Speaking through an attorney Thursday, former Rams placekicker Tony Zendejas maintained his innocence.

"The charges are utterly false," attorney Tim Younger said.

Lunch time traffic at Zendejas' plush sports bar was light Thursday.

A manager identifying himself as "Marty" said he could not comment and referred all questions to Younger.

Zendejas is charged in an ugly rape case and was arrested Thursday morning at his home in Yorba Linda. A woman claims he drugged her and raped her in a motel room on Jan. 26. The criminal complaint alleges the the woman suffered great bodily harm as a result of the rape.

The accident on Glendora Mountain Road Monday claimed the life of  an 18-year-old who was apparently not wearing a safety belt, according to early reports. This from reporter Amanda Baumfeld, who is working the story this morning:

Mary E. Lange, 18, has died after a car she was a passenger in went over an embankment on Glendora Mountain Road Monday around 6 p.m., according to Officer Elizabeth Van Valkenburgh of the California Highway Patrol.

It is likely that Lang was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected from the car, Van Valkenburgh added.

Lange was riding in a Toyota Tercel apparently driven by *Stephanie Bergner, 18, * officials said. The driver lost control and the car careened over an embankment at mile marker 5*, authorities said. Berger and a third girl, identified as Esther Cota, were severely injured.

WASHINGTON, May 29 (Reuters ) - U.S. communications regulators are considering auctioning a piece of the airwaves to buyers willing to provide freebroadband Internet service without pornography.
Federal Communications Commission Chairman Kevin Martin is proposing to auction an unused piece of 25 megahertz wireless spectrum, with the condition that the winning bidder offer free Internet access and filter out obscene content on part of those airwaves, a spokesman for the FCC said on Thursday.
"We're hoping there will be increased interest in the proposal; and because this will provide wireless broadband services to more Americans, it is certainly something we want to see," said FCC spokesman Rob Kenny.
Under Martin's proposal, the winner would be allowed to use the rest of the airwaves for commercial services.
The plan would address criticism from some consumer advocates, who say the government has not done enough to get broadband service into more U.S. households. It also could win praise from anti-obscenity watchdog groups.
"I think there are a number of features of the plan that would be attractive to various constituencies," said Stifel Nicolaus analyst Blair Levin.
But the plan got a lukewarm response from existing wireless carriers. 

This is a brief that will run in tomorrow's paper, and the story is apparently a little stale. But I like it because of several elements.  I'm sure you all can guess what elements. Here's the jist of the piece:

A 15-year-old local boy was arrested on suspicion of eight area burglaries after his parents noticed incriminating statements on his MySpace page, said Glendora police Detective Marty Barrett.

After viewing the MySpace entries,  the boy's parents searched their son’s room and found what appeared to be stolen property. After that, they called the cops.

Four of the burglaries were to homes, and the other four were to cars, police said. In each case the boy allegedly took advantage of unlocked doors and windows to commit the crimes, Barrett said.

The burglaries took place over a three week period.

Jewelry, cash, credit card information, electronics, Playboy mags, and adult movies were among the items stolen, Barrett said. All but the cash were recovered.

The teen allegedly used stolen credit card information to purchase $600 worth of iTunes, said the detective.

Once arrested, the teen suspect was “extremely cooperative,” and pointed out all the locations he’d struck, Barrett said. Two of the victims weren’t aware their property had been stolen.

 

This was posted on Neal Williams' MySpace this a.m. it purports to be a picture of Williams and wife Man-Ling.
The wife is currently booked on felony charges at the Lynwood jail, according to the LASD's inmate locator.

Lots of details emerging late in this case. The victims have now been identified as Neal Williams, 27; Devon Williams, 7, and Ian Williams, 3.
Williams wife, Man-ling, is still being questioned by deputies and is now basically a person of interest.

A new study found some interesting facts about the differences between users of MySpace and Facebook.
I haven't really considered this element when using either to profile people, but it worth taking a look at.

I found an interesting MySpace this a.m. Looks like it might be connected with Deandre Netter, a 17-year-old San Gabriel resident who was killed in a drive-by shooting last week in Temple City. No arrests have been made in the case.

AP ran a story on mydeathspace this morning. It does exactly what it says; provide a listing of dead MySpace-ers. The story includes a refrence to a Covina man, who died in Iraq late last year.
BTW, myspace is an important tool here on the crime desk. We've used it to profile victims, suspects and even sources. Usually, when they get wise they take it private, but that's how it goes.
