Gunman sought in Pico Rivera 7-Eleven robbery

PICO RIVERA >> A gunman escaped with cash and lottery tickets after robbing a Slauson Avenue convenience store Wednesday afternoon, authorities said.
The heist took place about 3:52 p.m. at 7-Eleven, at Slauson Avenue and Passons Boulevard, Los Angeles County sheriff’s Lt. Alex Villanueava said.
Two clerks were working when the robber entered the store, brandished a semi-automatic handgun and demanded money, the lieutenant said.
He obtained money from two registers, as well as lottery scratcher tickets, before fleeing, Villanueva said.
The robber was last seen getting driving away in a black vehicle, he said.
Deputies described the robber as a Latino man between 30 and 35 years old, short and heavyset, wearing a green long-sleeved T-shirt, black pants, a green Army-style hat and sunglasses.

Two dead in Rosemead — murder/suicide

A man and a woman were found shot and killed in Rosemead on Wednesday. Police are not looking for a suspect.

Authorities responded to the 2600 block of Earle Avenue just after midnight and found a male and a female, both in their 20s, shot in the head. The female victim was declared dead at the scene. The male victim was taken to a local hospital, where he later died.

According to authorities, the couple dated and broke up a few months ago, but they still kept the lines of communication open. The young woman came to the home on Tuesday to pick up the man to go out for the day, and when they returned, things seemed fine.

Crime’s down … just not around here

Call this a round-up of sorts…

Sheriff Lee Baca says crime is down county-wide, except near Industry where homicides are up.
Here’s a snippet:
Despite the mostly good news, there remain problems in some areas patrolled by the Sheriff’s Department. Most notably in the communities serviced by the Industry Station, violent crime is on the rise.

Moving on… Women have been targeted by robbers in Azusa and Baldwin Park.

Authorities said the same car was used in a robbery of an ice cream vendor in West Valinda and a 16-year-old boy in Rosemead on Monday.

The notorious Avenues gang gets hit again in a federal raid.

Pico Rivera’s fifth homicide is a whodunnit …just like the other four this year.

And, finally DNA catches a man suspected of raping a blind Norwalk woman in May. Here’s how he was caught:

DNA led to the arrest of a suspect in the May 1 rape of an 82-year-old legally blind woman, authorities said Monday.

Antonio Durell Freeman, 31, of Norwalk was booked Friday on suspicion of rape, kidnapping and burglary. He is being held at the sheriff’s Century Station in lieu of $1 million bail. He has a court appearance today at Bellflower Superior Court.

Freeman appeared in the DNA database after Long Beach Police arrested him July 11 on suspicion of spousal assault and took a DNA sample from him, according to Maxwell.

Back from Spring Break

Looks like crime in the Valley soared over Easter Week. Shootings in La Puente, Rosemead and a guy in West Covina beat and sliced up his wife, according to the cops.

Ladies getting ready for Easter even had to be careful in a Rowland Heights nail salon.
Oh, and apparently Centinelhas returned to the Foothill Cities Blog.
Such is life in the SGV. I wouldn’t trade it for any thing else though.
