I can’t believe I have D-Ranch, WestCo and Muir ranked ahead of La Mirada …

… Yeah, that’s gonna change when the next All-Encompassing SGV (N) Top 25 comes out. It’s obviously time for me to stop thinking that D-Ranch and WestCo and maybe Muir should be the favorites in the Southeast Division. La Mirada might just be better than all of them.

Max Gama (#6) is headed to Washington St. and E.J. Galvez (#69) is going to Nevada.

Here are the stud recruits from La Mirada this season and the colleges that want them:

Isaac Luatua, 6-3, 300 OG: SEC: Arkansas, Tennessee, BIG EAST: Syracuse, ACC: Boston College, PAC 10: UCLA, Washington St, BIG 10: Minnesota, MT. WEST: Colorado St, New Mexico, Wyoming WAC: New Mexico St.

Bryan Peter, 6-5 305 OT: Florida St, Colorado St, Hawaii, Nevada, New Mexico, Wyoming.

Aaron Bouzos, 5-11, 185 S/WR:
Nebraska, New Mexico St, Wyoming.

Max Gama, 6-0, 190 RB/LB: Committed to Washington St.

E.J. Galvez, 6-2, 260 C/G: Committed to Nevada.

Aram’s take: La Mirada went 13-1 last season. They have FIVE, count ‘em, FIVE D-1 prospects!!! That’s it, I’m flipping. Granted, D-Ranch, WestCo and Muir have studs of their own, but FIVE? There’s no doubt that D-Ranch, WestCo and Muir and maybe even Rowland or the Del Rio champ could beat La Mirada in the playoffs, but right now the Matadores have to be favored. Ahh yes, but can they beat La Habra in the opener?

  • Norco

Aram…A little food for thought…So because a team has 5 D1 players they are the favorites? Last years Corona had 4 D1 kids sign with Colorado, Washington, USC and UCLA….CB Demetrious Wright (SC) was ranked in the top ten in the Nation at his postion and was an ALL American…RB Jordan James (UCLA) was ranked in the top five in the Nation in his postion and was an ALL American…

Bottom line Corona didn`t even make the playoffs…

  • http://www.insidesocal.com/sgvfootball Aram

I respect that, but La Mirada was 13-1 last season.

Roosevelt High School had FIVE D1 kids… Austin Hill(Arizona), Harold Mobley(Colorado), Josh Mitchell ( Nebraska) Tyler Slavin(Arizona), Aaron Brown(Neveda,Reno)…finished third in the BigV111…So you see were Im going with this???????????????

  • Ya

Put things in perspective Norco. Corona was playing some very good teams, with plenty of D1 talent to go around. The SGV is not the inland empire when it comes to talent. Would Corona have beaten teams like DR, Rowland, Muir, or even CO? I say yes, what about you?

  • reality

Early polls make for blog fodder but thats it. Please write more about the teams, their players, coaches, their schedules and strategies, but early poll guesses in my humble opinion are boring. Wait until at least the 2nd week of the season to evaluate the talent by making top team lists.I would like to know more about how the teams are looking in spring practice, both the good and the not so good. I would like to know what teams you think are looking improved over last season and why.

  • Aaron

Diamond Ranch lost the second half of a special group of kids, I think they’re in rebuilding mode. It’s hard to replace the unquestioned leader of your team.

La Mirada went 13-1, won their division, and returns a lot of people. They lose their QB to graduation but they have a younger yet solid player coming into fill the hole.

  • K

La Mirada is a good program and they certainly play La Habra tougher this year. But make no mistake about it…Mazzotta scheduled LM to make sure everyone knows who still rules the area and as someone in the LH/LM area, trust me… we know.

Norco, we get it! The Big VIII is legit! Is that what you wanted to hear? Why are you on this blog (and this is not the 1st time) bashing SGV teams? AT wasn’t saying that La Mirada was going to beat teams out in the 951/909, they aren’t anywhere near the Inland division.

Go talk trash to Logan about how you guys finally beat them.

