The incident was reported shortly before 8 a.m. at Puente and Temple avenues, Los Angeles County Fire Department Capt. Paul Sotelo said.
Firefighters treated a 17-year-old boy at the scene before taking him via helicopter to Los Angeles County-USC Medical Center, the captain said.
His vital signs were stable, however he appeared to have suffered head trauma and was rushed to the hospital as a precaution, Sotelo said. His condition was unclear.
The driver of the car remained at the scene, and nothing criminal was initially suspected, Los Angeles County sheriff's Sgt. Kelly Huffman said.
It initially appeared that the teen was running late for school and darted into traffic when he was struck, she said.
The incident began about 10:30 p.m. when deputies approached a man near a liquor store in the 1300 block of Valley Boulevard, Los Angeles County sheriff's Sgt. James Beamon said.
The man pulled a gun from his waistband and started running, the sergeant said. The deputies gave chase and called for backup.
A deputy responding to the call with emergency lights and sirens on became involved in a crash with another car at Nelson and Sunset avenues, Beamon said.
Neither the deputy nor the civilian were hurt, he said. Further details of the crash remained under investigation.
Officials continued their hunt for the armed man with the help of a helicopter, Beamon said, however he was not found. A description of the man was not available Friday.
A 22-year-old man was walking to his car about 9:10 p.m. on Pellissier Road, near Famosa Street, when he spotted the shooter, described only as male and wearing a dark baseball cap and a dark zip-up jacket, Los Angeles County sheriff's Lt. Steve Katz said in a written statement.
"The suspect was on the embankment of the transition road from the eastbound 60 Freeway to the southbound 605 Freeway when he fired approximately six shots at the victim," Katz said.
The man was not wounded by the gunfire, though his car was struck twice, Lt. Victor Sotelo said. He moved his car around the corner, then called for help.
No words were exchanged prior to the shooting, he said, and the victim did not report recognizing his attacker.
The victim was not believed to have gang ties, Sotelo added, and a motive in the shooting was unclear Thursday. "This is quite unusual," he said.
After firing the shots, the attacker was last seen running north up the embankment before he disappeared into the brush, officials said.
Sheriff's deputies and California Highway Patrol officers searched the area with the help of helicopters, but the shooter was not found, Katz said.
CHP officers briefly shut down the connector road between the eastbound 60 Freeway and the southbound 605 Freeway during the search, officials said, however traffic in the area was light at the time.
Marcos Ayala, 25, was booked on suspicion of attempted carjacking and Carlos Rivera, 23, was booked on suspicion of possession of methamphetamine, Los Angeles County sheriff's Sgt. Vic Sotelo said. Their cities of residency were not known.
The incident began about 5 p.m. when deputies approached three men standing near a car in a parking lot at Valley and San Angelo boulevards, Sotelo said. Deputies suspected the men may have been involved in a narcotics transaction.
Ayala ran from deputies and was arrested as he tried to carjack a vehicle nearby, the lieutenant said.
Another suspect, who was being detained without handcuffs in the back of a patrol car, kicked out a rear passenger window and ran away, Sotelo said. Deputies searched the area, but the man was not found.
Rivera was grabbed by deputies as he also tried to flee from the back of the patrol car, Sotelo said. Sheriff's officials said was found to be in possession of a small amount of methamphetamine.
Beverly Hills is considerably outside our San Gabriel Valley coverage area, so I don't often cross paths with the Beverly Hills PD. After the department carried out a series of narcotics raids in the San Gabriel Valley, and refused to say a word about it, I'm sorry to report my first encounter with the Beverly Hills police left me woefully dissapointed. Station officials would confirm only that narcotics detectives had served "a warrant" Thursday at an undisclosed time and place on planet Earth. It's none of our business, I guess. Thanks for the transparency.
The limited information available regarding Thursday's operations came from assisting agencies in the SGV:
WEST COVINA -- Police and federal officials arrested a West Covina man Thursday on suspicion of possessing about 600,000 ecstasy pills for sale, authorities said.
Drug Enforcement Administration officials and the Beverly Hills Police Department spearheaded the operation along with others, including one in Bassett, authorities said.
Police officers and DEA agents arrested the West Covina man and found the drugs while serving a search warrant at 6 a.m. at a home in the 1400 block of South St. Malo Street, West Covina police Lt. Ron Mitchell said.
The ecstasy was estimated to be worth about $6 million, he said.
The name of the 32-year-old man was not available Thursday.
The suspect was arrested without incident at his home, officials said.
Several family members were home while the warrant was served, though the man was the only person arrested, Mitchell said.
Involved police agencies said he was in federal custody.
Meanwhile in Bassett, Beverly Hills police served another warrant in connection with a methamphetamine investigation in the 100 block of 8th Avenue, Los Angeles County sheriff's Sgt. Hugo Macias said.
Sheriff's officials did not participate in the raid, and Hugo said he had no further information.
Beverly Hills police declined to release any information about what they were doing in other jurisdictions Thursday other than to confirm that narcotics detectives had served a warrant.
DEA spokeswoman Sarah Pullen referred all questions to the U.S. Attorney's Office, which could not be reached for comment Thursday evening.
The crime occurred about 6:15 p.m. in the 13200 block of Valley Boulevard, Los Angeles County sheriff's Sgt. Carlos Herrera said.
The victim, a man in his 20s, was pulled from his car by two carjackers who demanded money from him before fleeing in his car, the sergeant said.
The crooks fled with the victim's white, 4-door Chevrolet Malibu with license plate number BL8N148 and about $300 in cash, Herrera said.
They were described only as two Latino men between 18 and 23 years old, of medium height and build, he added.
No weapon was seen during the incident, officials said, and the carjackers were last seen driving west on Valley Boulevard toward the 605 Freeway.
The incident was the second time in two days someone was carjacked in the same Bassett neighborhood, though the suspect descriptions and methods used in the crimes varied greatly.
A man was carjacked of his Chevrolet Tahoe SUV about 1 p.m. Saturday at the corner of Valley Boulevard and Orange Blossom Avenue, sheriff's officials said, just over 1,000 feet away from the scene of Sunday's carjacking.
In that case, the carjackers were described as three black men with a red Chevrolet Camaro, Sgt. Chris Romash said. They used a handgun to steal the victim's black and gray SUV with a license plate number of 4TPW762.
Authorities said anyone who spots either stolen vehicle should call 9-1-1 immediately.
The crime occurred about 1 p.m. at Valley Boulevard and Orange Blossom Avenue in the unincorporated county area of Bassett, Los Angeles County sheriff's Sgt. Chris Romash said.
The victim was approached by three robbers, described only as black men in a red Chevrolet Camaro. At least one of the carjackers was armed with a handgun.
The men stole the victim's black and gray Chevrolet Tahoe at gunpoint before fleeing in both vehicles, the sergeant said.
The license plate number of the stolen SUV is 4TPW762, Romash added.
Anyone with information is asked to call the sheriff's Industry Station.
The crash occurred about 4:30 p.m. on the southbound 605 Freeway, just south of the 10 Freeway, California Highway Patrol Officer Jaime Rosas said.
For reasons that remained under investigation, he said, "(The motorcyclist) veered to the left, striking the concrete center median wall."
The injured rider, a 56-year-old Santa Ana man, was hospitalized at Los Angeles County-USC Medical Center, where doctors expected him to survive and were working to reattach his arm, officials said.
