Pendleton had 225 yrds and 3 td in only 1 and a half quarters. I can not wait to see him play the rest on the way. Keep up the hard work GP.

  • Class of 2012

We will be taking on all comers in 2yrs. Signed, Bonita Frosh.

    Aram thats a nice photo.

  • wesco fan

so is this QB from bonita better than the QB from glendora and better than the QB from Rowland is he a better runner or does he have better recivers. what is Bonita biggest win so far im just asking i dont follow that school is it baldwin park or is it san dimas both VVL teams. it should be a good game when they come to west covina. im new to this sorry has west covina ever played Bonita.

  • Aaron

The entire program is doing extremely well right now at Bonita. Frosh are 5-0…destroying their opponents and JVs are 4-1…and then the Varsity are 5-0. Great year to be a Bearcat, Bearcat Alum, Bearcat Parent et al.

I was unable to sit at the phone this weekend and have my father give me play by play once a quarter with scoring updates but it’s nice to see that Garrett came out and did his thing.

Much respect to Greg Spathias for the way he has played the past five games and done everything and a bit more that was asked of him. I think the Bearcat running game is on a great track right now and the offense has been quite balanced.

  • Westco Fan

From one West Covina Fan to another, I’ll take George Johnson over any of those other Qb’s! Georgie’s a proven winner! Last time Bonita played West Covina was the first round of CIF in 2008. Final score: 28-18 West Covina. Winning quarterback? George Johnson. ’nuff said.

  • wildozer

Boy Howdy, did Wilson get lit up?

Wilson was pretty confident early on, having held Covina scoreless through one quarter and kicking a field goal to take the early lead.

Then came the quarterback change- 1 pass, 1 reception, 1 touchdown. About 70 yards in one bomb, most of it in the air. McClain can run. . . and catch!!!

You could see the deflation from their side of the field. . . 23-3 at the half, 36- 3 at the end of three.

  • Dan

Sounds like Bonita has a nice couple of years coming, I’m glad for that cause it makes our league that much more interesting, West Covina’s lower levels are doing ok too, JV’s undefeated and freshmen have a couple of losses but I heard they made some tweeks this past week on that freshman team and they looked much improved against Rowland freshmen, we’ll see how it works out the rest of the way. Pretty neat that your father does play by play for you on the phone for Friday night games whenever he can. Thanks for your service to our country, must be tough to not be able to do the Friday night lights thing.

  • Panther Fan

wesco fan – Last time West Covina played Diamond Ranch was the Semi-Final round of CIF in 2008. Final score: 39-7 Diamond Ranch. Losing quarterback? George Johnson. ’nuff said.

How many people here ever thought they would see a football Top 25 list without seeing the names South Hills and San Dimas on it?

  • Panther Fan

Colt74 – South Hills absence is temporary, they have a very tough schedule this yr. Once they beat Damien and Ayala who are in the top 25 then SH will be Back. Not sure about San Dimas at this point.

  • SaintsR4real

    Thanks for the compliment!!

  • Chino Hills Husky Fan

I have seen So. Hills…….They are in trouble. They will struggle in the Sierra league. I think the race is between Chino Hills, Claremont & Charter Oak. In my opinion, the game this week between Chino Hills and Claremont is for the league championship. I think Charter Oak is just a notch below these 2 teams. I think Damien is in real trouble. They are undersized and lacking at the skill positions. Ayala is very small and has few skill guys although their “D” might keep them in some games. Here is how I see the Sierra League ending up.
    1. Chino Hills
    2. Claremont
    3. Charter Oak
    4. Ayala
    5. Damien
    6. So. Hills

We will see how this plays out….should be exciting. The inland Division is all screwed up with preseason all world team Chapparal 1-4 , Santiago beat roosevelt who beat Norco. I think the only true favorite in this division is Centenniel.

  • Jeffrey

I don’t know if you are aware but Chino Hills is not in the San Gabriel Valley – SB County school

  • Jeffrey,

I don’t know if you know this, but I changed the borders. They’re in the SGV now. They’re in the Sierra League along with Claremont and Ayala … and Damien, Charter Oak and South Hills. There are tons of racks in both Claremont and Chino Hills where you can buy the Tribune, not to mention any 7-11.

  • SGV For 30 Years

Before we give this Bonita QB the tag of savior. Let’s remember who he returned against. DBar is not exactly known as the Monsters of the Midway. Seems like everyone’s offense gets healthy against them. Droppping 53 is impressive and that was a great tune up. Just don’t get those Innaugural Hacienda League Championship patches made yet. There are still much bigger and badder teams yet to play. I’m still sticking with the Bulldogs as the class of the league. This is not to say that they can’t be had.

    SGV$30 Ouuutt!

With defeat of Vista Murrieta by Crespi and Norco by unranked Roosevelt, the Inland Division took a hit in regards to rankings. Corona Centennial stays solid at #4 with Chino Hills entering for the first time at #25! They should be ranked ahead of Tesoro!

Out of the above ranked 25 teams, 12 belong to the Pac-5 which is a higher than usual number most seasons. This years Pac-5 playoffs will make national headlines.

