Teen accused of robbing woman of cell phone in Pasadena


PASADENA >> Police arrested a teenage boy Wednesday afternoon on suspicion of robbing a woman of her cell phone on a Pasadena sidewalk, officials said.
The strong-arm robbery unfolded about 12:20 p.m. as the victim, a 36-year-old woman, was standing in the 600 block of Mar Vista Avenue when a group of four young men passed by, Pasadena police Lt. Mark Goodman said. As the group passed her by, one of them grabbed the woman’s Samsung Galaxy cell phone from her hand.
The group ran to nearby McDonald Park, where police soon found them, Goodman said.
The suspect was found to still be in possession of the victim’s cellular telephone, and was positively IDd by the victim,” the lieutenant said.
The 17-year-old Los Angeles boy was booked on suspicion of robbery and taken to a juvenile hall, Goodman said.

Man with horn tattoos robs West Whittier market


WEST WHITTIER >> A man with horn tattoos on his head and neck used a knife to hold up the clerk Saturday at a market in the unincorporated county area of West Whittier, authorities said.
The robber walked into the Pisco Sour Market, 10424 Whittier Blvd., about 11:10 a.m. and asked to buy some cigarettes, Los Angeles County sheriff’s Sgt. Wilson Wong said.
When the clerk turned back around after retrieving the cigarettes, the customer was pointing a knife at him and demanded money, the sergeant said.
The clerk handed over an unknown amount of cash, he said. The robber also fled with cigarettes and beer.
Deputies described the robber as a Latino man of unknown age, about 5 feet 8 to 5 feet 9 inches tall, of thin build, with horn tattoos on his head and neck. He wore a black jacket and gray shorts.
Detectives from the sheriff’s Pico Rivera Station are investigating the crime.

Good Samaritan helps police chase down robbery suspect in San Marino


SAN MARINO >> Police, aided by a good Samaritan, arrested a man they say robbed an elderly woman of her cell phone on a bus Wednesday afternoon.
Officers jailed Kenneth Raymond Collins, 18, of Los Angeles on suspicion of robbery following the alleged heist, which unfolded about 4:45 p.m. at Huntington Drive and San Gabriel Boulevard, San Marino police Sgt. Tim Tebbetts said in a written statement.
As Collins was exiting a Metro bus, he grabbed a cell phone from an elderly woman also riding the bus, police said. He ran down an alley and headed west on Huntington Drive.
“A Good Samaritan saw Collins flee from the bus, followed by the elderly lady who was yelling for help,” Tebbetts said. “The Good Samaritan followed Collins in his vehicle on Huntington Drive, then chased Collins on foot until officers arrived.”
Police found Collins hiding in a residential backyard along Van Dyke Road and took him into custody without a struggle, officials said.
He was being held in lieu of $100,000 bail pending his initial court appearance, scheduled Friday in Alhambra Superior Court.
No further details were available Thursday.

Downey man accused of robbing woman with toddler in Alhambra

ALHAMBRA >> Police arrested a Downey man Wednesday after he robbed a woman while she was with her toddler outside an Alhambra market, authorities said.
Gabriel Jesse Acuna, 25, is accused of armed robbery following the 2 p.m. crime, Alhambra police Sgt. Jerry Johnson said.
He approached a woman in her 30s from behind as she was placing her 2-year-old child into her car outside a market a market at Valley Boulevard and 9th Street, Johnson said.
The suspect — later identified as Acuna — brandished what appeared to be a handgun and demanded the woman’s property, the sergeant said. She turned over her purse, and the robber ran off.
A Monterey Park police officer who happened to be in the area spotted the suspect running through the parking lot with the purse, police said.
The Monterey Park officer detained the fleeing suspect without a struggle until Alhambra police arrived to take custody of the alleged robber. Officers recovered the woman’s purse, as well as a realistic-looking airsoft pistol, designed to shoot plastic BBs.
Acuna was taken to a hospital following his arrest after he complained of a pre-existing medical condition, Johnson said.
He was being held in lieu of $100,000 bail pending his arraignment hearing, scheduled Friday in Alhambra Superior Court, records show.

