Chew on this …

Charter Oak incoming freshman Kurt Scoby is very much in the mix to be the man at running back this season.

  • a

and once again another duarte kid…

    do work scoby!!

  • Aaron

Let him have fun on the Freshman squad, and if he does well bring him up late in the season.

  • Bob

Anyone who saw this kid play Jr All American football will not be surprised. He plays with passion (Big Heart) & plays to win.He has that swagger any coach would kill for. CO has a player..

  • Hey bob

Hey bob too bad the kid has a bad attitude in jr. All-American he got suspend for a for a few games for fighting. Fits right in with co. Plus look duarte kid getting recruited. Guarentee kid doesn’t live in district or he lives in farrars apartments.

  • footballmom

Yes, Kurt may have had a bad attitude before, but being in a stable environment does wonders for a kid. He has a huge heart for all things football.. And he’s no longer a Duarte kid…

  • Please save your comments

First of all he never fought! He got tackled on a play and the player sat on him and was talking trash while sitting on him! anybody would have retaliated….all he did was kick the player off of him! get a grip. To see where this kid has gone from where he first started, he is a success story in the making! Scooby we all know what you’re made of and bring to any school you would have chosen to attend! don’t listen to any of the hating idiots on this blog! They don’t know what they are talking about!

  • anybody?

Please save your comments – no “anybody” may not have retaliated. THAT is a cop out for poor behavior. Sounds liek the next Michael Graham. Look it up!

  • We shall see

So this kid is better than Adam Muema? Did Adam start as a Fr.? How big is he? Is he like Hershel Walker or like Walter Payton.

    Never heard of the kid.

BTW Aram didn’t you once post about a kid who they called “The White Reggie Bush”. I saw his highlights and he was spectacular in Pop Warner. A few months ago I checked his HS stats over at Los Alamitos and he’s not starting.

So now this kid is all that….we shall see.

  • Duarte Hawk for life!

    Chew on this…

I am not impressed with your “breaking news” Mr. Tolegian. Scooby went to Northview Intermediate school along with more than several other classmates who also have transferred to other high schools including:

    South Hills = 3
    Glendora = 2
    Charter Oak = 1
    Monrovia = 1

The Duarte Hawks Jr. All-American football team is playing at those above high schools along with Charter Oak so give those other kids their just due as well because in my opinion and some of these kids are family they may be even more athletic than Scooby so watch because in a couple years South Hills and Glendora are going to make some noise with these boys. Monrovia’s kid may be the best one in the entire group.

Just don’t let any of those schools lie to you because every one of them now have kids that went to Northview Intermediate school but instead of going to Duarte High School are traveling far to South Hills, Glendora, and yes Monrovia is closer to home.

    Good luck boys and represent!

Every one of them are good kids looking for an opportunity!

  • TheMid

Too bad for Northview. How about some breaking news about getting kids to play for the high schools they live by?

  • G-Town wants to know

    Duarte Hawk for life!:

I’m a Glendora fan and would like to know who are the two young men that are going to be sporting the Tartan colors? I hope they can make contributions in the future. Thanks.

  • Bob

Duarte Hawk for life! said: You are right there are other kids that played with Scoby that are better, and that’s not taking anything away from Scoby. If your kid play at Duarte you better give him a good look chances are he’s a player. We shall see said: He’s not a big kid. I say maybe 5’8?? someone correct me if I’m wrong. This kid whenever he gets into the starting lineup will never leave the field.Talent has ALWAYS come out of this Duarte program. If the Duarte HS football program ever got their act together and kept most of their kids to stay at there local school they would be back (they were good a few years ago but that’s another story) as a local football power.

  • Norco

Bob…youth football is no way the same as HS football, kids are bigger, faster and more athletic…I don`t care how talented a kid is…he needs time to adjust to the speed of the game…..Aaron hit it on the nose…let him play freshmen ball and enjoy himself, and if he does well move him up to the varsity to practice..

  • Anonymous123

Although the Duarte Hawks have an amazing team year after year, the cream of the crop from those programs usually end up a Monrovia and play for the Cats. The majority of the players that play for the Hawks live in Monrovia. Arcadia jr. all american football usually fields pretty descent teams as well and a good group of the skill players live in Monrovia as well. But I agree with D-Hawk for life, As silly as it sounds these young players are actually being scouted by several east valley schools at a very young age. Look at Charter Oaks and Bishop Amat in the past few years. Monrovia lost several players to this psuedo draft right out of their freshman seasons. What a lot of folks are going to realize is Monrovia has been staying the course even with these types of setbacks and will probably be one of if not the premiere representives of the SGVN in general. I still wish the area good luck in competing or the sake of good football in general. OUT!

  • Scooby’s AD

I had the pleasure of being Scooby’s AD in the Duarte Hawks program for several years. I know first hand what Scooby went through I was right on the field with him from the time he was 8 years old. I used to get calls every year asking me if #5 was still on my team. He was known all around Jr All American for the great player he was. Of course I said yes. Scoob was a target and from talking to AD’s of other teams coaches told their players to TAKE #5 OUT and when Scoob had had enough of the late hits, the taunting, the cursing amongst other things he defended himself in a game where he was sat on and taunted and for that he was ejected for one game. He didn’t even hit the kid he just pushed him off of him. Anyone who would have gone through what Scoob did would have done the same thing. Don’t confuse a bad attitude with finally being fed up with dirty players and defending yourself. The photographer from Glendale Bears came to one of our scrimmage games and gave Scoob a great picture of himself running over a pack of Bears. He told me I don’t usually take pictures of kids on other teams but this kid is amazing. He even had Scoob sign a picture for him. Not only was Scoob my player on the field he spent time in my home with my boys and he is a great kid. Unless you personally know Scoob you have nothing to say. Scoob will do wonders at Charter Oak and I will be right there cheering him on he gave my personal invite yesterday.

