Former San Gabriel Mayor Huang gets a pass

Albert Y.M. Huang won’t be in criminal court anytime soon as prosecutors in the domestic violence unit declined to press battery and robbery charges

The main reason?
The alleged victim massage parlor owner Lu Chen is out of the country and won’t testify, officials said.
I have some questions.
Can somebody explain why San Gabriel PD didn’t interview her when the whole thing went down? Or get a statement on videotape?
Huang proclaimed his innocence in the case. One has to wonder what would have happened if he had not resigned as mayor?

If this doesn’t make you sick, it should.

A nine-year-old boy, playing with his friends, was shot in the legs Wednesday night by some cowards prowling an alleyway in Rowland Heights. Here’s Brian Day’s story from overnight:

ROWLAND HEIGHTS – A 9-year-old boy was shot and wounded in both legs as he played in a yard Wednesday night, authorities said.

Broad daylight shooting at Valinda playground gets Gloria Molina’s attention

A shooting Wednesday afternoon at Sunshine Park in Valinda caused Los Angeles County Supervisor Gloria Molina’s office to issue a statement assuring residents that the county is doing everything it can to combat violence in the Valinda corridor.

The shooting is one of several dozen in the neighborhood since March. Sheriff’s detectives note there is a drug/turf battle in the area, with several gangs taking part.
Here’s the latest story on Wednesday’s shooting and its aftermath.

EAST VALINDA – Deputies are looking for suspects who opened fire at three teens in a drive-by shooting Wednesday afternoon at a crowded park.

No one was injured in the shooting, which occurred about 3 p.m. at Sunshine Park, 515 S. Deepmead Ave.

Sheriff’s Lt. Hiroshi Yokoyama said three teens were walking in the area of the park when a black Nissan, possibly an Altima, drove by.

“The front passenger started shooting at them,” he said.

The teens, ages 16 to 17, fled. Yokoyama said the vehicle carried two to three men, and the shooter used a handgun.

Authorities said the park was full at the time, and the shooting prompted several people to call 9-1-1.

As a result of the incident, Los Angeles County Supervisor Gloria Molina said park programs have been canceled until further notice.

“We have worked very hard to create a safe, beautiful and user-friendly park,” Molina said in a statement.

“I am outraged at today’s act of violence at our park – a place our community considers a haven and where our children and families gather.”

Worker injured when thief takes truck with cherry picker

A thief drove off in a truck with an extended cherry picker, seriously injuring a worker fixing a cable line, police said.

Here’s the story as it’s running on-line:

PASADENA – A man attempted to steal a Charter Communications truck while a Charter employee was 30 feet above in the vehicle’s crane basket fixing a cable line, police said.

The Charter employee was hurled from the basket when the suspect drove away in the vehicle, police said. The basket hit a tree, severing the boom from the vehicle and launching the basket and its occupant to the ground, said Sgt. Pete Hettema.

The victim sustained massive injuries and is in serious condition, Hettema said.

The suspect initially approached another Charter employee who was on the ground during the cable repair project at about 2 a.m. Tuesday near Washington Boulevard and El Sereno Avenue, Hettema said. The suspect asked to use the man’s cell phone and soon after jumped into the truck’s cab and took off, Hettema said.

He drove about a block before striking the tree that flung the other charter employee to the street. He kept driving, severing a number of trees and cable lines before he was stopped by police nearly four blocks later, Hettema said.

Police are still investigating the incident and have not yet released the suspect’s name.

This from the overnight roundup:

EL MONTE – Two local men were arrested Saturday on suspicion after allegedly slitting a female taxi driver’s throat, robbing her and stealing her cab, authorities said.
David Herrera Siguenza, 19, and Carlos Carillo Ramirez, 25, both of El Monte, were booked on suspicion of attempted murder, carjacking and robbery, El Monte police Detective Ralph Batres said.
The incident occurred about 10:30 p.m. Friday when the woman, a 35-year-old El Monte resident, picked up the two men in the 11700 block of Emery Street in El Monte, Batres said.
