Colorado makes West Covina RB/S Chris Solomon his first offer …

Tribune Player of the Year and West Covina RB/S Chris Solomon received his first college offer this week from Colorado.

Solomon is being recruited as a safety and that’s where the Buffs want him. Solomon rushed for 1,790 yards last season and 20 touchdowns. On defense, he had 83 tackles, three caused fumbles, two fumble recoveries and two interceptions.

Aram’s take: There should be more to come, but not bad to have Colorado this early.

  • X’s and O’s

Congratulations Mr. Solomon. I believe that your toughness and athleticism will take you far and that you’ll have a very successful college career. Imagine how good this kid will be as a senior.

Moving on. I’m bored so I’m making my own list of the top returning qb’s for the 2011 season. This list is in no particular order:

Steven Rivera, Arroyo- Doctors have recently discovered that this young man’s heart is made of 50% pigskin! He’s an athletic leader, true football player, and knows the game as well as anyone. The Knights will need to find a supporting cast, but they’re in good hands with Rivera at the helm. Coach Singiser will be missing him in 2012.

Andrew Elfers, Maranatha- This boy can sling the rock. Obviously a DI prospect who can move as well. Add an energetic young HC and a proven OC to work with him and Maranatha will be a scary offense.

Travis Santiago, Charter Oak- He knows how to manage a game and lead the troops. He has been doing it since he was a sophomore and the Faraars will probably unleash him this year with Scoby opening up the pass.

Billy Linvgston, Covina- This is a very underrated qb in my opinion. I think he could possibly have some offers if he were a bit bigger. Probably doesn’t pass the “eye test,” but he does pass the test on the gridiron where it counts.

Sean Kennedy, San Dimas- Yes, I understand that he was injured for pretty much the entire season, but he did lead the Saints to a CIF title as a sophomore. I also saw him on the diamond which made me realize that he is a true all-around athlete.

Kevon Seymour, Muir- Probably won’t be the official starting QB, but opposing defenses will need to know where he is lined up at all times. This kid is scary in the open field.

Andrew Chavez, Chino Hills- He put up some pretty nice numbers last season. Definitely has good presence in the pocket, but like Rivera, he is losing his top two receivers.

Cesar Carillo, Diamond Ranch- Struggled as a junior, but can move in the pocket and has a decent arm. Roddy also does a great job in motivating his players. Does he have the potential to be Gus Viramontes?

Henry Omana, Diamond Bar- He probably won’t be sharing time with anyone this year and will have the keys to the Brahma’s offense. Omana has all the tools; size, arm strength, accuracy, and footwork.

Myles Carr, Arcadia- He’s already a good qb by his own merit, but add in the fact that he has the luxury of throwing to Taylor Lagace and you realize that this kid will put up some numbers.

Joshua Mendoza, Alhambra- I just saw his video on the Mid Valley and I really liked it.

??????, Bonita- Chavez, Parades, and then Pendleton. I don’t know who will replace Pendleton, but I have no doubt that Coach Podley (aka the Master of the QB) will build a good one into his spread offense. Bonita is becoming a QB factory.

and last but definitely not least

Rio Ruiz, Bishop Amat- It’s no secret that this kid is probably the best athlete in the SGV. This will probably be his last season of suiting up in the armor of pads and I am positive that he will compete his butt off; it’s just the way he does it.

  • Aaron

Great for Chris, great speed. I’d like to see Maggiore have him pound hard through the tackles more…and I know that’s asking for a lot because it’s on film that he’s done it.

  • Dan

Thats great news for Chris Solomon, the young man works hard not only during games but every day in practice, from what I’ve seen, he is a lead by example type of teammate. West Covina will have a target on their back, other teams will be gunning for the Bulldogs with a revenge factor on their minds, as a team they will have to bond close and work even harder this coming season.

  • Dan

    Aram,
Chris Solomon actually had over 1900 yards last season but the Max Prep stats page is not completly updated.

