Gladstone coach Albert Sanchez, Dean of the Montview, weighs in on the league’s coaching strength …

Get this, Gladstone coach Albert Sanchez estimates he’s seen four different coaches at each of the Montview League schools during his 10 years in the league. But this year, the strength in Montview League coaching could be at an all-time high. So Coach Sanchez gives his take on his new foes and the league’s ever-growing strength in coaching.

Can Gladstone and Sanchez get back to their dominant ways against these coaches?

“The coaching is going to be there. These guys (Bassett’s Craig Cieslik and Workman’s Scott Morrison) come with credible records. Their bios speak for themselves. Coaching is just one aspect of it. You’re going to have to have the kids to go along with it. But surely those guys are going to add their football smarts onto their teams.”

Here’s your Montview braintrust rundown:

Joe Scherf, Azusa: A Montview League team in the semis? Scherf did it. Two outstanding years and more likely to come.

Craig Cieslik, Bassett: He brings funky new offense and a strong record of turning programs around FAST. But will he stay long? Will the kids buy in before the wins come?

Tip Sanders, Duarte: Everybody knows what he accomplished at Blair. If he can do it there, then he can do it at Duarte. However, the kids don’t seem to know that yet … and maybe the administration, too.

Brandon Rohrer, La Puente: Makes most people’s list of hot, young coaching commodities. There’s no doubt he’s going to have La Puente rolling. Heck, they went 8-3 last season.

Scott Morrison, Workman: I have the feeling Morrison is going to prove a point to those who doubted him at Damien. Workman should be so lucky to have a coach of this quality … and it probably won’t take long for them to realize it.

Morrison’s mojo may work in Industry.

Albert Sanchez, Gladstone: We all remember how strong Sanchez’s team were in the early/mid-2000s. It’s just too bad they weren’t in the Mid-Valley Division then.

Keith Locklear, Sierra Vista: If he can instill the same type of discipline and fundamentals in the football program as he’s done with the girls basketball team, then look out. The Dons were 5-5 last year and are mostly being overlooked due to all the changes elsewhere.

Ganesha … well ….
