Teens arrested for auto theft in West Covina

WEST COVINA -- Three Los Angeles teens in a stolen Honda Accord were arrested after a chase through local streets that ended in a crash Thursday.
One of the boys fled but was later discovered in a trash can, according to West Covina police Lt. Marty Sevilla.
A police dog bit him as well as the suspect driving the stolen car.
The incident started at 10:47 p.m. on Sunset and Cameron avenues when a sergeant ran the license plate of a 1997 Honda Accord and it came back as being stolen from Los Angeles.
Sevilla said several units followed the car and when they tried to pull it over, the driver took off.
While heading south on Valinda Avenue, he said the driver tried to make a left turn into Meadowside Street, lost control, crashed into the southeast corner and hit a wall.
The driver tried to run but was captured by a police dog. The rear passenger surrendered and was taken to a hospital as a precaution, Sevilla said.
He said the teen sitting in the front passenger seat bolted and ran across a gated community in the area of Lemongrass Lane and Olive Grove lane which is in the county area.
"He was found hiding in a trash can," Sevilla said.
The three teens were arrested on suspicion of grand theft auto and felony evading.

PASADENA -- Authorities jailed two men Saturday on suspicion of auto theft after they were pulled over in an allegedly stolen car.
Clarence Jackson, 30, of Altadena and Termel Mercer, 30, of Palmdale were booked on suspicion of grand theft auto, Pasadena police Lt. Diego Torres said.
Officers spotted the 2011 Nissan Altima driving about 4:30 p.m. at Fair Oaks Avenue and Washington Boulevard and realized it had been reported stolen, the lieutenant said.
They then pulled the Altima over and arrested the two men inside -- later identified as Jackson and Mercer -- without a struggle, Torres said.
According to county booking records, Jackson was being held in lieu of $45,000 bail pending his initial court appearance, while Mercer was being held in lieu of $25,000 bail.

Police ultimately pulled over the Impala and arrested Diaz without incident at the 60 Freeway and Atlantic Boulevard in East Los Angeles, Vuncanon said.

INDUSTRY -- Sheriff's deputies arrested two teenage gang members on suspicion of stealing a car late Friday, authorities said.
The boys, ages 16 and 17, were booked on suspicion of auto theft, Los Angeles County sheriff's Lt. Steven Katz said in a written statement. Their names were not released due to their age.
Deputies spotted a stolen car in the area of Nelson and Orange avenues about 10 p.m., the lieutenant said.
The deputies followed the car to the parking lot of a nearby liquor store, he said, where the teen suspects fled on foot.
They were found in the area a short time later, Katz said, and taken to Los Padrinos Juvenile Hall in Downey.
Officials added that the car had been reported stolen from Monrovia on Wednesday.

Police robbers target Play Station 3s

This is an excerpt of a Brian Day story running in tomorrow's newspaper. I think it enhances my theory that the world has turned into a giant game of Grand Theft Auto IV:

Three recent video game store robberies in which thieves seemed more interested in games, not cash, might be connected, authorities said Tuesday.

Detectives from the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department Major Crime Bureau are investigating a possible link between robberies at GameStop locations in Rosemead, Pico Rivera, and Bellflower that occurred between April 22 and Sunday, officials said.

The most recent incident was at a Rosemead GameStop store, located at 3000 San Gabriel Blvd., said sheriff's Sgt. Tri Hong.

Four robbers stole six PlayStation 3 video game systems and fled, said store manager Jovan Sanchez.

At least one handgun was used in the crime, Hong said.

Sanchez described the robbers as well-mannered and who said "please" as they demanded the video game systems.

Grand Theft Auto IV

gtaiv.pngI doubt there's any statistics to prove or disprove this theory, but I think the number of police chases increases nationally when new versions of Grand Theft Auto are released.

The latest version of the game, Grand Theft Auto IV was released a couple of weeks ago, and all of a sudden, it seems that I'm reading about more and more pursuits.

Here's some examples:

Video shows police beating restrained suspects.

Police pursuit ends in arrest.

Police pursuit ends at LA Harbor.

Police pursuit requires air support.

San Diego cops chase man after he steals three copies of GTA IV

Coincidence?
