Muir QB Jeffrey Davis unveils his new hairdo and WR Karl Holmes talks Amat, Tussle and beyond …

I was out at Muir on Tuesday with Star-News prep editor Miggy Melendez. I have one word for you: Wow. It’s still very early and I know the ‘Stangs usually pass the look test, but this is different. I’m used to seeing the 4-5 D-1 frames, instead it’s more 10-12. Think I’m kidding?

Anyway, I was impressed with what I saw and it’s pretty clear Muir has the makings of a dynamite offense. New QB Jeffrey Davis has had a great offseason from all reports and he’s certainly got the targets in Karl Holmes, DaDa McFadden and Kevon Seymour. And the line looks great, too. Cameron Palmer and Danny Huerta are pretty big dudes, but Shawn Wilcox is mammoth. And RB Howard Vaughn is a truck.

I know Muir was only 4-7 last year, but on look-test alone you can see why this is the worst keep secret since the chill cheese fries at Jim’s (on Woodbury and Lincoln). Thought I wasn’t?

Hit up Miguel’s blog for an interview with Muir coach Ken Howard.

It’s Shaun Wilcox…But yeah he is huge.

Give me Muir vs. West Covina or Muir vs. La Mirada at some point in the playoffs. And give it to me up in the ‘Dena where I can hit Magic Johnson Sport and then Jim’s. Or maybe just Jim’s. Yes, I’m commenting on my post. Fired up!

    Aram,

Wheeeeewwwwww. Man. It feels good to be back. I wanted to take a step back during the summer because, well, frankly, I wanted to avoid: hollow chest-pounding, endless ellipses, filler-lists, CO vs. Amat monotony, treasonous transfers, MVN vs. SGVN, overly optimistic opinions, etc. Ok, well maybe it’s kind of cool that folks are optimistic early on, yet there are those whose glasses aren’t simply rose-colored but stained with crimson. By the way, I’ve been guilty of about 90% of those offenses….

Anyhow, I’m glad you made it to Lincoln Ave today. It’s nice to get a glimpse of the boys early on, thanks. There has certainly been a positive buzz about the Stangs this summer and I’m pretty excited to see how they will fare early on in pre-season. The team seems to be stacked at a lot of positions. In fact, two other kids you didn’t mention, Trayveion Yates (Sr.) and Tairen Owens (Jr.), will also have a big impact this year. As usual, the team will probably field 27-30 players, and will have trouble filling in spots if/when guys go down. But this team is experienced (approximately 70-75 starts on the offensive line) and has a lot of firepower and a speedy, aggressive defense coming back.

The scrimmage with Cathedral on the 27th just can’t come soon enough, let alone the trip to La Puente.

    LET’S GO STANGS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Btw, the irony of Magic’s 24-hour Fitness sitting directly across from Jim’s tickles me every time. As a matter of fact, 24-hour is completely beleaguered by high blood-pressure havens: Jims to the west, Micky D’s to the south, and the infamous Bill’s Chicken to the north. Every time I step out of there I gotta go X-Clan….”to the East my brother, to the East.” Sadly, if you happen to report from the visitor’s sidelines, you’ll probably have to hit up ALL three spots after the game. Don’t ask. Just talk to Torosian.

Whoa whoa whoa, what’s Bill’s Chicken?

  • The Stang Fan

Lol! It’s an oldie but goodie in the area. It’s had about 3 or 4 different locations, notably on Lake and Washington, but it landed in the new spot when Bessie’s Soul Food Tacos went out of business….again, don’t ask. Not sure how the food is anymore, but it used to be pretty good.

  • DRanchhhh
