Amat ’10 sked: The Lancers will shine in September

I hear angels singing. I see blinking lights. I see seas parting. I see images of Scott Fields running down the sideline in my head. Oh yes, it’s that time. Here’s your 2010 Lancer schedule. Print it and stick it on your fridge.

Sept. 3 vs. Garfield @ELAC
Sept. 10 at Dominguez
Sept. 17 Muir
Sept. 24 Damien
Oct. 1 at Cathedral
Oct. 8 Venice
Oct. 15 Crespi
Oct. 22 vs. Loyola at LA Valley College
Oct. 29 Notre Dame
Nov. 5 BYE
Nov. 12 at Alemany

Aram’s take:
This is the most anticipated season in Amat history since last season. So many of you are probably wondering where’s the beef in the first six games. It’s not the most jarring nonleague schedule you’ll see for a big-time program, but at least the Lancers should be 6-0 heading into league. And if they are, wow, the excitement will be incredible when Crespi rolls into Kiefer. Word is Robledo’s doing what he can to land season tickets. Word also is that Amat had trouble finding games and getting certain dates to jive. If that’s the case, then I have to wonder why not start looking to the I.E. for some nonleague games? There are many people who feel the Inland Division (yes, the one Charter Oak will likely end up in) is just as good as Division 1 (Pac-5). So why not try for one or two showdowns against, say, Redlands East Valley or Norco? Or maybe even Upland or Chino Hills. Amat’s scrimmage is against Upland, so that will have to do. Just a thought. Maybe Coach Hagerty is doing all you Amat honks a favor and sparing you a trip an hour into the 909. But just remember there’s an entire Empire that thinks it can hang with D-1.

  • really

Do you really think Cathedral will be able to support a crowd from Amat? Better rent a lot of stands folks.

  • http://G-Amat G-Amat

Question.. didn’t Amat play ND at home last year..and if so they have them at home again? That dosen’t sound right or Mr. Aram’s had a “type o” Please correct me if I’m wrong somebody!!!!!

  • Baseball NUT!

    WOW!
Being a AMAT grad ( a old one, YET not as old as Joe,lol.)I lost to Servite, when they won it ALL, thats how old I am!
I am dissapointed by the lack of competition. Can we say WEAK! A record of at least 9-1 heading to CIF is a MUST. We go to the city for Garfield, and Cathedral, INSTEAD of TAFT, OR CRENSHAW~ We go get OLD rivals like Dominguez, & Muir, instead of Mater Dei, or Orange LU. We get a Damien who is on the up, but its NO closer to the I.E, than San Dimas. Go after Upland instead of just a scrimmage, OR get Rancho again. Not one BIG VIII school, even the new ones. Of course I will follow them and attend 2-3 games as usual, and a CIF game BUT this is very sad! This schedule IS NOT preparing them for CIF, and the PRIZE!!!!!

  • SGV FOOTBALL

    Coach Hagerty,

Congrats on putting a decent schedule together this year, its not the toughest but with the limited time you had and the addition to your league you did a good job.

I agree with Aram 6-0 right before league starts.

    CEEE-OOHHHHH

  • BAHS

Amat fans should NOT be so “Disappointed” at “the lack of competition” (your words, not mine) because as true Amat fans know, everyone of these so called “weak” teams are going to brining everything they got to those games come Friday night. Respect all, Fear none. And as far as the I.E. goes, the schools that were approached “where already engaged” for our open dates, others were just not intrested and others had schedule conflicts that just didn’t work out for them. Both Upland, Rancho and Los Osos have the number to Bishop Amat and believe me, the phone in the Amat A.D.’s office was not ringing off the hook with I.E. teams looking for games. Let’s just take it for what it is and play the best season we can. Even if We, Amat enters league 6-0, the regular season can change in a hurry especially with the level of competition that we face in league. Go Lancers!

  • The Stang Fan

I just have a feeling that losing to Amat, as some top-notch programs have in the past two years, isn’t as sexy as losing to some of the other schools. Therefore, come scheduling time schools are avoiding the Lancers. Not BA’s fault at all.

