That makes 70 homicides in the region this year. Seventy percent of them are by gunshot.

Jon Hagen, 29, Jonah Arnold, 18, and Marco Afolayan, 18, were booked on suspicion of armed robbery, Pomona police Officer Steve Prentice said in a written statement.
Police responded to a report about 1 p.m. that three men used a shotgun rob a Postal Annex, 3262 N. Garey Ave., according to the statement.
"Store employees and customers were held at gunpoint by the suspects, and an undisclosed amount of cash was taken along with other property," Prentice said.
Officers found the fleeing suspects' Dodge Durango within blocks of the business, he said.
The suspects then led police on a high-speed chase on the 210 Freeway, Prentice said, during which they threw a shotgun from the SUV.
The pursuit ended in a residential neighborhood in Rialto, where the alleged robbers abandoned their car and ran, the officer said.
One was captured immediately, he added, while the other two were found hiding in the area with the help of a helicopter and police dogs.
According to sheriff's booking records, Hagen, Arnold and Afolayan were being held in lieu of $100,000 bail each and are due for arraignment in Pomona Superior Court Monday.
The plaintiffs include more than 50 people who attended an August 2008 community meeting to discuss the checkpoints, which some residents say targeted Latinos.
Plaintiffs say police officers in plainclothes came to the meeting at a local religious center and threatened and intimidated participants. The lawsuit filed last week in Los Angeles accuses the officers of interfering with their rights to free speech, assembly and religion.
Mark Gluba, assistant to the city manager in Pomona, said Tuesday officials are studying the allegations.
Police have said the checkpoints were set up to look for drunk drivers and traffic safety violations.
The body of Yanely Ulloa of Santa Ana was found Aug. 5, 2005, inside the trunk of her then-boyfriend's 1984 BMW abandoned in the 900 block of West Mission Boulevard in Pomona, Pomona police Sgt. Matt Stone said in a written statement.
She died from multiple stab wounds and other unknown injuries, Los Angeles County Department of Coroner Assistant Chief of Operations Ed Winter said.
The boyfriend, 25-year-old Jose Martin Granados, and his family disappeared shortly after the killing and have not been seen since.
"Yanely Ulloa had run away with Jose Granados about a week before her death," according to the police statement. "It was the last time she was seen alive."
At the time of the slaying, Granados was staying with his mother, 47-year-old Benita Villa-Cervantez, and brother, 23-year-old Francisco Granados, in Anaheim, authorities said.
Detectives tracked Granados, his mother and his brother to Cuernavaca, Mexico, but were unable to find them, Stone said. They are believed to still be living in Mexico.
Jose Granados and his family members are not considered suspects in Ulloa's death, he added, "But are believed to know the circumstances surrounding her death.
Police also want to talk to Jose Granados' father, 51-year-old Carlos Palacios, who is believed to be living somewhere in the United States.
Ulloa is survived by a daughter, Stone added.

The motorcyclist was southbound on the freeway at an unknown speed when he lost control of his Kawasaki motorcycle and was thrown into traffic lanes, California Highway Patrol Officer Edmund Zorrilla said.
He was then struck by the rear tires of a Chevy box truck being driven by a 53-year-old man from Mesa, Arizona, Zorrilla added.

POMONA -- A 1-year-old boy died Friday after authorities say he ran in front of a van and was struck.
Police say the incident occurred shortly after 2 p.m. The van's driver, 50-year-old Larry Shyne, drove the boy to a hospital with one of the child's relatives.
The boy, whose identity wasn't immediately released, suffered major injuries and died at the hospital.
Police Sgt. Michael Olivieri says it appears the boy went into the street from the sidewalk and was hit by the van.
No citations or arrests have been made. The investigation is ongoing.
Police received 9-1-1 calls shortly after 2 p.m. reporting a child had been run over by a car in the 1300 block of Laurel Avenue, Pomona police Sgt. Patrick O'Malley said in a written statement.
"Pomona police officers responded and located the child in the arms of family members," the statement said.
Authorities flew the injured girl by helicopter to Los Angeles County-USC Medical Center, O'Malley said.
The girl's neighbor, a 45-year-old woman, apparently ran over the girl accidentally in her Toyota Corolla, police said.
"The preliminary investigation indicates the small child walked out of the garage at the same time the neighbor was backing their vehicle out of he driveway," according to the police statement.
Police did not suspect drugs or alcohol were involved.

Police say 24-year-old Richard Cardoza was booked for felony DUI and is being held on $130,000 bail.

Cardoza also was taken to a hospital and released.
Ramiro Juan Alvarez, 24, of Azusa and Rodney Coronel Perez, 28, of Covina are suspected in the death of 24-year-old Roberta Marie Romero of West Covina, Pomona police Sgt. Matt Stone said in a written statement.
"Both Alvarez and Perez are being charged with murder and are held in county jail without bail," the statement said.
Police responded to calls of gunshots heard in the area of Glenpark Street and Bellevue Avenue in Pomona about 5 a.m. when they found Romero lying in the street, Stone said.
"The victim was shot in the upper body," the statement said.
Romero was pronounced dead at the scene about 20 minutes after the shooting was reported, Investigator Lydia Granado-Mata of the Los Angeles County Department of Coroner said.
The cause of death was determined to be multiple gunshot wounds, she said.
A motive in the slaying was not released Thursday.
Detectives from the Pomona Police Department and other agencies worked together on the investigation and came up with possible suspects, Stone said.
Authorities learned late Monday that the suspects were possibly in the area of Third Street and Tippecanoe Avenue in San Bernardino, Stone said, and San Bernardino County sheriff's deputies were sent to find them.
Deputies found Alvarez and captured him after a brief foot chase, the sergeant said.

According to court records, Alvarez was being held in Los Angeles County on Thursday, while Perez is being held in San Bernardino County.
