POMONA — A Hacienda Heights man faces up to 60 years in state prison next month when he returns to court for sentencing after being convicted Wednesday of molesting four underage female relatives over an eight-year period, authorities said.
A Los Angeles County Superior Court jury in Pomona deliberated for about two hours before finding Juan Hernandez, 51, guilty of one count of continuous sexual abuse of a child and four counts of committing a lewd act on a child, Los Angeles County District Attorney’s officials said in a written statement.
He is scheduled to return to court for sentencing June 26, when he could received a maximum sentence of six decades behind bars, officials said.
“The prosecutor said Hernandez sexually molested four underage family members at various times between March 1999 and July 2007,” according to the district attorney’s office statement.
“Authorities were notified about the sexual abuse and the defendant was arrested Sept. 26, 2013 and held on $4 million bail,” the statement added.
The investigation was carried out by detectives from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department’s Special Victims Bureau.
In addition to being held without bail pending sentencing, Hernandez was also had a hold placed on him by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials, according to county booking records.

Former South El Monte High School volunteer sentenced for inappropriate photos of student
POMONA >> An ex-South El Monte High School volunteer received a one-year jail sentence Friday for taking inappropriate pictures of a 17-year-old boy who passed out at his home during a party, authorities said.
Andres Fernandez, 31, of South El Monte pleaded no contest last month to a count of possession of matter depicting a minor engaging in sexual conduct, Los Angeles County District Attorney’s officials said.
He was sentenced Friday in Pomona Superior Court to one year in county jail and five years of formal probation, district attorney’s office spokesman Greg Risling said. He will also be required to register as a sex offender.
Sheriff’s deputies arrested him March 30 in connection with the Dec. 2, 2013, incident at Fernandez’s home.
Prosecutors alleged he held a party at his home which was attended by several students.
“At the gathering, a male teenager got drunk and passed out,” district attorney’s officials said in a written statement. “While the youth was unconscious, Fernandez took inappropriate pictures of the teen.”
The pictures were discovered by a coworker, who notified the school, officials said. School officials, in turn, notified sheriff’s investigators.
Fernandez, who was free on a $20,000 bond pending trial, was remanded into custody following his sentencing, according to county booking records.

Caution children
Ice cream trucks sometimes freak me out. Years ago I wrote a story about a La Puente ice cream man who was also the neighorhood molester. He got busted and we ran the story way inside for politically correct reasons.
Anyway as I was driving home Wednesday night I got behind this ice cream truck and it’s large warning that read CAUTION CHILDREN.
I was wondering about the lack of puncuation. Should it read Caution, children. Or Caution. Children.
