All-Encompassing SGV(N) Top 25 going into Week 9 …

West Covina at No. 2? Mikey likes it!

1. Bishop Amat (9-0) — Nice job, Lancers. Now take the week off.
2. West Covina (7-1) — Hangover effect vs. D-Ranch? We’ll see …
3. Claremont (7-1) — 9-1 and league champs would be nice resume for Inland playoffs
4. La Habra (5-3) — Highlanders don’t have a signature win, but rings will still be sweet
5. Chino Hills (6-2) — Huge game vs. CO will go a long way in the seeding dept.
6. Cantwell (7-1) — Still need help to pull off share of Del Rey title
7. Azusa (8-0) — Technically, Gladstone could ruin Aztecs’ dream season. Technically.
8. Whittier Christian (7-1) — Very much in the running to be Mid-Valley’s top seed
9. La Serna (7-1) – So, just how good is the Del Rio this year? Find out in mid-Nov.
10. Bonita (7-1) — As bad as WestCo loss, all hope isn’t lost for a league title
11. Covina (8-1) — Can Colts finish the job in the Valle Vista?
12. Monrovia (6-2) — Showed everyone exactly who the class of the RHL is
13. St. Francis (4-4) — Knights catapult into rankings with rout of St. Paul
14. Diamond Ranch (5-3) — Roddy has to love catching WestCo off of Bonita win
15. Glendora (5-3) — Shorthanded Tartans still way too much for Alta Loma
16. Charter Oak (5-3) — Chargers can get much-needed signature win vs. Chino Hills
17. St. Paul (5-3) — Swordsmen fighting for playoff lives after St. Francis loss
18. La Mirada (5-3) — Beat Mayfair by more than Lakewood, Chino Hills or Los Al did
19. Arroyo (7-1) — Is El Monte really good enough to dethrone Knights?
20. San Dimas (5-3) — Sneaky Saints can cause chaos in the VVL standings
21. Schurr (5-3) — No signature win yet, but that could come in playoffs
22. Arcadia (5-3) — Apaches are one of several mysteries in the Southeast Div.
23. Maranatha (6-3) — It would be shame if Minutemen didn’t get at-large bid
24. Muir (4-4) — Speaking of Southeast mysteries, Mustangs fit the bill perfectly
25. Damien (4-4) — Spartans can likely forget playoffs … unless they stun Claremont

  • FOOTBALL DAD

PEOPLE FROM SGV ARE HATING ON LA SERNA BECAUSE IT A WHITTIER TEAM BUT THEY ARE RANKED NUMBER 9 IN THE SGV TOP 25 AND I SEE A LOT OF THE SGV SCHOOL RANKED LOWER THEN LA SERNA. SO IF LA SERNA SUCK THAT BAD I GUESS MOST OF THE SGV TEAM SUCK EVEN MORE.THERE ONLY 5 TEAM IN SGV RANK HIGHER THEN LA SERNA IN THE TOP 25 BUT IN MAX PREP THERE ONLY TWO SCHOOL IN SGV RANK HIGHER THAT LA SERNA. GO LANCER

  • Schurr Fan

Aram, Schurr does have a signature win. It was vs. El Toro. If we would have lost that game we would have started 0-3. It was a sweet comeback to boot. El Toro is currently undefeated in the Sea View league (Div.6)…

  • bpbraves

how can you leave B.P.out when you gave them props.all season so far.remember the teams they have played, best in the sgv

  • Aaron

So WesCo hands us our lunch pale…but the Times doesn’t rank them, very nice of them.

  • Scholar, Athlete, Gentleman

    Football Dad,

Congratulations to your son on La Serna doing well and getting some respect in the press. I in no way want to diminish that but please allow me to humbly offer a little advice. Shouting (all or excessive caps)out and throwing challenges about what is going to happen will not bring anything but distain from most bloggers in this community. When the win does not happen you not only ruin your creditability, you damage the perception and reputation of the school. I am sure that you have encountered many other schools in the WDN area that are constantly on these blogs with how great they are and how they will beat anyone anytime. Win or Lose, all anyone thinks is obnoxious not respect. People will berate what you have done and be quick to disrespect when you fall.

The real truth is “the best” will work itself out on the field. If your son wins the ring, no one can take it away from him. I guarantee that it will be much sweeter when you savor the experience with dignity and humility answering the challenges with a simple win. Good luck in the rest of the season and I will be cheering on the Crimson and Gold, win or lose, for a (injury free) remainder of the year.

No, but Redlands East Valley, who Chino Hills beat is ranked 24. Interesting …

  • Colt74

In the grand scheme of things polls are like Origami. Not appreciated by all, took time and concentration to put together, then when done someone is going to show you
how they would have done it differently….

    Looks good to me though……

  • Hefe

    Cantwell ahead of Azusa??

    Oh Aram…you silly man.

    Azusa would smoke Cantwell.

  • Azusa Fans…BE CAREFUL!!!

    AT Hefe,

Besides being 8-0. The valley does not know anything about the AZtecs. To say that Azusa would smoke cantwell or anyone Ranked from #8-#18 may be biting off more than you can chew…Really think about what your are saying. What Game have you won in this year that would justify that statement? What game can we look at and say “Hey that was a tough game”! I have no problems saying that Azusa is a great team and having a great year, But just slow down ok. Comments like that are what makes sgv fans tell the honest truth.