  • If you play these parochials, you better bring more than 5 D-1 recruits….

Despite their 5 D-1 recruits, La Mirada struggled against St. Paul but did manage to win 15-7. This game was 7-3 in favor of St. Paul going into the 4th Quarter! I don’t think St. Paul had any D-1 players either…

Just how powerful were So Cal’s top football parochials in 2009?

La Mirada 15, St. Paul 7

St. John Bosco 35, St. Paul 0
Bishop Amat 38, St. Paul 6
    Crespi 63, St. Paul 14
St. Francis 34, St. Paul 7
    Chaminade 53, St. Paul 28
    Alemany 44, St. Paul 14

With a comparison like this, it’s easy to see why there are many people that are calling for an all parochial division…

  • Dan

    Aram,
They’ve have my attention too, CIF champs with most of their studs coming back and a huge offensive line.
I seem to remember La Mirada and Los Altos would have some pretty good showdowns around the times when Shaun Cody played.
We’ve lost Charter Oak, South Hills, and Schurr from this division but La Mirada, Mayfair and Norwalk are some pretty good replacement teams.

  • just sayin’

those parochials are D1 & D3. La Mirada is what division. Results were as they should be. Things are fine where they at.

  • Norco

    K…

Why is it every time someone makes a comment, you clowns consider it bashing? I was trying to make a point to Aram, that having D1 athletes don`t always equal success. Also where in my post did I say La Mirada was going to play or beat teams from the Inland…I think you need to take a reading comprehension class amigo. And I don`t need to get validation that the BigV111 is legit.

Also I`m on this blog to talk football, you act like this is your blog. Lol….And FYI….La Mirada is in southeast Los Angeles County…..lol…

And no need to talk trash about CC….They have a great program and Logan is a class act. Norco Alumni I might add.

  • Joe Huskies

Ok, bottom line is La Mirada is a formidable foe and probably for every intent and purpose can and will beat the traditional elite teams in the Southeast Division but I remember very distinctly Charter Oak had La Mirada on their preseason schedule for years and even played them again in the playoffs and I think beat them every time. My point is how about we say here are the top tier teams but far too early to declare a program the winner. I for one hope there are a few surprises like a Schurr that have been close. West Covina hasn’t won a meaningful game in more than a few years and neither has Rowland, Bonita, or Muir and no one give me yes but they have been close because I only want to hear WINS! My favorite and again I may be bias is Diamond Ranch because anyone who has beaten us two years in a row deserves to be considered the favorite until otherwise and they have consistently been Charter Oak’s toughest opponent. So give credit where credit is due and Diamond Ranch should be in the same conversation with La Mirada and everyone else afterwards. My hope is Schurr and Muir are playing in December. Good luck boys! The men are moving on to the Inland Division so have fun in the Southeast. Over here at South Hills we want you Norco! You, your pie hole, and pie patties..!

  • Teamwork!

Charter Oak also had 5 D-1 recruits and a CIF Championship but they had loads of trouble with Gardena, Muir, and Diamond Ranch. On paper, CO should have domitated these teams but they did not.

  • Joe Mama

James,I I I mean Joe Huskie, I believe one of the last meaningful wins for West Covina was against your Huskies for a league title.

  • Living Legend

Joe Husky, the men are moving into the inland division huh? Well if by “men” you mean those who kick, scream and cry about going to the inland division then you are right! South Hills tried everything not to be there, and even though your head coach tries to sell you that it is a sign of flattery, well he was thinking about hanging up the whistle because of this move.

Lets be honest South Hills has not been the “man” in any division in many of years, well since you guys got to play the likes of Orange and San Gabriel.

You really don’t want Norco, just like you really wanted no part of Tesoro last year, like you guys wanting no part of CO every year, like you guys wanting no part of LH anymore.

Is honesty a hard thing with you people over at South Hills?