BUT, has anyone taking a gander at Servite’s schedule for the upcoming season?!?! Whoa…

    http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/varsitytimesinsider/2010/03/football-servite-is-headed-to-new-orleans.html

  • Joe Amat

First, it is unfortunate that CIF broke all logic and precedent by moving St Bonnies into the Maramonte League, creating a TEN team league and giving schools only ONE non-league game. It would have been fun to travel and give Bonnies a chance to avenge last years loss. That might have woken Freddie up a bit and prevented him from “yawning”.

Fortunately, it says something about the direction of the program that some might say this is a boring schedule – when those same people would be saying it would be a big stretch for any other valley school and applauding them for challenging themselves. Again… perspective.

Here’s some info and my take on each non league game

    Sept. 3 vs. Garfield @ELAC
Historic program. Great venue. Good crowd. Fearless squad. Smart Week Zero opener
    Sept. 10 at Dominguez
CIF Semifinalist. Respected outside the Fish-Bowl. Athletic Moore League-ish team.
    Sept. 17 Muir
Reviving an important rivalry. Lost to All-World,2-time CIF Juggernauts Charter Oak by a point on last play of the game. No one was yawning then. And they’re better this year
    Sept. 24 Damien
Local Catholic matchup. Amat’s closest competition to the east. Should happen every year regardless.
    Oct. 1 at Cathedral
Another Catholic matchup to our West. CIF Finalists.11-2. Lost to Oaks Christian in Finals. In Amat’s league in other sports – making this another natural
    Oct. 8 Venice
A Top City power on an annual basis. 10-2 last year and will play anyone. Get’s Amat back to a traditional City matchup like the old Carson contests in the past.

And then you have league play in the 3rd toughest league in the NATION (that only got stronger w/addition of CIF Finalist Alemany) last year to defend the 2009 SERRA LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIP.
    Oct. 15 Crespi
Oct. 22 vs. Loyola at LA Valley College
    Oct. 29 Notre Dame
    Nov. 5 BYE
    Nov. 12 at Alemany

In a perfect world we’d find a way to add St Paul to the mix – another one that should happen annually. But they’re not up to it now. Maybe soon. I’d like to face St Francis on a semi-regular basis and Aram is right, a venture into Chino Hills or Colony would be strategically effective (Uplands not going to happen for obvious reasons) and going back to Rancho/Los Osos makes some sense too. Traveling any further east doesn’t make as much sense. Schedules at private schools can be put together to satisfy a number of needs and being able to play quality games within an area in which we typically draw some students is a great way to promote the school.

  • Baseball NUT!

NOW there is a football schedule (SERVITE) to be amazed at!

FOUR CHAMPIONS—- CHAPARRAL, OCEANSIDE, LA HABRA, AND CURTIS from New Orleans. AS well as Edison who was the DIV 1 loser to Servite in the Final, + LEAGUE w/ Orange LU,and Mater Dei. WOW

Strange, how AMAT finalized Garfield in week ONE a little over 5 weeks ago,and Servite inked their’s yesterday. Are SERVITE & AMAT avoiding each other? Surley that week ONE matchup COULD have happened.

  • INJURY

I really wonder with Servite’s schedule, whether that is such a smart thing to do? I imagine the risk of injury is going to be a lot greater. How much of a pounding can they really take until something breaks and you’re not full strenght for the playoffs?

  • Friar

I know for a fact Amat was contacted and they declined to play. Hagerty is making a mockery of the schedule at Amat! He has excuses for everything. I guarantee Amat will barely make playoffs and be 1 and done.

  • BIG FAN

@ baseball nuts – Amat plays Garfield week 0 – not week 1. Those in the know have said that Amat made many attempts to schedule many other quality teams. What can Amat do when teams say ” Thanks for the offer, but NO Thank you “. Teams like Los Osos, WC, St Paul, and D Ranch all said ” No Mas, Gracias “. And so, you play those that step up to the challenge. Cathedral, Muir, Venice, Garfield all stepped up to the challenge. Joe Amat is correct: These are not cream puff teams by any means. They are not St. Bonnie or OLU , but they are all proven quality programs and we all know that when they get their shot at Amat…. We will see their very best for 4 quarters. So in the end, All of the teams that stepped up to the challenge with benefit from their experience of playing Amat
(ex. D’Ranch) and Amat will stay focused on the greater picture in preparation for league play.

