fire: September 2008 Archives
SANTA FE SPRINGS -- A person was hospitalized with burns Sunday after a propane tank fire, according to police, however few details are available as the fire department did not provide any information.
The incident was reported about 3:30 p.m. in the 10900 block of Gard Avenue, Whittier police Lt. Steve Dean said.
The injured person was believed to be trying to put out the fire, he said.
Several nearby homes were evacuated as firefighters worked on the blaze, Dean said.
A dispatcher at the Santa Fe Springs Fire Department refused to give out a direct phone number to the handling station, or even to pass along a reporter's phone number to fire officials. She also said the department has no public information officer, and that there was simply no way for the department to release information on the incident Sunday.
What happens in Santa Fe Springs stays in Santa Fe Springs, I guess.