    War Legend

  • LM HPT

Just a little up date Aram…. Bouzos committed to Nebraska today, And in even bigger news Isaac Luatua was offered by ALABAMA today! All offers can be confirmed on rivals.com Thanks for including LM in your Blog you do a great job…

  • Joe Huskies

For your information gentlemen really doesn’t matter who I am and what our team has done in the past. What matters is only that have revenge on our mind and our only payback is to prove to each of you and every other critic that the last two years disappointment and failure will propel us to something even greater than Charter Oak and San Dimas. Admit when we win a C.I.F. Championship in the Inland Division versus Chaparral, Norco, Centennial, etc. This will be an even greater feat than the schools I mentioned above and their recent success. Coach Bogan is a very prideful man and he’s not happy with the critics and after a while you have to decide how to react and our reaction is to attack and destroy every opponent in our path to glory. You haven’t seen our offseason program. You haven’t seen a coach or coaches we’ve hired this year. Our only intent and purpose is payback one opponent at a time and make them suffer the ill wills they have tried to impose on us so Living Legend your just that living in the past and a has been want to be no good anymore player, coach, etc. How’s that for honesty?

  • http://www.insidesocal.com/sgvfootball Aram

Wow, the Legend makes an appearance. A harsh one. On one of his favorite subjects no less. Where have you been?

  • DRanchhhh

    Aram,

Your worried about LM being ranked below DR, WC etc..Im trying to figure out why “D.Johnson and the BA’s” is ranked ahead of LA HABRA??????????

Although these rankings are 50/50, “D.Johnson and the BA’s” ahead of LH?? Come on now.

  • New York

It looks like this may be a “different” La Mirada than the one from the early 2000s. Has Moschetti (sp?) attracted greater regional talent?

  • The Stang Fan

    Aram,

Hell, it’s spring, put’em wherever you’d like! I have no qualms with LM being ranked ahead of those teams. They are defending CIF champs who only lost one game, and bring back quite a few studs…sounds good to me. Those are the top 4 teams IMO so they are all going to have to battle it out at the end anyway.

  • DIDN’T YOU LEARN

    drrrranch,
Didn’t you learn anything from the 2 beatdowns at the hands of Amat these past 2 seasons. Still in denile about that. Don’t go back crying about the PI call in the first game. If you have game film maybe you should review and again see why Aram has it that way.

  • Let’s All Get Along

    DRanchhhh

Please don’t start on BA. Team Amat and their fans treated Diamond Ranch with the utmost respect last season. You know this because you were at the game at Diamond Ranch. What do you care about La Habra anyways?

  • just sayin’

    coulda been 88-0

  • BigDog

    Didn’T you learn
Thanks to bad call in 2008 Amat was lucky to get that win.Could have gone in DR favor if not for the bad call.

  • BigDog

    Didn’T you learn
Cif agreed with bad call and letter of apology was officially sent to DR.You cant call PI behind the line of scrimmage……..end of story. That DR was just a better all around team than 2008 Amat team.

  • DRanchhhh

Dude…are you guys serious, What happened with DR and DJ and the Amats has nothing to do with why LA HABRA is ranked below BA. That is complete and utter BS. You guys can get as personal and as offended as you want but again, why is BA ranked above LH? Can someone please specifically answer that question?

2008–Come on now its the past…who cares. We were at your home, with your refs, being broadcasted by one of your own. Again, just listen to JJ’s comments about the call behind the line of scrimmage.

2009–Darien Johnson lit us up, point blank, period. Great athlete, great speed and great ability. Would you not agree that had DJ not been in place, you could erase 2 if not 3 of your wins off of your record?? Exactly! So let the past go and answer the question at hand. Why is a team that won CIF in their division 3 years in a row ranked below a team that hasnt seen a CIF championship game since the 90′s??

  • DRanchhhh

    Didnt YOU learn,

I’d reverse my stance and say 1 beat down. Don’t get to excited about facts vs. fan opinion.

I dont care about leagues and divisions etc. Essentially you (SGVTribune, FJR, ARAM, and AMAT fans) can beat La Habra on any given FRIDAY NIGHT?

