LA Times responds to our SGV (N) Top 25 …

Yes, I know interest in football is big, but the San Gabriel Valley Tribune already has a preseason top 25 out for its area teams going into spring practice.

La Puente Bishop Amat is No. 1, with the question: “Who’s going to cover Wallace Gonzalez?” He’s the highly regarded receiver transfer from Glendora who sat out last season. My answer: Any number of players from Los Angeles Loyola, Encino Crespi, Mission Hills Alemany and Sherman Oaks Notre Dame. That’s why the Serra League is big-time football.

There’s nothing wrong with making early predictions, but I’ll wait until the summer passing tournaments to see which teams are top 25 material in Southern California because no one knows where the transfers are going to end up.

– Eric Sondheimer

If you want to respond to what Sondheimer said, you can do so by going here.

Aram’s take: I want to clarify something Sondheimer said. He called these predictions, which they are not. This Top 25 is just a guideline going into spring. There will be another one at the end of spring, reflecting all developments, another one after summer passing and then finally a preseason one. Also, I didn’t ask who’s going to cover Wallace Gonzalez. I said I have no idea how anybody will. If there are 6-foot-5 corners in the Serra League, then yes they have a shot. I respect Sondheimer’s right to wait on the Times top 25 because he covers EVERYONE. I’m dealing with a much-smaller pool of teams and it’s much easier to keep tabs on them.

This is my post in the LA Times PER RIVALS.COM—–Two-sport standout has the goods
    03/08/2010 Rivals.com Football Recruiting
Wallace Gonzalez III (6-5, 235, 4.7) from La Puente (Calif.) Bishop Amat is one of the best two-sport standouts on the west coast. He is getting serious recruiting interest for both his talents on the gridiron and the diamond.
Also Wallace Gonzalez has been nominated to play in 2011 U.S Army All-American Bowl. Those db’s at Loyola,Crespi,Alemany and Notre Dame must be good.

Wasn’t Amat mediocre (at best) at last season’s passing leagues? If that’s the case, I don’t know if you can read to much into them.

  • AMAT 73

The passing game is not really our forte. We use the pass to augment the running game . Maybe now this year seeing as we have some more options with receivers and a battle for the QB position that could change. If we start to click with the passing along with our strong running game we may see something special this coming season.

Eric Sondheimer needs to chill out. He’s probably just jealous because people ACTUALLY comment on the SGV Tribune’s blog.

Has anyone SEEN the LA TIMES Blog??? IT’S A GHOSTOWN!!!

    FRED AND ARAM RULE CYBERSPACE!

Last year South Hills beat Corona Centennial, Tesoro, J Serra, and La Habra in the Battle Of The Beach tournament @ Edison last year. The QB that led them to those wins was ……BOOTH

Eric does a great job. He has a tough job. The Times will never have the type of loyal/vocal following we have or the OC Register has. It’s a different dynamic.

But I want all of you to know that no matter whether you like me or Freddie, or not, you are getting some of the best prep sports coverage around. Yes, space in papers have fallen, but the Tribune/Star-News still does more than almost daily paper in L.A. And when it comes to online, nobody does it better. You all get info at your finger tips here. Breaking news, score updates and opinions. Again, you don’t have to like us, nobody really cares whether you do, but you do have to read us if you want to have your finger on the pulse.

    Passing league info
Passing league doesn’t mean anything. Its like playing over the line or like playing three on three basketball at the park?

  • Unreal…

    Aram,

You and Freddie rock. I almost cried when you left to fox sports. You guys are the best and I get to keep a close eye on my Lancers thanks to the info you guys provide.

    Keep up the good work.

    Passing League Info,
Just FYI, yes South Hills did beat those teams at the the Battle of the Beach but Booth was not the only QB throwing. The kid that is starting at SH now was the the most impressive that day. Booth wasn’t good enough to start at SH. Lucky for him though, he’s in a system now were all he has to do is hand off the ball and throw a fade to a 6-5 guy. You don’t have to be super special to do that.
