Suicide suspected after man found dead in Pasadena

PASADENA >> Police did not suspect foul play after the body of a man was found hanging from a tree along Euclid Avenue in Pasadena in an apparent suicide early Sunday, authorities said.
The body was first discovered about 5:45 a.m., hanging from a tree in on a parkway in the 200 block of South Euclid Avenue, near Cordova Street, Pasadena police Lt. Jesse Aguilar said.
It was believed the man, estimated to his late-20s or early-30s, had taken his own life, Aguilar said.
Coroner’s officials took possession of the remains and will conduct an autopsy.

Suicide suspected after man found shot to death in West Whittier

WEST WHITTIER >> Suicide is suspected after a man was found fatally shot inside a car in the parking lot of a West Whittier motel early Sunday, authorities said.
A witness called for help about 6:30 a.m. after noticing a man in his mid-40s sitting unresponsive inside a car parked outside the Travelodge Whittier, 11530 Whittier Blvd. in the unincorporated county area, Los Angeles County sheriff’s Lt. Alex Villanueva said. Paramedics pronounced him dead at the scene.
A gun was found at the scene, and a review of video surveillance footage indicated the man had taken his own life, according to the lieutenant. There were no initial signs of foul play.
Coroner’s officials will conduct an autopsy.

Officials: Man fatally shoots mother, self in San Gabriel

SAN GABRIEL >> A man shot and killed his mother before turning the gun on himself in a San Gabriel apartment on Saturday night, authorities said.
The suspected murder-suicide was first reported at 10:08 p.m. inside an apartment in a large apartment complex on a residential cul-de-sac in the 1300 block of Stevens Avenue, according to Los Angeles County sheriff’s officials, who are assisting San Gabriel police in the investigation.
Police responded to the home after receiving a report of “shots fired,” Deputy Kimberly Alexander of the sheriff’s Information Bureau said in a written statement.
Officers found a man and woman suffering from gunshot wounds inside the apartment, officials said. Both were pronounced dead at the scene.
Homicide detectives determined the man, described as 49 years old, fatally shot his mother before shooting himself, according to Alexander.
The identities of the woman and son were not available.
No further details were available early Sunday.

Suicide suspected after teen falls from Colorado Street Bridge in Pasadena

PASADENA >> Suicide is suspected after a teenage girl plummeted to her death from the Colorado Street Bridge in Pasadena on Friday afternoon, officials said.
The incident was first reported about 2:45 p.m. on the bridge spanning the Arroyo Seco, Pasadena police Lt. Javier Aguilar said.
Witnesses first reported seeing a young woman who appeared as though she was preparing to leap from the bridge, he said. Callers then reported the person had plummeted from the 144-foot-tall structure.
Paramedics pronounced the teenage girl dead at the scene.
Coroner’s officials will conduct a death investigation, however, foul play was not initially suspected, Aguilar said.

Police: Man dies in jump from Colorado Street Bridge in Pasadena

PASADENA >> A man leapt to his death from the Colorado Street Bridge in Pasadena on Saturday morning, police said.
Foul play was not suspected in the death, which was being investigated as a suicide, Pasadena police Lt. Jason Clawson said.
Police received a report just after 8 a.m. that someone had witnessed a man jump from the bridge spanning the Arroyo Seco, he said.
The man, estimated to be between 30 and 50, appeared lifeless when police first arrived on scene, Clawson said. Paramedics subsequently pronounced the man dead.

Suicide suspected in man’s death in Angeles National Forest

ANGELES NATIONAL FOREST >> Foul play is not suspected in the death of a man whose body was found deep in the Angeles National Forest north of the San Gabriel Valley on Friday, officials said Saturday.
Two hikers reported discovering the body of a man, estimated to be in his 30s or 40s, shortly before noon in the parking lot of a trail head along mile marker 63.5 of Angeles Crest Highway, Los Angeles County sheriff’s Lt. Thomas Reid said.
After examining the body and the scene, the death was being investigated as a suicide, he said.
The man had suffered a puncture wound to his upper body, and an apparently hand-fashioned stabbing implement was found next to the body, Reid said.
Investigators from the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner will conduct an autopsy.