  • Dan

    New York,
This La Mirada team looks pretty good, but I seem to remember those late 90 early 2000 teams sometimes beating the Los Altos and Charter Oaks of those days. When ever they met it was a showdown type of game and they would be tight games. It’s tough to say how good last years La Mirada team was because the division they won wasn’t a real tough division, other red flags were La Habra putting 53 point on them and to a lesser degree, barely squeaking by probably one of the worst St. Paul teams ever, I think last years La Mirada was in the caliber of Diamond Ranch, South Hills, or West Covina.
Now as far as this year goes I could see La Mirada
being a very good team because of all the kids they have returning from their championship team. Winning the title could be a big boost to their confidence and plus they are a year older and a year stronger and now
it looks like some of these kids have some D1 offers.
Should be a very competitive division next year, La Mirada looks good on paper, and I have no issues with them being ranked at the top, like stangfan said, all these team will have to battle it out in the end.

  • did I say fool?

BigDog – fool. No letter ever was received. that’s a myth. “can’t call pass interference behind the line of scrimmage? another wrong one. If so – a screen pass would never be completed – you’d just light up the receiver each time. fool

  • Do the Math

La Habra’s only loss this year was to a D1/Pac5 team. They’re 1-3 the past two years vs 3rd place teams inthe Pac5. Amat was League Champion in the Pac5′s toughest league.

  • I did the math…

La Habra played Los Alamitos…LA is notorious for playing cupcakes in the preseason to fatten their resume going into league…reality is LA has been on a down swing for the past six years…they have not made it past the first round of the playoffs five out of the last six years, losing by a combined score in five games of 172-34….

  • POP WARNER SENSATION !!!!!!!!!!

Speaking of Los Alamitos what ever happened to the WHITE REGGIE BUSH?

You know the Pop Warner sensation, the YouTube phenom, the 12 year old that HAD TO BE SEEN TO BE BELIEVED?

    WHAT EVER HAPPENED TO HIM?

  • I remember after BA beat DR,…..Dranchhhh became a BA fan and then mysteriously dissapeared…..hmm

    Dranchhhh

Statistically, BA dominated DR in both games. All stats were in favor of BA and BA was actually driving and would have scored another TD if they had not shown mercy on DR as time expired. The TRUE score of the BA vs. DR game in 2008 was BA 24, DR 6. This was a valiant effort by DR but if I remember correctly, DR was HELD TO LESS THAN 100 YRDS TOTAL OFFENSE.

    Big Dog

I’ve been following BA and SGV ball for about 20 years now. The whole “cif letter of apology” is nothing more than an Urban Legend. You have no idea how many mythical letters from the CIF I have heard about and they are all BS. There is no such thing as a pass interference call in the backfield and there is no such thing as a letter of apology from the CIF! LOL!

  • My God…

Common guys….LOS ALAMITOS would rock any school from the San Gabriel Valley except Bishop Amat. These guys are in a league w/ Edison, Esperanza, Fountain Valley, and Dana Hills. Why is it that only Bishop Amat people understand how great of a program Los Alamitos has? Have any of you actually SEEN Edison??? I swear ya’ll would crap ur pants! LOL!

  • ok

Los Al is on a down swing period. Since there is no more open enrollment it has taken their program back down to average. As for the Sunset League as a whole, just look at their playoff record the last six years…the only that advances is Edison, every other team is one and done. And another thing Esperanza missed the playoffs last year and was moved down a few divisions this year. The new HS Yorba Linda has hurt Espys numbers overall. Fountain Valley has made the playoffs the 4 out 6 years and has a combined 33-30 record…not very impressive considering they load up on lower division cupcakes in the preseason. The Sunset league is well know for that. Hell take out MD and Servite from Edison schedule adn Edison has a cupcake preseason schedule with Artesia, Long Beach Jordan & Long beach Cabrillo…all bottom feeders in their respective leagues.

And FYI Dana Hills has NEVER been in the Sunset League, also when did they ever become relevant? Last year they lost three games all blowouts, they beat the teams they are supposed too and lose to the good teams.

