Apparently the state has suspended payments to a home for registered sex offenders in Hacienda Heights. As a result several Megan's Law registrants will be transient for at least tonight, officials said.
The home in the 14300 block of Ansford Street in Hacienda Heights is near a group home at 14523 Ansford Street officials said. Several of the registrants were recently placed in the home.
All are fitted with GPS tracking devices, officials said.
Here's our story so far:
HACIENDA HEIGHTS - A half-dozen convicted sex offenders may be sleeping on the streets as they are faced with the threat of eviction due to a bounced government check, an attorney said.
Attorney Mike Balmer, who represents one of the registrants living in the home, said a government-issued check bounced, causing the sex registrants living in the home in the 14000 block of Ansford Street to be evicted.
"There's nothing we can do about it," said Los Angeles County Sheriff's Sgt. Paul Puchalski, of the Industry station. "As long as they don't commit a crime, we can't much help it if they are getting evicted."
California State Department of Corrections spokesman Gordon Hinkle said he could not immediately provide details of the situation, but said in general, "The state and corrections does not have a responsibility to provide housing for any parolee."
"It's something we do an a case by case basis," Hinkle said, "in the best interest of rehabilitation and public safety."
Balmer said the residents of the home were told to vacate by Friday evening.
This from Whittier Daily News crime guru Ruby Gonzales:
WHITTIER -- A wanted parolee and alleged sex offender who holed up in a hotel across from the sheriff's training academy surrendered to deputies after a two-hour standoff Wednesday.
Arthur Van Meter, 38, was taken into custody by officials with the California Department of Corrections.
Sheriff's Capt. Patrick Maxwell said Van Meter gave up after talking to sheriff's negotiators. No weapons were found in the room, he added. No one was injured during the incident.
Gale Frazier, supervisor at Pasadena Parole Unit I, said Van Meter was on parole for domestic violence and is a sex offender. She said Van Meter had a GPS device attached to him.
However, a search of the Megan's Law database didn't turn up an Arthur Van Meter.
She said Van Meter was supposed to report to parole on May 5 but didn't show up so a no-bail warrant was issued for him on May 6."He failed to report. Two agents went to his last residence, found the GPS device. And he had disappeared," Frazier said.
Parole agents tracked Van Meter to the Days Inn at 14330 Telegraph Road. Maxwell said when Van Meter refused to come out, parole called in help from the sheriff's Norwalk Station at about 11 a.m.
You can read the entire story in tomorrow's newspaper.
This comes from Monica Rodriguez at the Daily Bulletin:
POMONA - It's now difficult, if not impossible, for registered sex offenders to move here.
City Council members have unanimously approved an urgency ordinance that essentially prevents additional registered sex offenders from moving into the city.
Under the new regulation, just about every part of the city would be excluded.
Well not really. This one is a motel...Close to Disneyland and Knott's. Nice going California. This information comes from a letter I received today here's the letter:
Frank:
I read your column regarding RSO's in Altadena with interest. I sent this email to DOJ in November of 2007. To date I have had no response.

Subject: budget motel
To Whom it May Concern;
36 of the 62 RSO's living in Santa Fe Springs, CA 90670 and according to the CA Attorney General's Meagan's Law Site, are registered to a budget motel 13420 Firestone Blvd. One appears to be registered to 13530 Firestone Blvd.
I have comments and questions:
Questions:
1. Is the travelling public made aware by law, law enforcement, or public or private policy that a budget motel near disneyland and knott's berry farm is occupied by 37 Registered Sex Offenders?
2. Would a California citizen i.e. a man, wife, and 3 small children stay at this motel if this information were presented to them prior to their check-in?
3. What liability would accrue to state or local governments should a crime occur against one of these kids, or their parents for that matter?
4. Do you think that an effort should be made to pass legislation that would require these facilities occupied by RSO's be required to advise the public?
Comments:
1. This motel seems to be in a good location to provide residences to RSO's. It is a very industrial area and near some restaurants and possible places of employment.
2. It seems that it is a matter of time that a serious crime will occurr unless there is some notification of the public that may happen by for a break in their travels and check in to this place.
I would appreciate a response
Respectfully,
Jim Burton

Daniel Eric Davidson and Ronald Joseph Jacobs live in (what KFI's John and Ken call) a clown house on Bonsallo Avenue in Los Angeles.
On Monday, these two were picked up by cops bicycling away from Raging Waters in San Dimas.
What's interesting about the clown house Jacobs and Davidson live in, is its proximity to several schools (take a look at the map). Wasn't Jessica's Law suppossed to keep this from happening?
In light of recent events surrounding pedophile Jack McClellan,
