Sheriff to investigate why bailiff handcuffed court spokeswoman

From the Associated Press

LOS ANGELES (AP) — A Los Angeles County sheriff’s spokesman
says the department has begun an internal affairs investigation into
why a deputy acting as a bailiff detained and handcuffed a Superior
Court spokeswoman inside a downtown Los Angeles courtroom.

Sheriff’s
spokesman Steve Whitmore says deputy public information officer Vania
Stuelp was handcuffed Tuesday after she refused to
leave the area usually occupied by attorneys and would not follow the
deputy’s directions. He says Stuelp was not arrested.

Whitmore
says Stuelp walked into the well area to inform a French television
crew they could not film in a certain area of the court.

Court was not in session at the time.

Whitmore says a sheriff’s sergeant arrived recognized her as the court spokesperson and directed that she be released.

It’s the 12th homicide in Pomona this year. That leaves the city with twice as many slayings as any other city in the San Gabriel Valley and Whittier areas. Pasadena is a distant second with 6 killings.

That makes 70 homicides in the region this year. Seventy percent of them are by gunshot.

About that SWAT caravan a few weeks ago

LAPD SWAT units caused a stir on Aug. 3 when their caravan of scary looking vehicles sped through the San Gabriel Valley en route to a hostage rescue in Mira Loma.

The hostage had been shot through the gut and was apparently being held in a marijuana grow house.

The feds announced today they have indicted three suspects. Read the complaint against them below. It sounds like a wild, wild case. Highlights include the alleged bad guys attempting to secure $1 million in ransom from the man’s family in Russia and treating the gunshot wound through his bowel with Pepto Bismol and Mylanta.
