Damien vs. Diamond Ranch, Sept. 10 … mark it down …

That’s right, Roddy and Gano will be back on the same field again. If memory serves me correct, that’s good times for all. The two teams agreed to play each other a couple weeks ago, so some of you probably already know this. But hey, I wasn’t here a couple weeks ago.

This from Roddy Layton: It’s funny because Gano and I had this rivalry going. We never lost to them when he was at Los Altos and it seemed like something always happened, so it’s kind of surprising to play them (Damien). Damien was looking for a home game, but I’m sure Greg (Gano) wants to kick my butt so he agreed to make it an away game for them.

More Roddy on Gano: Having been to two championship games, I know how hard it is just to get there. I sit back and say Greg Gano has won four CIF championships. He’s one of the legendary coaches in the SGV. I’m still trying to make a name for myself and his ink is already dry.

Roddy on (finally) playing Diamond Bar: They have to play us now. To me, it’s a natural rivalry. Is it our strongest competitor? No. But it’s like when you’re in Little League and you play your friends, they always play better. You have all these kids growing up in the same city together and they never played? It didn’t make any sense. It’s going to be fun.

Roddy on Amat: What other school in the Valley is going to host Mater Dei, host all those people and beat them? To me, they’re the No. 1 team in the Valley because they play tough teams week after week. (Aram’s note: Roddy hasn’t seen this year’s Amat schedule, but point taken).

Roddy on not being in Charter Oak’s division next season: I don’t want to win a CIF championship and have everyone saying “That’s weak, look who you’re playing. And I know all the Charter Oak people will be saying “You never beat us.” We may stay in the Southeast. That’s what everyone is saying, but it’s still not a guarantee that we get to the championship or win the championship. It’s still going to be tough. I told my coaches we have two years to go get a championship, then we can go back and compete with Bishop Amat and Charter Oak because those are the top two teams now.