    7. Azusa(8-0)
    8. Whittier Christian (7-1)
    9. La Serna (7-1)
    10. Bonita (7-1)
    11. Covina (8-1)
    12. Monrovia (6-2)
    13. St. Francis (4-4)
    14. Diamond Ranch (5-3)
    15. Glendora (5-3)
    16. Charter Oak (5-3)
    17. St. Paul (5-3)
    18. La Mirada (5-3)

  • http://www.insidesocal.com/sgvfootball Aram

I have said in the past that No. 7 is Azusa’s ceiling until they beat another truly good team.

  • Aram don’t worry

You have been more than kind with a top ten ranking. Being number 7 Azusa fans should be in heaven. But anyway Azusa”has yet” Nation as in has yet to play anyone…. enjoy your ranking until round 2 of the playoffs.

  • 10-0 is not a dream Season. Cleaning up the Mid Valley thought process this year!

Azusa fans, keep repping you team. Every one of us with top seeded Midvalley teams do the same thing lol… I will be the first to say..Azusa is a great team this season and and they are on the top of everyones Feel good story. I am not sure what is going on these days, but isn’t 14-0 and dream season? I mean you have to go 10-0 to go 14-0, but the top teams in the midvalley risked their perfect seasons to be battle tested. They did this because everyone knew the mid valley would be tough as nails this year! Monrovia, San Dimas, Covina, BP,Whittier Christian all took thier lumps, and lost their perfect seasons, but they learned something about their teams. Hell Azusa has not face a team with one good QB or WR, or notable Running back… I am not sure anyone says “Hey I want to go 10-0 and lose in the playoffs”… Undefeated in preseason and league don’t get your name on CIF Trophy. Please ask the writers to Stop saying 10-0 is your dream season. What about all the teams that lost a game or two, and won CIF? Lets just say that dream seasons are when a team holds up CIF Championship Trophy. Any thing else just hurts for a long time. Just ask monrovia, Ranked#1 all last year 13-1. Winning games, blowing people out, High siding. It was all smoke and mirrors. They were not tested until the last 2 games. They Barely got by whittier Christian, but got snuffed out by San Dimas. They would have traded their record for San Dimas’s Title. I am just saying… Aram and Fredj would be helping Azusa more, by giving them a # 13 ranking in polls…Then at least they would have a chip on their shoulders, and they might have pulled off a title run. But with all this feel good, 10-0 perfect season stuff, they have really mixed some dangerous kool Aid for that camp, because you know you created a overated team, and when the top teams like Monrovia, Covina, and San Dimas come hunting in playoffs….oooowee… We are going to see what they are made of. 9 players going both ways…. The Fake cheers, and roars against crippled oppenents are going to cease! Absolutely no one in valley is paying attention to Azusa’s “Race to 10-0.” Because everytime you mention that story, some one is going to ask “who did they play?” and Someone will answer “it doesn’t matter baby, They are, or We are 8,9, 10-0.” I have seriously been at several Midvalley games and I did mention the Aztecs were good! And Every time someone asked me who did they play. I went I said Bell Gardens and La Puente. They said “Exactly”.Everyone will be interested in Azusa when it comes to time to play their 3 game of the season. The Valle Vista is where it’s at…Right now. The Covina vs San Dimas game will effect the Mid Valley playoffs in a major way…Aztecs are#1 for now, But I would say Psuedo #1. I know A aztec fan is going to say…I am hating, or “Keep winning baby”. Deep down in your heart, you know.. “you have no Idea how good your team is!!!” Make me eat my words!

  • Rankings From SGV fan.

There is only one team in the wrong spot, and that is the Aztecs. They should not be in the top ten. Honestly, they are about the 4 best team in their division, behind Covina, Monrovia, Whittier Christian…They are good! But #7 is a bit high. Id start the midvalley rankings at #11.Covina, #12 Monrovia #13. Whittier Christain 14. Azusa. You would have to base this on Record, head to head, and who did they beat. Azusa’s resume just isn’t strong enough…Sorry guys.

  • valley guy

    LOL
Maranatha ranked above Muir thats got to be a joke and West Covina above Claremont smh…and come on La Habra still in the top 5 man these are some bias rankings. all i can say is im glad they mean nothing……

  • SGV For 30 Years

    Aram,

How can you not have Walnut in your top 25? I see Covina is #11 Walnut beat them. Rowland was in the top 25 all season. The Mustangs beat them. Their losses have been to West Covina-It was a very competitive game. Bonita-Hot team on the road. Claremont-Well they got blown out there. Diamond Ranch-Overtime could have gone either way. You had the Mustangs finishing next to last in your pre-season Hacienda League rankings. Now it looks like they are going to make the play-offs. You even called them lowly Walnut at one point this season. You are and have been a Walnut hater and everyone in Mustangland knows it. Maybe just maybe it’s time for you to give them some respect.

    SGV430 Outtt!!!

    Aram,

Looking at your to 25 list. Here is a team that I think you might want to start giving some respect to. Walnut should at the very least be considered. They beat Covina (#11) earlier this season, and they just beat Rowland (ranked as high as 6 earlier this season). Their losses have been to West Covina (played them as tough as anyone has in league), Bonita (They were the hot team), Diamond Ranch (Double OT), and Claremont (looks like they are going to win the Sierra). You had them picked to finish second to last in the Hacienda League. You even called them “lowly Walnut” at one point this season. Now it looks like the Mustangs are going to make the play-offs. They physically beat Rowland down last week and knocked Ball out of the game. You have always been a Walnut hater and everyone in Mustangland knows it.

    SGV430 Ouuuut!!!!!
