La Puente coach Brandon Rohrer staying put … Is Quinsey in a race by himself for Glendora job?

La Puente head coach Brandon Rohrer has pulled out of the running to become the next head coach at Glendora.

Rohrer, a Glendora alum, was a finalist along with Charter Oak assistant Todd Quinsey after a round of interviews conducted last week. With Rohrer’s defection, that should mean the job is Quinsey’s for the taking.

“I am officially out of the running,” Rohrer said Monday afternoon. “I pulled my name late last week. I’m very excited about what we have coming back at La Puente and part of me feels like our job is still not done.”

“It was getting late in the game. It was about time we pulled our name out. A lot of the credit goes to the administration at La Puente because they wanted to keep us and they’ve done a lot of stuff to help us retain some coaches.”

Aram’s take: It’s looking good for Quinsey, which means it’s looking good for running backs Corey Victoria and Donovan Holmes if Quinsey runs the same style of offense he ran at Northview.

Glendora decision expected this week …

I spoke to Glendora principal Coach Paul Lopez on Friday afternoon and he said a decision regarding who will be the next Tartans varsity football head coach should be made this week.

Lopez would not confirm that the process is down to two — La Puente coach and Glendora alum Brandon Rohrer and Charter Oak assistant Todd Quinsey — but I stand by it.

Lopez did the say the school was dragging its feet due to the budget situation and the constraints it puts on a teaching position to go with the football job.

One of the best days of my life: McCourt OUT as Dodgers owner …

IT’S GOT NOTHING TO DO WITH FOOTBALL, BUT NEITHER DOES THE AIR WE BREATHE. HOWEVER, IT’S JUST AS IMPORTANT!

NEW YORK – Major League Baseball is taking the extraordinary step of assuming control of the Los Angeles Dodgers, a team increasingly paralyzed by the bitter divorce of owners Frank and Jamie McCourt.

Once among baseball’s glamour franchises, the Dodgers have been consumed by infighting since Jamie McCourt filed for divorce after 30 years of marriage in October 2009, one week after her husband fired her as the team’s chief executive. Frank McCourt accused Jamie of having an affair with her bodyguard-driver and performing poorly at work.

Selig told Dodgers owner Frank McCourt that he will appoint a representative to oversee all aspects of the business and the day-to-day operations of the club.

“I have taken this action because of my deep concerns regarding the finances and operations of the Dodgers and to protect the best interests of the club,” Selig said Wednesday in a statement.

Aram’s take: Among Frank’s accomplishments as owner of the greatest franchise in sports include: Raising parking from $10 to $15 (and lying about all the great benefits that would come from it), letting his (our) ballpark turn into a hangout for thugs, trading degenerate gambler and 30-something female favorite Paul LoDuca, signing idiot Manny Ramirez and of course his divorce from Wifey McCourt, who was too busy knocking boots with her bodyguard to keep her husband’s head on straight. Glad you’re gone!

Damien fans want it, they got it … this is La Bufadora in El Monte …

Fish tacos aren’t just reserved for Fridays.

So there I was in line at La Bufadora in El Monte (right near Arroyo HS), getting my fish taco AND shrimp burrito when I hear a voice behind me say “Are you gonna put this on your blog?” The man introduced himself as a Damien fan and In the Huddle reader, and said he liked the Damien topics. Who doesn’t, right? Anyway I can’t figure out what shocked me more, being spotted in El Monte or being spotted by a Damien fan in El Monte.

About the grub: Look, the real reason for me going is the shrimp burrito and if you haven’t had one, I suggest you do. The fish tacos at this place are solid, but they do not stack up to Taco Nazo in BP. Not even close.

Source: Glendora DOWN TO TWO …

The vacant Glendora High School varsity head football coach job is down to two candidates after a round of interviews last week, according to a source.

The decision is between current La Puente head coach Brandon Rohrer, a Glendora alum, and current Charter Oak assistant Todd Quinsey, who had a strong run at Northview before leaving the state for another job before the 2006 season.

There will be another round of interviews this week with a decision expected Friday.

Aram’s take: Here’s what it comes down to despite what misinformation is out there, Jerry Lewallen has already backed out of the running. He interviewed last week, but opted out soon after. Rohrer will take the position if former coach Mark Pasquarella finds another job elsewhere, thus clearing a math teaching position (which is what Rohrer currently credentialed in). According to a member of the hiring panel, Quinsey had a intricate plan for the program and impressed the panel enough to make some people in the room feel that he’s frontrunner. If Pasquarella doesn’t leave, Quinsey would be the obvious fit because the teaching position would be good for only a year with no guarantees beyond that. So why would Rohrer leave a stable spot at La Puente? Stay tuned …