  • Coach Slayer

It seems obvious that Mr. Aram has either been kicked upstairs or downstairs. There seems to be little interest in keeping this blog fresh and interesting. It is very stale like the blogs in the other Tribune papers. Too Bad!!! Maybe you should just close it down until September or put somebody who is willing to put some time in. • Speaking of Colorado – JR Nelson

Adam Gorney the west coast anaylst for Rivals.com did an article today of JR Nelson’s 2 day visit to Colorado football

    Oops!! Speaking of Colorado (2)

Ever heard of “cut and paste”?

  • Dear scissors

thought of that but Aram would probably have to delete it for copyright reasons since it is subscription based.

In essence the coaches really liked the hilite tape as one of the best they have seen and JR was able to be on the field with the wr’s for both practices. He also got to spend time with their two star receivers.

JR is on Coach Kennedy’s highest “small circle group” for receiver consideration. JR was also impressed by the track and field coaches who were also very excited about him being there. Adam Gorney will also interview JR on Sunday at the USC NIKE camp.

  • sfhs92

heard taylor legace from arcadia picked up an offer from washington to go with his one from boise.

  • R YA NEUTERED?

    Dear scissors

This is 2011. Copyrights mean nothing anymore. And believe me, Aram won’t give a rats a$$.

  • For Dan
  • NIKE / USC

Don’t know who else was there but I did see E. McCarthy, Chris Solomon, Taylor Lagacy, JR Nelson, Myles Carr, and Andrew Fisher representing the SGV area at the USC competition today, they all performed very very well, should be a good senior class next year

  • Dan

    To “for Dan”,
Thanks for the update on Solomon.

  • Ctown

from what i have been hearing billy has been getting interest from Boise St. along with several IV League schools

    GOODLUCK from your COVINA FAMILY

  • Dear CTown

you might want to get word to B Livingston that the ESPN Elite 11 QB competition will be here in LA in mid May if he isnt already part of it. It is invite only but the coaches can sure check it out for him.

Chad Jefferies was part of it last year and got some exposure that helped. The QB’s must bring their own receivers with them. Livingston of course has Vinny but ESPN puts on the NIKE camps and already know about receivers like Nelson and Fisher and Elite doesnt care where the receivers come from, but they need to be fast and catch everything thrown their way

  • Elite 11 QB stuff

to whoever is interested in B Livingston:

From ESPN RISE: “High school juniors interested in being considered for the Elite 11 event are encouraged to workout at an Elite 11 regional camp, which begin in March. There they will receive advanced, one-on-one quarterback instruction. Top performers will earn a spot in the final Elite 11 event in July in Southern California. The event will be covered by ESPN and ESPNRISE.com.

To secure a spot in one of the 2011 camps, prospective quarterbacks can send in a highlight DVD to be evaluated or have their coach recommend them as a top level QB prospect.

The final quarterbacks will be selected after thorough tape evaluation, a telephone interview and an in-person workout at either a Nike Football Training Camp or an Elite 11 regional camp.”

the CA Elite 11 regional is on May 13, so dont even think about Fisher and Nelson, they will be competing against each other that day in the 300m hurdles and 400m at CIF track meet

Went to see the WC girls Softball team this week and got a chance to talk with some of the kids from the football team. Lots of good news as I found out B.J. Lee was offered a football and track scholarship to University of New Mexico, He was in Albuquerque [spelling?] this past weekend visiting the campus. Defensive End Justin Meaders was also offered a scholarship to either Arizona or Arizona ST. I can’t remember which but it’s one of the two.
A few weeks ago I was also told that Left Guard John Logan got a football scholarship to Whittier College [As a kid growing up in Whittier I always thought it would be neat to go there] and center Mark Laffin was going to a small university back East or in the Midwest to play ball.
Just trying to keeping you guy’s current on the latest in Bulldog country. Over and out, lol.
