Chew on this … Dennis Rufus at QB for Charter Oak?

… I guess you can go to passing games and say things like “Little Joey looks great at receiver,” but what’s that really tell anybody? ALMOST EVERYBODY looks great in passing games. However, once in a while there are legit clues one can uncover about a team’s intentions.

Take yesterday’s throw between Charter Oak, South Hills and Crespi, for instance. There was Charter Oak receiver Dennis Rufus taking snaps at quarterback. I’m no Bill Walsh, but it appears pretty clear that Chargers offensive guru Dom Farrar is doing some tinkering. Wildcat, anybody?

Oh yeah, and by the way, if you want a professional photo gallery of yesterday’s action, here it is compliments of Staff Photog Keith Durflinger.

I was at SH yesterday.Wildcat for Rufus, maybe QB-no.This may have been a good idea last year, he’s too far behind and raw(he’s a senior). He’s arm is not that bad. He can thrown the ball deep, but too late into his high school career to try this. The other two QB’s look good.Crespi in my opinion was the best team out there. They are deep at the skilled positions, a tall lefty QB who throws the ball well, but there best player was a big tight end who they put slot and runs well. CO look good, young, a lot of talent but not the game brakers like years past. They are deep at wide receivers (good size-tall).CO is going to be OK and the will get better as the season goes on(just like all the CO teams).SH needs the most work but when it was over I saw their linemen and they are BIG.After seeing SH linemen I don’t think they will being throwing the ball very much this year.Too hot for football…

  • Rufus – Nelson combo

grapevine says Dennis Rufus and JR Nelson have teamed up for some skills workouts during the dead period in August – dont think QB skills are on the menu – Aubrey is a backup QB for Walnut – maybe CO is testing the waters with Rufus as a backup

Four years ago after graduating from middle school, Rufus played summer ball with Muir and played as the back-up QB. The old editor at the PSN, S. Galetti, even wrote about an EXCELLENT game Dennis had vs. Hart, when he brought them from behind to win the game. The kid is a great overall talent.

Glad to see the kid doing ballin’ out…keep it up Rufus!