“Mighty are the Men who wear the Blue & Gold”

  • Joe Amat

    Baseball NUT,

You are getting old if you played with Tanner. And yes, that might make me ancient. I’m not going to speak for Coach Hagarty this time, but I personally don’t like pre-league matchups with other quality Pac5 teams. It sets up playoff rematches that are tough to manage no matter what side of the score you end up on. (as in our matchup w/ Serviite in the Finals. You can talk about that on here sometime and it would be good addition) Notice Edison is Servite’s only Pac5 game in the preseason.

As I mentioned private schools need to make their schedules with a purpose. Servite for Servite to schedule schools around them locally won;t help. Many of those kids will go to Mater Dei. No offense to any readers here, but Orange County families are a little more saavy when it comes to football knowledge, They aren’t intoxicated by a La Habra or La Mirada championship… the St Margarets folks make no claim to superiority. They understand where the big dogs are… in the Pac5 leagues. No one is going to Trabuco Hills or Garden Grove just because they made the final instead of Mater Dei or OLu who lost early.

What Servite does then is make a bigger splash – and they need to do that outside of their region. Amat needs to win our area to attract students, because in the Fish Bowl that is the SGV many don’t understand the difference between winning a D7 or D9 championship and competing in the Pac5. So in the SGV they *think* somehow if you win it all that makes you “better”. For that reason Amat needs to schedule more strategically/locally to win the region in a head-to-head fashion.

    It’s just good business.

  • AMAT 73

    Baseball Nut,
Our week one game with Dominguez was inked before last season so the opening for Servite was not there. Check our past record against Servite and you can clearly see we have come out on top more than bottom. You should know that being an old LANCER.

  • Joseph Amat is a Dangerous Man

Joseph you can be quite the irritant. The mind can only handle so much. Rather cruel to actually check the records of your opponents and to delve into the cultural mindset of each program. The average “joe” only has the attention span of a traffic signal and here you purposefully analyze the Amat schedule. You are criminal in the application of facts and information. Criminal indeed.

Joseph I wondered if your criminal mind caught the Fred Robledo Chicken Little Show. Seems the same schools who, in Fred’s mind are comparable to the Lancers and undeniable Top Ten “peers”, have been unjustly placed in Big Boy Waters. Fred entertains and promotes annual discourse to assert Bishop Amat is no longer the only Big Fish in “their” Fish Bowl world.

The past few days have been entertaining or disgusting depending on your point of view. The same bloggers who Admonish Amat for weak schedules, lack of Championships and futile efforts to cling to “elite” status took a collective gulp of Oopperade.

  • BigDog

    Fred
Has BA given any thought to playing a game out of state and see how they would fair against different competition. Maybe going to Texas or Florida could help there program get back on track and give them some bigger credibility with OC schools. It would be better then playing Garfield.

  • AMAT 73

    bigdog,
Other than beating MD and O Lu the past 2 season I guess you’re right we have no credibility in the OC.

  • Don

    Joe,

Great capsule view; I agree 100% that something needs to happen to make St. Paul part of the mix.

If I had my druthers, youd also hook a contest up with one or two of the powers out east. Id gladly pay to see the Lancers play REV or Chaparral. Tom Leach hasnt been completely forgotten out here.

  • Baseball NUT!

    Guys,
Don’t get me wrong, HAGS has it set up perfectly for a title run. My only concern was that We have been traditionally strong since the Haden to McKay days of 69-70. I want to see AMAT play that Servite schedule thats all.

    Joe,
I remember Randy very well, but I also remember Berulein (sp) at Servite, as well as Russel White at Crespi. Those were the good ole days.

    AMAT 73,
I do remember the blastings we gave Servite, as well as Alemany, and Pius X, and others. Walking from the dark part of the gym to the stadium still brings back memories.
I suppose you remember boys on one side of the school and girls on other at Amat huh?. Before I moved to DB w/parents we lived across from Torch. I remember walking as a kid from football, baseball and hoop practice from Lil Basset to home. I remember stopping and watching my first “R” rated movie on my way home at the Vineland. I was late getting home, got into trouble but it was worth it! LOL..Hey I was 9 or 10!Back then ALL I cared about was SPORTS, the TV shows Emergency, & The Rookies, and waiting for the Helms bakery man to come down my street so I can buy a jelly doughnut. THOSE were the days!

