Three black males were targeted in a shooting on North Fair Oaks near Washington in Pasadena at 1:30 a.m., Tuesday. Suspects in the case were described three Latino males in their 20s, Pasadena police told reporter Amanda Baumfeld.
The men were targeted for "no reason at all."
Meanwhile, officials continue to claim there is no racial undercurrent in recent violence on Southland streets.
Brian Day got the photo in East Valinda near where two people were shot Easter Sunday. Just south of the candles, blood stains are still clearly visible.
Here's Brian's description of the photo:
Blood stains in the street mark the spot where a 17-year-old La Puente boy and his girlfriend, also 17 and from La Puente, were shot late Sunday. The boy remains hospitalized in critical condition, and the girl suffered a grazing wound and has been released from the hospital. Two unidientified men have been arrested in connection with the shooting. Though neither the wounded boy his girlfriend are gang members, officials believe the suspects are. The shooting occurred after the suspects asked the injured teens their gang affiliation.
Got this note via email. We do have some updated information on Friday's incident, but as for Saturday, we're still checking. Here's the note:
Hi Frank, any news on the two shootings in Baldwin Park last Thursday and Friday? (March 20th and 21st). Both happened on Barnes ave. I believe the Friday evening shooting was an attempted robbery . Two teens were injured. I been living here all my life and this is the worst gang activity I have ever heard of.
The shooting of 17-year-old Davien "Day Day" Graham got underway in Alhambra Tuesday with some chilling testimony from "Day Day," who recalled hearing someone holler a gang slogan before opening fire.
As a result of the shooting, Graham was paralyzed. The attack was part of a string of shootings that plagued Monrovia in December and January.
This from Fred Ortega, who attended the hearing for 19-year-old Jimmy Santana of Duarte, a suspected member of the Monrovia Nuevo Varrio 13 gang. Graham is black, Santana is Latino. Much of the violence has stemmed from an apparent race war, officials say.
He described how he was riding his bike back home from the dairy on Jan. 12 in unincorporated Monrovia when a burgundy compact rolled up slowly behind him.
“I heard someone say ‘Hey fool, (expletive) Dirt Rock,’ and then he started shooting,” said Graham, whose 17th birthday was on Monday. Dirt Rock in a derogatory term for the Du-Rock Crips, a Duarte-based black gang.
Pasadena police have set up a containment in the Northwest looking for a suspect in an apparent assault with a deadly weapon. They are bringing in the SWAT team and the armored vehicle.
Mentone and Stanton
Lincoln and Idaho
Lincoln and Howard
Lincoln and Wyoming
are several locations where the action is occuring.
The man who was stabbed after confronting taggers in Whittier Tuesday afternoon was taken to a local hospital. His condition remains unknown.
Police are saying the man was driving in a black Mustang when rolled up on taggers in the 11700 block of Broadway. He was stabbed with a boxcutter by a man wearing a shirt with the initials RIP. No one is in custody.
After being stabbed the man rolled out of his car and lay on the ground until help arrived.

5) MAN DOWN: PASADENA - A 27-year-old man stabbed an unincorporatd Pasadena resident several times early Monday morning, police said.
4) TRAIN DOWN: INDUSTRY - A train narrowly missed striking a pedestrian Monday morning after the man jumped out of the way, officials said.
3) WOMAN DOWN: ROWLAND HEIGHTS - A 20-year-old woman was killed and a man was seriously injured in a car accident Sunday night.
2) TEEN DOWN: WHITTIER - A 17-year-old was shot and wounded Sunday in what was described as a gang-related shooting. The teen was riding a scooter near Norwalk Avenue and Balfour street at the time of the incident, officials said.
1) CRANK DOWN: MONROVIA - Three arrested Saturday in a car loaded with more that 6 ounces of crank. Two men and a woman were taken in to custody by the Monrovia police.
It's been almost six weeks since the "crackdown" and it seems that the shootings are moving out of Monrovia and into Duarte.
On Sunday night a man was hospitalized following a shooting about 8:10 p.m. on Broach at Hurlock.
The wounded man was identified as a Latino in his 30s.
Suspects in the incident have also been described as Latino.
Not sure if this is related to the "spate" of shootings in January -- doesn't seem likely though.