Police talk distraught woman down from Colorado Street Bridge in Pasadena

PASADENA >> Police crisis negotiators spent two hours persuading a distraught woman to return to safety and accept help after she threatened to jump from the Colorado Street Bridge in Pasadena late Saturday, officials said.
The incident began about 10:15 p.m. when officers responded to a Pasadena home to investigate reports of an argument between a man and a woman, Pasadena police Lt. Mark Goodman said.
Police discovered the woman had been involved in an argument with her husband, he said. The woman, who officers recognized from a previous suicide attempt at the Colorado Street Bridge, got into her car and drove away once police arrived. Police then learned she had told her husband she was suicidal.
“Officers suspected she may be going to the bridge,” Goodman said. “Their suspicions were correct.”
Police found the woman clinging to the outside of the safety railing along the south side of the fence along the iconic 144-foot-tall bridge.
Police crisis negotiators, as well as members of the department’s Homeless Outreach-Psychiatric Evaluation Team responded to speak with the woman.
“(They) spoke with her for about two hours and convinced her to climb back over to the safety of the bridge,” Goodman said.
The woman was taken to a hospital for psychiatric evaluation.

Man and woman found shot at Highland casino identified as San Gabriel residents; deaths ruled suicides

HIGHLAND >> Authorities have identified a man and woman from San Gabriel who were found shot to death inside a car at San Manuel Indian Bingo and Casino last week and determined both deaths were suicides, sheriff’s officials said Thursday.
The bodies of Thanh Lang, 50, and Nhu Ly, 50, were discovered inside a car parked in a parking garage of the casino, 777 San Manuel Blvd., San Bernardino County Sheriff-Coroner’s officials said in a written statement.
The man and woman, whose relationship was not clear Thursday, were pronounced dead after deputies responded to a report of two people found “unresponsive” inside a vehicle, according to the statement. “Upon arrival, deputies located an adult male and an adult female with apparent gunshot wounds. Both were pronounced deceased.”
Investigators have not yet been able to find next-of-kin for Lang an Ly and are hoping the public may be able to help locate their family, the statement said.

Man fatally shoots self in front of sheriff’s deputies in Norwalk

NORWALK >> A man fatally shot himself during a confrontation with sheriff’s deputies in the parking lot of a Target store on Friday morning, authorities said.
The incident unfolded shortly after 9 a.m. when deputies received report of a man pointing a gun at passing cars along the 605 Freeway at Firestone Boulevard, Deputy Ryan Rouzan of the Los Angeles County sheriff’s Information Bureau said in a written statement.
Deputies encountered a 24-year-old man attempting to break into cars outside nearby businesses, he said.
The man started walking west through a Target parking lot at 10600 Firestone Blvd. when deputies noticed he was carrying a handgun, officials said. Deputies approached the suspect in an attempt to stop him from crossing Firestone Boulevard.
“As deputies attempted to stop the suspect, he put the gun to his own head as if he was going to shoot himself,” Rouzan said. The man then began walking south the parking lot,
“The deputies tried to detain him, and the suspect continued to point the gun at his head,” he said. “The suspect stopped on the sidewalk in front of a local business and attempted to rack a round into the chamber of the gun.”
Rouzan said deputies ordered the man to drop his gun and tried to prevent him from entering nearby businesses.
“The suspect then turned and pointed the gun at deputy personnel, at which time deputies fired multiple rounds, missing the suspect,” Rouzan said.
“The suspect then ran between two cars in the parking lot, placing the gun to his head, and shot himself,” the deputy said.
Paramedics took the badly wounded man to a hospital, where he was placed on life support, officials said. He ultimately succumbed to his injuries.
Deputies recovered the suspect’s semi-automatic pistol at the scene.
The man’s identity was yet to be released pending positive identification and notification of family.
The motive for the suspect’s behavior remained unclear.
“The reason for the suspect’s actions is unknown at this time,” Rouzan said.

Death of man along Rosemead Boulevard in Pico Rivera ruled a suicide

PICO RIVERA >> The death of a 26-year-old Pico Rivera man found fatally shot along Rosemead Boulevard and Pico Rivera has been formally ruled a suicide, coroner’s officials said.
The body of the man was discovered about 7:15 a.m. Saturday along an access trail along Rosemead Boulevard, just north of Gallatin Road, Los Angeles County sheriff’s and coroner’s officials said.
Detectives from the sheriff’s Homicide Bureau responded and investigated the scene, which initially appeared to be a suicide, sheriff’s Lt. Noe Garcia said at the time.
An autopsy determined that the man died from a gunshot wound to the head, and the death was ruled a suicide, according to coroner’s records.