  • AMAT 73

    Baseball NUT,
Yes I remember those days vividly. Sr. Julie, girls dean at the time and who I am sure you remember painted a line in the middle of the courtyard behind the chapel . In the mornings the boys would be on one side and the girls on the other talking to each other as a joke . Well after the weekend we came to school Monday and someone had made a huge peace symbol out of the line . It was the joke for the rest of the year. I was in one of the first co-ed classes at AMAT . 4 guys and 21 girls. Talk about a great class. Ah the Vineland , one screen back then, but the better deal was the Edgewood at 2 bucks a car load . That place was party city on the weekends.

  • Baseball NUT!

    AMAT 73,
    WOW Sr Julie, Yikes!!!
The Edgewood, oh yes! Saw Jaws there in 75/76 and NEVER wanted to get in the water again. Long before Kaiser, UPS, and COKE, It was the Burrough’s CO. I lived just on the other side of the tracks on Orange Blossom.
As a kid, I used to get my haircut behind Smith’s Food King, ate at Pioneer Chicken, and back then we didn’t have much $$$, so it was a treat for my dad to take us to the Thrifty’s coffee shop. I have busted m A** to go from A 19 yr old who once had his electric disconected to a small business owner to a nice home in Via Verde in San Dimas. BUT as a kid we never had much, BUT we NEVER had problems either and I sometimes STILL wish I had the simple life with NO worries as a kid.
    ThanX for the memories!

  • ….

Big dog: Let me explain something to you about private schools real quick. There are two types of private schools: archdiocesan and independent private schools. Amat is the former, the oc schools you are talking of (as well as damien) are the latter. Basically what that means is that these oc schools can do whatever they want with the money they take in, such as fund trips to play out of state schools. This will never happen at amat because they do not get to decide how to spend the money that is brought into the school: everything must be approved by the archdiocese. And I can tell you right now, the cardinal is not going to allow money to go to one football team taking an out of state trip when he has multiple other schools that can use it for new books, clean up projects, etc…

g-amat: the reason that the notre dame game will be at amat again is because alemany was added to the league and amat played alemany, notre dame and loyola at home last year, someone had to be odd man out…i thought it would have been alemany though since they’re the new kid in town

  • Joe Amat

    Dangerous,

    THAT was entertaining! Thanks

  • SGVsBEST

    Yeah Big dog!

The church has no money for Amat to travel because its been paying for that thing…wink…wink…from back in the 90s! Remember? You member!!!
    .
Oh, and don’t forget the $300mil church in downtown L.A.
    .
Yeah, that explains why Amat is playing Garfield, F.I.D.M., and the other powerhouses in September!
    .
The OC privates don’t have that 800 pound Gorilla on their backs!
    .

  • AmnotAChampioinSince1995

“I don’t know if we can win at that (Pac-5) level, or when we can get to the top again…” Hags quoted by Fred J back in January.

The more things change, the more the stay the same. LMAO! Did you guys look at that picture Fred has on his blog? There can’t be 6 footer in that line-up. Which brings me to your schedule:

    Oct. 1 at Cathedral
    Oct. 8 Venice
    Oct. 15 Crespi
Oct. 22 vs. Loyola at LA Valley College
    Oct. 29 Notre Dame

  • NUT UP TIME

Amont 19whatever just so you know. When Bishop Amat plays any one…regardless of how big, bad and strong they are the “other” team recognizes Amat like you recognize the “A” sticker on windows all over So Cal. When SGV teams play outside The Fish Bowl you get comments like the ones from Bogan, Gano and Farrar, “it’s a double whammy”. They are right. The players are scared and the coaches aren’t too far behind.
Now you make the comment, “there isn’t a six footer anywhere” which makes comments like Bogans (with all his Guru D1 watch list guys) and Farrar (with all his D1 signees) and Gano (with his Championship staff) look odd.

“It’s not the size of the dog in the fight but the size of the heart in the dog”…thought you knew.

