Here's another story with local ties from our friends at the San Bernardino Sun:
CALIMESA -- Authorities arrested a San Gabriel man Friday morning during a traffic stop in Calimesa on suspicion of selling methamphetamine, authorities said.
A Riverside County sheriff's deputy stopped a car being driven by Louie Rosales, 42, on suspicion of a traffic violation at 1:15 a.m. near Calimesa Boulevard and Sandalwood Avenue, according to the Riverside County Sheriff's Department.
The deputy saw Rosales, of San Gabriel, attempting to hide something in the floorboard of his vehicle, sheriff's officials said. The deputy also saw a plastic bag protruding from one of Rosales' shoes.
Officials found 7.2 grams of suspected methamphetamine in Rosales' possession. He also had several small bags, packaged equally, that were consistent with illicit drug sales, said sheriff's officials.
Rosales was booked into Larry Smith Correction Center on suspicion of possession and transportation of methamphetamine for sales.
The crash occurred about 5:20 p.m. Tuesday at San Gabriel Boulevard and Live Oak Street, San Gabriel police Sgt. Antonio Hernandez said.
The woman was walking in a marked crosswalk when a 43-year-old West Covina woman driving a sedan failed to see her in time, the sergeant said.
The driver remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators, he added, and no signs of a crime were apparent Thursday.
The injured woman had no identification with her when she was struck, police said.
She is described as about 70 years old, Asian, about 5 feet tall and about 90 pounds. She was wearing a white shirt and a black skirt.
She was listed in grave condition at a hospital Thursday, Hernandez said.
"We're just trying to find her loved ones," he said.
Anyone with information is asked to call the San Gabriel Police Department and refer to case 2009-02612.
Trang Nguyen, 42, was being held in lieu of 20,000 bail, according to sheriff's booking records.
The crash occurred about 7:30 p.m. Friday at San Gabriel Boulevard and Chestnut Avenue, San Gabriel police Lt. Chris Ortell said.
Sheriff's officials said the deputy was hospitalized but was expected to be OK.
The minivan Nguyen was driving burst into flames following the crash, officials said, however he was able to escape unharmed.
The deputy was driving north on San Gabriel Boulevard as Nguyen was trying to make a left turn from southbound San Gabriel Boulevard onto Chestnut Avenue, Ortell said.
Nguyen apparently failed to yield the right of way and turned in front of the oncoming deputy, he added, who did not have emergency lights or sirens on.
Sheriff's booking records indicate Nguyen is due in Alhambra Superior Court for arraignment Tuesday.

Officials responded to a call about 10:25 a.m. from a woman living in the 800 block of East Hermosa Drive who reported there were burglars in her house, the sergeant said.
Upon their arrival, officers spotted two men matching the description running from the area and entering nearby Goody's Restaurant, 865 E. Las Tunas Drive, Kott said.
The men were found in the bathroom of the restaurant, apparently trying to hide clothing and burglary tools used in the alleged crime, he said.
They were arrested without further incident, Kott added.
Both suspects are admitted gang members, he said.

Kenneth Parker, 18, of San Gabriel was booked on suspicion of kidnapping to commit rape, attempted rape, burglary and assault with a deadly weapon, police and sheriff's officials said.
Detectives from the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department Major Crimes Bureau were conducting surveillance looking for a serial robbery suspect when they saw the crime and jumped into action, sheriff's officials said in a written statement.
"They did a great piece of police work," San Gabriel police Lt. John Tuosto said of the deputies. "My personal opinion is, not only did they save her from being raped, it could have been a lot worse."
The incident occurred about 7:30 p.m. in the 1700 block of Palm Avenue when the sheriff's detectives saw Parker grab and attempt to rape a woman, the sheriff's statement said.
The woman escaped before the detectives could intervene, but Parker grabbed a second woman moments later and dragged her into a business in the 100 block of East Valley Boulevard, sheriff's officials said.
Detectives followed Parker as he took the woman into a rear bathroom of the business and locked the door, San Gabriel police Sgt. Brian Kott said.
They then entered the room, rescued the woman and detained the suspect who was booked at the San Gabriel Police Department, according to the sheriff's statement.
In addition to punching and hitting the woman during the rape attempt, Kott said Parker may have grabbed an object inside the business and struck her with that.
According to court records, Parker is being held in lieu of $1 million bail and is due for arraignment at Alhambra Superior Court Monday.
Mark Henry Cons, 47, of San Gabriel was booked on suspicion of robbery, Los Angeles County sheriff's officials said in a written statement.

The arrest came at the end of a surveillance operation that was being conducted by detectives from the sheriff's Temple Station, sheriff's Major Crimes Bureau and the San Gabriel police department, the statement said.
Cons was taken into custody without incident at his San Gabriel home at 1702 S. Palm Avenue, officials added.
A search warrant was also carried out at the home, officials said.

A jury today found that George W. Pigman IV was insane at the time he stabbed his girlfriend to death with barbecue tongs in 05 in San Gabriel.
A man accused of molesting four girls at a San Gabriel elementary school was cleared of three of the accusations Thurssday. In the fourth charge, the jury could not reach a verdict. City News Service reports below:
ALHAMBRA - An outside contractor who had been accused of inappropriately touching three female students at an elementary school in San Gabriel was acquitted today of three charges, but jurors deadlocked on a count involving a fourth girl.
The Alhambra Superior Court jury deliberated just over a day before acquitting Daniel Roy Smith, 43, of Fullerton, of two felony counts of lewd act on a child and a misdemeanor
child annoying charge.
The panel deadlocked 9-3 in favor of acquittal on a third lewd act charge, according to defense
attorney Leonard Levine.
"We're hopeful that the remaining count will be dismissed," Smith's attorney said.
The prosecution is expected to announce at the next hearing Feb. 13 whether it wants to retry Smith on the charge, which involves a girl who was 7 at the time.
"We'll look at the decision on whether to retry him," Deputy District Attorney Steven Ipson said this afternoon.
The other charges on which Smith was acquitted involved another 7-year- old girl, a 10-year-old girl and an 11-year-old girl, according to Ipson.
Smith was an outside contractor who was hired in connection with an astronomy presentation at Washington Elementary School.
"Our simple argument was that he didn't commit any acts of molestation," Levine said.
Smith had been jailed on $600,000 bail, but his bail was reduced to $75,000 following the jury's verdict, according to his attorney.
