Chino Hills man accused of breaking into Pasadena pharmacy


PASADENA >> A Chino Hills man is accused of breaking into a Pasadena pharmacy and fleeing with prescription drugs earlier this week.
Police responded to a report of a “burglary in progress” about 6 a.m. Thursday at Michael’s Pharmacy, in the 900 block of East Green Street, Pasadena police Lt. John Mercado said.
“When we arrived, officers saw the suspect run from the location,” the lieutenant said. “They went into a short foot pursuit and caught the suspect.”
The suspect, identified as 21-year-old Joey Baldovinos of Chino Hills, was found to be in possession of prescription medication believed to have been stolen from the pharmacy, Mercado said. The type and amount of recovered drugs was not available.
Baldovinos was booked on suspicion of burglary.
According to Los Angeles County Superior Court and booking records, Baldovinos was convicted of previous burglaries in August of 2016, and again in September of 2016. He served eight months of a 16-month sentence and was released from custody with three years of formal probation supervision in March, records show.
Baldovinos was released from custody hours after Wednesday’s arrest pending his initial court appearance after posting $20,000 bail, records show.

Men sought in counter-hopping cough syrup theft at Arcadia pharmacy

ARCADIA >> Police are seeking two men who hopped a pharmacy counter to steal bottles of codeine-laden cough syrup last week.
The crime took place about 9:30 p.m. on May 25 at CVS Pharmacy, 1401 S. Baldwin Ave., Arcadia police Lt. Roy Nakamura said in a written statement.
“As one suspect distracted a pharmacist with a ‘consultation,’ the second suspect jumped the pharmacy counter and moved directly to a supply of bottled promethazine (with) codeine cough syrup,” Nakamura said. “He grabbed a number of bottles and placed them in a brown bag. Both suspects then ran out of the store through an emergency exit.”
No getaway car was seen.
Police released store surveillance camera images of the thieves Thursday in hopes of generating leads.
Both suspects were described as white or Latino men between 20 and 30 years old. One stood 5 feet 7 inches tall and weighed about 130 pounds, while the other was about 6 feet tall and 160 pounds.