What CIF has essentially said to CO, SH and DHS is “Nut up!” All those schools have talent, resources, coaching and endless amount of players so what’s the problem? Lost allot of respect for all three coaches if the comments were really theirs.

It will be funny to read BA basher comments when if local teams petition CIF.

So all the talk about CO and SH nipping at BA’s heels was just that…”ALL TALK” !

  • Baseball NUT!

Before I say something let me explain about me. I am a BIG follower of AMAT football ( played very early 80′s), and a South HIlls baseball follower ( son played there, now plays college) BUT I follow MOST ALL SGV baseball teams.

ALL this bashing about AMAT football, and others is unreal.

    1. YES AMAT has NO rings since 95
    2. YES AMAT has open boundries for kids to come from anywhere. I lived about a mile from AMAT as a kid, moved to DB, and still went to AMAT. Is it fair, PROBABLY NOT, but it also wasn’t FREE either!

It seems like MOST of the complaining are either coming from KIDS who went to school, OR are in school , or adults FROM places where they SELDOM see the playoffs.

I see ALL this trash talk about Bogan, Farrar, and Gano, about this or that, BUT as I look at the clippings , these guys brought THEIR respected schools THIRTEEN CIF CHAMPIONSHIPS. Outside of West Covina, beating SH on 2004, and San Dimas this past season NOBODY has one from a public school in our area since Northview in 87. THATS ALMOST 25 YEARS. ( maybe thier is another, cant think this early)

Bishop has had a few OFF years by THEIR standards, but truthfully 90% of the SGV schools would be HAPPY with a 9-3, 7-3, or 8-4 records. TO the LANNCERS and their faithful, ITS a dissapointment. I have season tickets to USC football. I thought the world ended when the Trojans lost FOUR games, this past seson.

I hear cheating, coming from people regarding these coaches, and schools. You know coach Gano was a assistant under Bogan, @ SH? The coach at Glendora is a SH grad. They must be doing something correct. Wonder why the BIG time players come BACK to AMAT to coach? They know winners. I saw the post where someone said “Look at the photo of Amat, NOT one kid Over 6′ft) Yea and that team went 10-2 with midgets. Its called heart, disipline, with a few kids with OUTSTANDING talent. If I lived in Montclair, and my kid was a stud, WHY wouldn’t I want him to to to a top not program. I wold do my best to get him at AMAT, or any other winning program.

Moving up to DIV II for these coaches mentioned, will take a little getting used too. YES they will be out of their comfort zone, BUT I GUARANTEE you, they will suceed. I saw where South Hills played La Habra for 4 years. ALL I hear was how La Habra kicked their butts. But actually SH WON the FIRST game in 2004. La Habra is a big area and has good kids, AND THREE straight CIF titles. The Huskies beat Rancho, where AMAT couldnt, and Charter Oak manged a tie. They lost to Tesoro, twice, and the first year Tesoro, was in the DIV I final vs LB POLY.
I see AMAT who had 5-6 down years, YET, they schedule ORANGE LU, Mater Dei, Valencia, Hart and so on. They wanted to get better, and they took their lumps, but now look at em. Back to the old tradition of a DIV I power.
Its time to stop hating, and give these schools a little credit, whether you like em or NOT!

DON’T HATE SUCCESS, BE A SUCCESS. ( KIND OF LIKE PEOPLE WANTING THE RICH TO SHARE THEIR WEALTH) Where was EVERYONE, when the “RICH” guy was busting his a** for years to become where he is today? NOW that he has success, people WANT some OF of his pie. People do YOU OWN BAKING!

    Have a good day everyone!

  • Lancer Land

I thought sgvsbust was blocked from this blog. I guess tire boy must be posting from the public library or something.

  • BAHS

Baseball nut – Aaahhh, I don’t remember Amat ever losing to Rancho? Are you talking baseball? Surely you’re not talking football? If I am wrong, please enlighten me. The only I.E. team that has a leg up on Amat via scoreboard is Los Osos 2-0?

  • Aaron

Just a dig Baseball Nut, but Bonita went 14-0 in 1999. That was a magical season…what’s funny is I was a little kid then and we’ve been hurting a little since then. But I keep the faith knowing the kind of man that is leading the program.