  • In Rod We Trust

First, Drraaannnch shut up! Amat beat us! Get over it and stop going back to it. Second, rank teams where you want to, it is Spring Football. Eevn after Spring and summers 7 on 7 who cares. Bottom line the only ranking that means anything is at the end of the season (except for the fact that Freddie had his boys from SH ranked over a DR team that beat SH again). What does DR having coming back? Roddy! The teams the last two seasons would not have gone to CIF without him. Two years ago people doubted DR because no one knew who the QB would be. Gus Viramontes stepped in and sent his team to CIF Championship appearances. Going into last season people were saying that DR graduated too many seniors and that they would need to rebuild yet they once again made a deep CIF run to the CIF Championship. I have watched DR practices from Spring to Winter for the last few years. DR doesn’t attract 100 to 200 players like other programs. They maybe will have 70 in the whole program (if that). I watched playoff practices last year where Roddy had to play positions for practice squad because there were not enough numbers. What is central to DR is the fact that coach Layton continues to remain at DR. He is the pulse of the team and he gets the most out of his players. He creates quick athletes who don’t know how to quit. He inspires them to play every down as if it is there last. That is the real reason why they beat SH. The players from DR play harder for Roddy than other players do for their coach. So LM has 5 D1 players. That is not knew for DR. That is why they schedule tough preseason games. To prepare for playoffs. DR doesn’t have much coming back and is once again in rebuilding mode, but Roddy is returning and that alone allows me to believe we will play in the championship again this year.

  • Dranchhhh

V——-Who is this weird INTERNET gangster who can’t seem to spell nor place words correctly? Get over it, NEVER!! Those kids who played in that game still can’t “get over it”. I am still in communication with most of them. When BA folks come on here bloggin’ about how they beat us two years in a row, in my opinion it’s a fallacy. Tell them to get over it. I’ll give BA last year but that’s where “the ball stops bouncing”. I respect BA but some of their fans are way to cocky. This blog continuously puts BA at the top of HS Football royalty in SGV and that is not cool. There are other teams that do far more special things in the SGV than BA. Fortunately for BA, they have had “special” classes the last 2 years. That is no reason for Aram, FJR and the SGVTribune to rank them above a team (LH) that has far exceeded the expectation of winning.

It seems that no one can still answer that initial question. WHY are they (BA) ranked above LH? If these polls didn’t mean anything to the people who read them, well frankly they (SGVTribune) wouldn’t post them you AZSNUT.

Oh, and by the way, Roddy will even tell you himself that if you don’t have committed student/athletes, you don’t have a team. You wrote almost a whole paragraph and didnt say a word. Step your writing game up!!

  • Joe Amat

    just sayin’ said:
    coulda been 88-0
    May 14, 2010 11:19 AM

And keep trying to kid yourself. Yes, it was TWO beat downs. DR had 1 drive of 84yds to open the 2nd half. Outside of that about 40yds total offense. Add that to the number of big Amat plays that were called back and – you were beat down on Fox Sports! Amat took a knee FOUR times in the final 1:30 INSIDE THE 10! Shows Hags has class and respect for Roddy – but how bad is that? That’s like the Mercy Rule – running clock – don’t steal on passed balls – GAME OVER! A little different than DR trying to punch it in against 3rd stringers as time expires last yr (to make it look a little closer)

If Amat can DOMINATE the Southeast finalist(and La Habra’s only one division higher), win the toughest league in the Pac5 and IN THE STATE, and La Habras only loss was to a 3rd place Pac5 team, Amat finished last season ranked higher than La Habra. La Habra graduated a guy that ran for 2000+ yds, That’s a chunk of total offense to replace. All that adding up – it makes sense that Amat should be ranked over them here – for now.

La Mirada loses a very good coach to Buena

  • Coaching

My opinion take DRanch coaching staff and swap it with BA coaching staff and DRanch would win those games. Sorry DRanch but your coaching staff sucks!