  • Bohi booster

SGV. Bonita does,nt need a savior. We were 4-0 against good opposition with qb spathias. GP just makes us better. How much we will wait and see but my hunch is a lot better.

  • Stat watcher

It is amazing to me about Sierra Vista’s Stats. Did you know that this running team, that controls the clock, with all these great hard hitting players average 70+ solo tackles a game, and that does not include the assists that are well into the hundred plus after 5 games.(Check Maxpreps) I know someone who has film on them and their RB G.Rivera has significantly less carries and yardage in a couple of games that he has seen. Maybe he gets credit for running to the huddle too, and after penalties that are added on to the run like a face mask, and the penalties that are called and brought back they do not deduct. So sorry, I checked the film from Azusa and The View 358+ yards and 0 touch downs? You will see what I mean and tell me.

  • DRanchhhh

I’ll take the 14th place ranking. I like what panther fan said about that WC team but again I respect that WC team. Last time we saw them well, they were projected to beat us by 14 points. That was a team that had a monster line, Rick Johnson and a then sophmore QB named George Johnson. Now in 2010, they are projected to beat us again by probably 30 or more points. I’ll just say this…dont compare scores from the Walnut or DB game and “figure” its going to be an easy ride. I hear that WC has ALL of these weapons. You can only have 11 on the field at a time. I think WC and DR are about as evenly matched as they come. But we will not get that respect until we show up. So WC, hold that crown, when we meet, that will be a great game. BoHi is riding high now. Even over the last 3 years we have a fight with them constantly. I respect BoHi. They always have a QB and receivers on that team. We play both schools (WC and BoHi) after they play each other. So I am looking forward to an “usually-strong” finish by DR as we enter the playoffs.

I keep saying this, I dont think people understand just how strong DR is this year. Down 21-0 at the half, 35 points up in the half with 21 of those coming in the 4th qtr?? 41-0 DB?? lost by 7 to the number one team in the central DIVISION in elsinore?? Keep looking “DOWN” at us….

  • The Stang Fan

Aram, it might be time for a Top 10 Most Disappointing Teams of the season.

    1. Muir

I’m sure SH, Damien, and La Mirada will be in the mix, but none of them can touch the Stangs!!!

  • Dan

No one here looking down on DR., well aware of the talent over there, not 5 D1 players as in 08 but never the less you have at least 1 or 2. DR, Bonita, WC, Rowland, Walnut all interesting games with each other, might just go over to Ganesha on Saturday to check out DRanch vs Rowland. As for Panther fan putting the 08 game on G. Johnson, not true, it was more a combination of some key WC injuries and D Ranch having all those D1 studs that year, either way D Ranch probably wins that game but it would have been a lot more respectable if we had our two stud corners and linebacker.

  • billyb

    Stat watcher
You are so corret on SV. Azusa ran about 35 plays, but SV had over 50 solo tackles(wierd). On the other side of the ball they had about 200 yds. But they have one running back with 198? Must be new math.

  • valley guy

    hahaha top ten disappointing teams….
    well here’s my top 3
    1. muir…no one is more disappointing then them
    2. stangs….there not even going to win league or probably wont even make playoffs…
    3. john muir….have they even came close to winning after a giving win game against san grabriel..
i cant put any other team up there well maybe south number 4.

  • Panther Fan

Dan – I wasn’t putting the 08 game on G. Johnson. After seeing that WestCo fan was touting a winning G. Johnson for his performance against Bonita (Bonita by the way beat Diamond Ranch 17-7 in league that year) was the same G. Johnson who was QB when Diamond Ranch beat West Covina in the Semi-Final game 39-7. The 7 points that West Covina got against DR, was by a DR fumble recovered by WC at the WC 20 yrd line that was run back 80 yrds for a TD with about 2 minutes left in the game. West Covina just avoided being shut out. Just letting wesco fan know more of the story. Also Garrett Pendelton (Bonita’s 2010 Quarterback)was not the QB for Bonita in the 2008 games.

  • Dan

    Panther Fan,
Thomas Flores picked up that fumble and returned it to the house, one of the very few bright spots in that game, otherwise it was a very long night.

It’s all good! And besides….I KNOW that up until we play each other all of San Dimas is going to be a HUGE Covina fan!

  • JG

Fanther Fan, I think i speak for many WC fans in saying DR is has been and will continue to be a formidible foe, DR has shown that as the season progresses, teams cringe at the thought of playing them, solid program!! The thing about George Johnson and the WC team this year is that, this team is real coehesiveas as a unit, the timing of the offensive and defensive units have been on, George is running the offence real well, and with horses they have, they are really clicking. To Maggiore and the coaching staff EXCELLENT JOB!!!

  • Panther Fan

JG – I am very impressed with WC this year. I was impressed with them two years ago and was surprised on how easily DR handled them. This year is more exceptional from what I’ve been reading and hearing about WC, they are very much improved. It will be a great game when they play, I’m looking forward to it. WC is carrying the target on their backs this year.