Also good luck to your Lancers.

  • Baseball NUT!

    BAHS,

YES you are correct The Grizzlies from Los Osos, IN RANCHO! I knew it was EARLY when I typed this!~

  • Baseball NUT!

    Aaron,
I stand corrected! Ah yes 1999 Bonita with was it “Tank” Williams. I swear that kid lookd 23 in HS. TOO bad his life was cut short in a shooting. Man he was VERY GOOD!

  • just sayin’

I’m guessing this years over-the-hill, living-in-the-past, under 6 footers from the barrio will face this years schedule the same way last years 10-2 SERRA LEAGUE CHAMPION Lancers went about their work after the predictions of 0-10, 3-7, 5-5, cellar of teh Serra, out-of-the playoffs, one-and-done. By working to prove all the classless, ignorant, racist, know-nothings absolutely wrong.

The same way we have done the past 2 years fool. Strap it up and take it to the opponent . In case your dumb ass didn’t notice we went 10-2 last year and are defending Serra League champions . What are you besides some pathetic little wart on sgvsworst’s ass. You must two be related because you both come off as idiots.

Same way they won every game last year, strong defense and a solid running game. Jay Anderson may be a baseball player but he is a heck of a player at RB. And no I’m not an Amat fan.

  • Joe Amat

The Lancers will face every season just as the did the last two. Questions abounded when Hags stepped in and there was no QB. Enter the baseball player Jerry Mac at QB. Question answered. Graduation losses added questions to the 2nd year. Let’s remember some quotes entering last year.

“With the departures of so many talented players and the unforgiving schedule, this could be the Lancers’ highest ranking of the season. Face it, coach Steve Hagerty over-achieved in his first season, leading the Lancers to the playoffs and a near monumental first-round upset over Long Beach Poly before falling in the final minutes. Gone are defensive gems Sheldon Price, Brent Seals, Isaiah Bowens and running back Deshawn Gaisie.” – Fred Robledo

“I’ve had a chance to see Bishop Amat plenty through the summer and here’s the deal…their is not a win to be found in the league schedule with the talent that Amat is fielding. SO Notre Dame is just as good this year as they were last year (and we all know BA fans how that went last year). Crespi has one of their best teams in years and Loyola is absolutely stacked this year. And when you fact in that St. Bonaventure could have a team that is better than last year’s squad; the wins become hard to find on the schedule for the talent that BA is fielding this year. We mentioned it back in the winter and it bears repeating; if BA gets four wins this year, Steve Hagerty should get Coach of the Year.” – The Scouting Guru
“”We’ll have to answer that challenge, what more is there to say,” Hagerty said. “We know that you can’t expect to beat teams (in a shootout) week in and week out. You might get away with that once or twice, but not over the course of a season. So, a lot of guys have to step up and assume that responsibility. A lot of times it’s just effort, confidence and belief. Regardless of who we lost (on defense), I always think we can get better.”” – Steve Hagerty

“That’s a lot of confidence for a coach that loses defensive standouts Sheldon Price, Isaiah Bowens, Brent Seals, running back Deshawn Gaisie and depth on both sides of the ball.’-Fred Robledo

I think they answered that challenge with a SERRA LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIP. That’s all you can do every year. Sort of like Charter Oak losing all of their firepower and moving up in leagues and divisions. You just move forward and prepare each an d every day as best you can.

Good luck to all as they replace their losses with furture stars.

First of all, great post Joe…

    Second of all…

Wow, this is getting very interesting in here eh.

Well, to tell you the truth, I haven’t really posted too much in this forum, but I do check in every now and then.

Maybe when football season rolls around, i’ll throw in one or more of my “contriversial posts” at you guys and see where it goes eh ?

Anyway, to say that i’m SGV worst ?? Come on people !! Thats a bit much even for my fan club, and maybe, just maybe, i’m even a bit offended by that remark there.

Now don’t get me wrong, i’ll tell it like it is to you clowns, and if it hurts your feelings, then soooo sorry.

But again, that guy is so far out in left field that it’s sort of funny that you crazys (my fan club) are starting to get really worked up in here over this dude.