Man shocked with stun gun, beaten during Rosemead robbery


ROSEMEAD >> Two attackers beat up a man and shocked him with a stun gun or Taser while robbing him of his cell phone Wednesday afternoon, officials said.
The crime took place about 3:40 p.m. in the 7500 block of Garvey Avenue, near Prosect Avenue, Los Angeles County sheriff’s Lt. Ignacio Somoano said.
Two attackers approached the man in a parking lot and began beating him up, the lieutenant said. The assault included in a shock from a stun gun or Taser.
The robbers stole the man’s iPhone and ran away, he said. The victim declined to be taken to a hospital.
A detailed suspect description was not available.

Gunman sought in Whittier storage business robbery

WHITTIER >> Police released a surveillance camera image Wednesday of a gunman who robbed a Whittier business earlier this month in hopes of generating tips from the public.
The crime unfolded about 5:15 p.m. on Jan. 7 at a self storage facility in the 12300 block of Whittier Boulevard, just north of Washington Boulevard, Whittier police Officer John Scoggins said.
(The robber) inquired about a space before pointing a gun at the employee and committing a robbery at the location,” police said in a written statement. He fled with an unknown amount of cash.
Police described the gunman as a black man, about 130 pounds and 5 feet 5 inches tall. He wore a black jacket, a white hood, blue jeans and a dark-colored baseball cap during the heist.

Man robbed at gunpoint at Hacienda Heights has station


HACIENDA HEIGHTS >> Deputies are seeking two men who robbed a gas station patron as he sat in his car late Saturday.
The crime took place about 10:50 p.m. at an ARCO station at Colima Road and Azusa Avenue, Los Angeles County sheriff’s Sgt. Desiree Campuzano said.
A man in his 20s was sitting in his car when two robbers approached, she said. One of them was armed with a black, semi-automatic pistol.
The bandits demanded the victim’s property, fleeing with ah gold watch, a gold ring, a bracelet, two cell phones, a wallet and about $200 in cash, the sergeant said.
A detailed suspect description was not available Sunday as investigators continued pursuing leads in the case.

Armed man robs 13-year-old boy of ‘hoverboard’ scooter in Pasadena


PASADENA >> A man threatened a 13-year-old boy with a handgun and robbed him of his “hoverboard” electric scooter at a Pasadena intersection Friday night, police said.
The crime took place about 8 p.m. as the young victim was standing at Washington Boulevard and Raymond Avenue, Pasadena police Lt. John Mercado said.
The robber approached the boy, lifted his sweatshirt to display a handgun tucked into his waistband and demanded the boy turn over his green, self-balancing, two-wheeled scooter, the lieutenant said. The frightened boy complied and ran home.
Police described the robber as a Latino man between 20 and 25 years old, 5 feet 10 inches tall, of medium build and medium complexion. He was clean-shaven and wore a black baseball cap, blue jeans and a sweatshirt.

Man on bike sought in South Whittier liquor store robbery


SOUTH WHITTIER >> A gunman on a bicycle robbed a South Whittier liquor store Thursday night, authorities said.
The crime took place just before 8:50 p.m. at Jug Liquor, on Telegraph Road, just east of Colima Road in the unincorporated county area, Los Angeles County sheriff’s Lt. Shawn Kehoe said.
The robber brandished a handgun as he demanded cash, the lieutenant said. He fled with an unknown amount.
He robber was last seen riding his bicycle east on Telegraph Road, officials said. A detailed description was not available.

Four suspects in Pico Rivera pharmacy robbery arrested after chase

PICO RIVERA >> Deputies arrested four suspect in an armed robbery at a Pico Rivera pharmacy following a pursuit and crash Wednesday, officials said.
Authorities firs received a silent alarm notification about 11:40 a.m. from a pharmacy in the 9200 block of Whittier Boulevard, Los Angeles County sheriff’s Lt. Alex Villanueva said. Robbers had held up the business at gunpoint, stealing painkillers such as codeine.
Deputies soon found the suspects’ getaway car heading south on the 605 Freeway, Villanueva said.
“Deputies tried to initiate a traffic stop, but the vehicle continued to drive away and a pursuit was initiated,” the lieutenant said.
Deputies chased the sedan as it exited the freeway and ultimately crashed in a utility pole at Telegraph Road and Rosemead Boulevard, he said.
Several suspects ran from the car, but all four were captured nearby, Villanueva said.
Deputies recovered two handguns and a backpack full of items, including drugs believed to have been stolen in the robbery, he said.
The suspects were described as three men and juvenile boy. Some were treated at a hospital for apparently minor injuries suffered in the crash before booking.
The names of the adult suspects were not available Wednesday.
