block of West Washington Boulevard, which claimed the life of 37-year-old Kelly Clark of Pasadena, Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office spokesman Greg Risling said.
He pleaded not guilty to the charges in the Pasadena branch of Los Angeles County Superior Court and was scheduled to return for a preliminary hearing setting on April 26, Risling said.
More’s roommate, 55-year-old Andrew Moore, was initially arrested on suspicion of murder along with More.
But prosecutors declined to file a case against Moore, citing “insufficient evidence,” according to Risling.
Clark, an acquaintance of both roommates, was visiting the home when the shooting took place, Pasadena police Lt. Jesse Carrillo said.
“(More and Moore) have an ongoing dispute that escalated,” the lieutenant said. It was not clear what the subject of the dispute was.
Moore retrieved a handgun and threatened More with it, he said. More than retrieved a handgun and returned, continuing the argument with his roommate.
As the argument continued, More fired two shots from his gun, Carrillo said. Clark was struck by the gunfire. Paramedics pronounced her death at the scene.
Police initially jailed both men on suspicion of murder. While More was accused of firing the shot that killed Clark, Moore was also accused of murder under California’s Felony Murder Rule, allowing for defendants to be charged with murder for unintentional death resulting from the commission of a serious crime.
According to county booking records, More was being held in lieu of $2 million bail.