Give it to them Scoob!!!!! Make all the doubtors and haters eat their words.

  • D-Mo

Yeah, at CO we love to root on our freshman. Can’t wait to see Kurt run over people, Charger style. Welcome home Scoby.

  • chargers

all u scooby haters sound like cleveland fans haha…do work kurt!

  • No Knox On Him

Is this kid better than Milton Knox out of Birmingham a few years ago. Seen Knox take on Stefon Johnson’s Dorsey team and beat them for the City Championship. He was a flat out two way starter playing safety as well as TB. Is this kid that good?

If he is great but what’s with all the drama?

  • footballmom

Hey G-town, you’re getting two fantastic basketball players straight from Northview Middle School that will be now be wearing your tartan colors. Take care of them..

  • Norco

    Scooby’s AD….

Running over youth football players is not the same as running over HS players…FYI…

  • LET’S BE HONEST

I am not saying this kids does not have talent or is a bad kid . Playing Pop Warner or JAA is a completely different ball game . I only wish him the best but when he gets a taste of some real wood being laid on him by some 250 + lb senior lineman or LB it will be a whole new experience for him. The best thing would be to bring him in Frosh or JV for a few games then bring him up to Varsity. I have yet to see a back from the 8th grade come into in program especially a program of CO’s caliber and make a big impact. Inorder for those 4 wide outs to do the kind of damage they want to they will need a running game to open up the passing game beause you can’t run 4 wide on every play . Either way good luck to this young man .

  • Norco

    Ok…lets be honest…

Before you need a running game….You need great play at the OL…

  • LOVE football

My son played with Scooby for 4 yrs with the HAWKS and Scooby has matured more than any other teen due to life circumstances. He is a very respectful young man who is a very hard worker and puts his heart into what he does. Unless u truly know him personally and know the circumstances for the suspension bcuz u were actually at the game, then u cant speak on it. I attended EVERY game and never saw any dirty play from our boys. I can say that teams ALWAYS had it in for the HAWKS. I know this first hand from being an AD. I dont understand why so many haters out there. Let it be and encourage to excel! DUARTE HAWKS 4 LIFE.

  • Bruin Coach

I have coached against Duarte for 3 years and Scoby is a very good running back he will make some noise. Good luck at Charter Oak!!

This kid I coached last year won’t be a freshman until 2011 but when he does watch out, he is only 12 in this video!! Enjoy

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xi8Tdt932Ng

  • kingpin

Can u say overrated? I can’t believe there’s so much talk about a average incoming freshman.

  • El Monte JETS

Bruin Coach this kid will not make an impact at the high school level right now he’s doing good because he is bigger than the other kids. Wait till he is in high school battling to try and make it to the freshman squad, this kid is week. This other kids Scoby is legit now thats a player. 8th grader on varsity o_0 WHAT!

  • Bruin Coach

el monte jet, you are correct in that he wouldn’t make an impact on a high school team yet but to call him weak? You must be an upset parent of one of the kids that he ran over during scrimmage last year in your park. If you look at the video he is smaller and younger then 80% of the kids he played against. He was 12 and most kids he played with and against were 13 year olds. Oh yeah and Scoby is very good but he is a 9th grader not an 8th grader so not sure what your trying to get to?

I see Scoob still has everyone talking. That’s what’s so GREAT seems he’s made his mark already people can’t stop talking about him and we love it! Yes, high school is very different from Jr All American but when you get a player like Scoob and they don’t come around too often who has the heart, determination, skill, ability, passion and I can go on and on you know he’s going to do big things and Scoob is. Just remember to check out the Prep Sports page in your local newspapers because I guarantee you this…Scoob’s name will be there and often.

Give them more to talk about Scoob…

Seems Scooby has already made a statement without stepping foot on the football field people can’t seem to stop talking about him and we just LOVE it! Yes high school football is different from Jr All American but when you come across a kid and they don’t come around often who has the skill, talent, drive , determination, hard work ethic, the passion for football I can go on and on that Scoob has you know he’s going to make it and Scoob will. Just to let you all know…I went to see Scoob yesterday at Charter Oak and he’s ready to go! He’s grown, he’s added weight, he’s been working out so get prepared he’s ready to make his statement on the football field. Get ready for for the Scoob show its coming to a city near you.

Leave it all out on the field Scoob…you’ll make all the non believers, believers very soon.

  • flex

I coached scoby in his midget year, which was last year… and all you people that are doubting him is because you do not know this kid… he is a talent that still has been untapped… he will only get better… he has the speed, he has the awareness, he has the heart, the dedication and he is a great kid… remember he is still a kid and you should keep you negative comments to yourselves and let this kid do great things….

Its such as you read my mind! You seem to know so much about this, like you wrote the book in it or something. I feel that you just can do with some p.c. to power the message home a little bit, however instead of that, that is fantastic blog. A great read. I’ll certainly be back.