Just ignor the idiot if he’s getting on your nerves. Let him look as stupid as he is. It isn’t hard you know. Yes, you can do it people….

    SVG Worst…wow, tooooo Funny !!!!!!

  • YOUR TURN

    sgvsbestbum,
I believe your pleading for a legitimate debate and disscusion on how Amat will approach next season has been started . You are now on the clock for your rebuttal. Please come back with legitimate answers not your usual nonsense bs.

  • Uncle Rico

    Joe Amat,

We all know since Amat recruits they will bring in transfers to fill in the voids. I personally believe Amat will be better than last year. My nephew is a sophomore QB at nearby school and was offered an alumni scholarship pretty cool!

  • Joe Amat

    Uncle Rico,

Not calling you out, but if I only had a nickel for every kid that was “offered a scholarship” I wouldn’t have had to pay any tuition for my kids… in high school or college.

More often than not there is something lost in translation, as everyone is very “schooled” on the language to use because there are so many “Uncle Ricos” out there.

    So,
“Financial aid is available to any qualifying student who applies for it. Here is a list of them:”
    http://tinyurl.com/AmatSchollies

There you go – now anyone who reads this can say they were “offered a scholarship” by Joe Amat.

Most of those “scholarships’ cover about half tuition. I do want to ask, How many “transfers” has Amat “recruited in your memory to “fill in the voids”? That tactic is usually left to some other schools in our area that shall remain I find it funny that after all these years and the talk about recruiting, scholarships and transfers – how often do schools like Amat and Mater Dei show up in regards to CIF improprieties. Now compare that to whatever schools you want to throw out there. nameless. It’s because they walk the line, cross their “T”s and dot the “I”s…and some others don’t.

Now, go throw a football over that mountain.

  • Me too

My sons friends cousin was offered the eric bienemy full partial scholarship grant to play fullback at AMAT. Listen people, the school offers financial aid and that’s it.

  • Free Ride

Come on Joe you are so full of crap, we all know Bishop Amat does it just like the majority of the other private schools. I guess base on your comment LA (Gano) didn’t recruit, since he never got caught. Or should I say he had friends up in high places (CIF), that took care of him. LA did it last year with Tibbs their runningback he was another illegal transfer. LA administration did the same as most of the other schools out there do lie. Keep on talking don’t worry we believe you Joe……..

  • COME UP WITH THE PROOF

    Free ride,
First off please list these transfers or recruited players you are saying are enrolled at Amat. Second of all you people have no idea just how tight Msgr is with money for scholarships or just about anything else at Amat. This money is there for those truely in need of financial help to enroll at Amat. There are different forms of criteria to qualify for assistance. There are more scholorships for academic reasons the athletic reasons but in both cases academic requirements must be met. There is not a lot of money to hand out for free tuition as you folks think there is . But as I started out give me your list of transfers and athletes on a free ride at Amat . Just because you think it happens doesn’t make it so. Now back up your play or keep it shut.

  • Free Ride

    COME UP WITH THE PROOF,

Obviously you aren’t Joe Amat, he isn’t that stupid to make a comment like you did. You just admitted to a CIF violation.

  • GET REAL

    Free ride,
Maybe the scholarship was the wrong term as it should be financial aid . As stated before it does not cover all costs only helps with basically tuition. Just go the Amat website and you can see for yourself . It is not hidden in some back room shifty dealing to get a prized athlete to enroll at Amat. Now back to the point ,where is your list of players . Don’t dodge the issue with some ticky tack bs. Either you have proof or you are just flapping your lips in the breeze. Which is it. Now let’s see who the stupid one truely is .

  • In the Know

If almumni pay for tuition is it considered a scholarship? Who cares as long as its getting paid right. I know #6 is on one for sure. Shoot when Daylon, Ralph and Kori were there they were on a RIDE. Why do people get so defensive it happens all the time? If Amat doesnt do this they would never be able to compete in the Pac 5.

  • Funny

People arguing come up with proof that they were given scholarships are a joke. Why don’t you come up with PROOF that they actually paid. Take of the blinders AMAT it happens everywhere but not at your precious little school. Give me a break if it wasn’t true why do you guys get so defensive. CHILD PLEASE…LOL

  • Turnabout

Funny – I heard you were a cross-dressing hermaphrodite. Come up with proof otherwise.

See, how it works? There is plenty of proof that kids paid and Amat’s penny-pinching president submits those books to the Archdiocese, who asks for an accounting of every penny, on a regular basis.

So proof exists, while you might not see it. On the other hand, do you have proof to dispute the above claim about you?

  • Funny

Turnabout or Turnraround (like your boyfriend tells you)

It doesn’t matter if the books show the balances paid. We are talking about scholarships not whether or not the books are balanced. I wan’t to see proof of who paid the tuition! The alumni do have a fund for athletic scholarships which honestly is not a big deal but to come on here and say it isn’t true is pretty ignorant. The deal is Amat fans have been attracting some pretty intelligent people to their school lately you know the “AMAT NATION” types and people from Amat claim they pay their own way please open your eyes and remove your rose colored glasses. Those families can’t afford a happy meal yet their kids are attending Amat on their own dime, yeah right. Get a clue.

  • Blue Lance

Does anybody know when Amat will start 7 on 7′s? AND, When does spring football officially start? Anxious to see what we got out there.

  • BAHS

Funny – Why do you care? I mean really, Why do you care if a kid gets assistance to attend Amat? Is it so you can claim that Amat “recruits” If a family needs financial assistance there are a number of places for them to get it at Amat. Amat “recruits” just like everybody else and it’s called – OPEN ENROLLMENT. Write that down somewhere so you don’t forget it. It’s a parent/families CHOICE to attend Bishop Amat, please don’t forget that plain and simple fact. If Amat were a football recruiting machine, that was also able to pay for all their recruited athletes, do you think they would keep going after the “under 6 foot” buck twenty-five athletes that everybody is breaking down doors to get? Relax big guy, they’re only kids trying to play football and get an education.

  • full disclosure

Funny (looking) – not only is no one trying to HIDE the alumni scholarships – Joe Amat even gave you the LINK below where you can find out about it. NO secrets and available for anyone to apply for.

  • Funny

Pretty interesting how now it isn’t financial aid they are scholarships. Amat people you guys are pathetic. If you guys still have the audasity that you are on a level playing field with all the local schools you guys just informed us all that your not. Thanks for the honesty. Now it’s off to winning a Pac 5 title no excuses.

  • full disclosure

Funny – you’re such a Dilweed. Had you followed the link you’d see the very 1st sentence says:
“The following scholarships and financial aid sources are currently available to students enrolled at Bishop Amat High School”

  • Funny

Comedy how Amat hacks get so emotional over what is apparently “not” going on at their beloved Amat!!! So do they recruit or not? If they don’t then I guess their coaches just love watching midget football games during the season.

  • emotional intelligence

how can you tell who’s “emotional” on a blog. Actually it sound like those making recruiting accusations are more emotional than peopleposting info and links

  • BAHS

That’s Pac-5 League Champion Midget football to you Butthead.

  • AmnotAChampionSince1995

“I don’t know if we can win at that (Pac-5) level, or when we can get to the top again…” Hags quoted by Fred J back in January.

The more things change, the more the stay the same. LMAO! Did you guys look at that picture Fred has on his blog? There can’t be 6 footer in that line-up. Which brings me to your schedule:

    Oct. 1 at Cathedral
    Oct. 8 Venice
    Oct. 15 Crespi
Oct. 22 vs. Loyola at LA Valley College
    Oct. 29 Notre Dame
    Nov. 5 BYE
    Nov. 12 at Alemany

How are you going to win any of these games Amnot?

Fogetaboutit! Hags is right. You ain’t going nowhere soon!

  • Repost from below

for Amnot a very good reader -
    Joe Amat said:

  • GUESS YOU HAVE A HANG UP

    amsnot2012,
Guess you really have a thing with size huh. Maybe it’s your lack of size that is what really gets to you. Isn’t it amazine that with nothing but 5’5″ and unders Hag’s managed to win a league title and knock off some very good teams this past season. If anyone should jump on the bandwagon it should be you . As then you could tell all your partners it not the size that counts just look at what all the little players at Amat did and if the can do it so can I with my little putz.
