Monrovia Principal Darvin Jackson issues brief statement on De’Shawn Ramirez situation …

“Out of respect for the family and at their requiest, I’m going to make a brief statement. De’Shawn Ramirez and his family will spend the weekend deciding on which school he wishes to attend.”

Aram’s take: Short and sweet. Jackson refused to answer any questions. You get what you get sometimes. We’ll see what happens, but it sounds like he has the option to play at Monrovia (just a guess from reading between the lines).

    The fact that he was practicing with Arcadia tells me that he’s already an Apache. That whatever benchmarks were made for him to achieve in relation to his character have not been met.

    Wow just a few things….
    1. It is so mind blowing how crazy this whole thing has gotten. As a Monrovia fan of course I would love to see old 27 back in Monrovia GREEN AND WHITE but my heart is also with whatever decision he or his family makes ACADEMIC wise.
    2. Deshawn, if you are reading….. The gift that you have is something that any kid in the game today would Sell the farm for. Please take this 2nd chance as a gateway of your future Success. Being a SCHOLAR ATHLETE is the formula to being a Winner in life, hit it hard in the classroom and play hard on the field and see how easy everything else will come into place.
    3. This whole Monrovia, Arcadia thing is so out of control, either he is already playing for Arcadia or not! How is he allowed to play on one team one week and than given the option to make a decision over the weekend where he wants to play and go go school next season. According to Ara0m if we read between the lines he basically has the option now to play for either team! ARE YOU KIDDING ME….. This is not College, unless he lives now in Arcadia he should not be going to that school just like any other student. He lives in Monrovia, who ever he lives with pays Monrovia Taxes He should go to MHS… And this whole thing that Monrovia is not safe is complete Bull, Monrovia is a great School, it is up to Deshawn to make the best of it both in the class and on the field, only he can let something happen to get him kicked off of the team either if he is a Wildcat or Apache.
    4. Last but not least, how come nobody is making a documentery about this. This story should be filmed, if Deshawn continues on the path of greatness he will continue on to the next level!1

    I spoke with CIF spokesperson Thom Simmons AT LENGTH about this situation yesterday. Practicing with another team is SAFE during the summer period DURING WHICH CIF HAS NO GOVERNANCE.

    He does not have to be a student at Arcadia to practice with them and CAN go back to Monrovia at any time.

    As far as his transfer, if you read my article in today’s paper (can you read?) you will see an explanation of the rules regarding Ramirez’s eligibility. Here, let me help you since I wouldn’t want you to strain what few brain cells you actually have …

    “According to CIF rules, Ramirez would be eligible to play at Arcadia since he hasn’t played in the past 12 calendar months, but there must be no pending disciplinary action against him at another school and he must maintain 20 semester periods of work (a full load of classes) and be progressing toward graduation.

    Ramirez is allowed to practice at the school of his choosing during the summer period, over which CIF has no governance.”

Kid is not enrolled at Arcadia – Arcadia coaches can have no contact/relationship with the kid AT ALL – EVER – before he enrolls at the school. If they due – undue influence comes into play and he is ineligible AT Arcadia. Nothing was ever mentioned about going back to Monrovia. Who can’t read?

The other coach had the audacity to SHUT UP during the process with a simple NO answer and no comment. MY OPINION as a BLOGGER was just that… my opinion. You being embarrassed to as if we are roommates? Do you need a tissue as well from Tito Jackson… GROW UP and get your $5 back from Aram so we can NOT leave him alone.     There is no doubt that which ever school Ramirez goes to, that team will be better. Arcadia would like to see Him at their school, which gives them the best chance to beat Monrovia again and go further in Playoffs. If he does not go there, they have no chance of beating mtown, and will not get past the 2nd rd. Monrovia does need this kid. If he comes back, we will beat Arcadia really bad, and will be a shoe in for the finals. However we still can beat arcadia without Ramirez, and still go to finals without him. We have tons of Talent. Arcadia, should be concerned on the state of the program. They are no longer producing players year end and out. Where as Monrovia has been producing home grown players for years, win or lose. We been supplying teams throughout the valley with our talent. Schools like Charter Oak, Covina, and now Arcadia maybe. We never go out and look for kids…We play with what we have. That what makes us Mtown! If we did not lose player after player over the years, we would have several titles instead of one. We love Ramirez, people in this community have supported and coached this kid, since he was a cub. If he decides to go to arcadia, We wish him the best. It won’t put a kink in what Monrovia is doing. It will only affect one game. We will be making a title run regardless.

    He must also realize that arcadia does not care about him. They just want him there because of what he do for them. If he was average or did not play sports, then they would not be interested and the district would not admit this kid. Besides, whoever the starting guy is at arcadia, will not play at all, basically deshawn is taking someone’s spot over there. Talk about loyalty, this coach is screwing whomever was the RB coming up throw the program. If deshawn does not go to arcadia, then he will hand their starter the job back. That kid is probably pissed right now…That sends the message that you can go through arcadia’s program earn a spot, but as soon as a troubled kid with talent from another school, is available, the coaches will go after him.

    Deshawn if you go to monrovia you will have a ring. If you go to arcadia you won’t. Arcadia is not good enough to win a ring. Even if they were in the midvalley they would not win. They couldn’t beat Monrovia. If you go to monrovia, you will be seen by all the scouts watching McCarthy. Also If Monrovia goes undefeated you could be playing at Home depot for a state title game, quiet as kept. Can Arcadia offer that?

    Don’t believe the hype, who is going to block for you at arcadia? They have a two good players, Carr and Lagace, and no Defense. If you stay home, you will be playing with McCarthy, Craft, Frazier, Bryant, Williams, Harris a host of others and the #1 D in west SGV. Don’t let these people fool you….You belong in Mtown! Thats the best fit for you. You are a Monrovian!

    It is really sad that you do not know even the simplest of the rules as they pertain to CIF and high school sports. AEF at Arcadia has nothing to do with eligibilty as an officially enrolled student at the school.

    Each time you respond/open your mouth you make yourself appear even dumber than you really are. I didn’t think that was possible but you take it to a new level (lower) each and every time.

    It is a sad state of affairs that a reporter, and I use that term in your case as loosely as it possibly can be, can spew the kind of crap you do on such a regular basis without any knowledge, ethics, or class.

    Why not try and report on prep sports football? Isn’t that what you are supposed to do? That is to say go out, research a story, and produce it. Stop throwing out rumor, hints, and innuendo. At this point you have no credibility.

    You are truly the lowest of the low. Your only objective in life is to get hits on some meaningless small city newspaper blow. That is sad. Perhaps one day you will realize a better purpose in life and try and do some thing good for the kids you carelessly smear, degrade, embarrass, and undeservingly place in the public eye where it is not warranted.

    I’m a Monrovia fan and I’ve been around the community for a long time. I know coach Maldonado over at Arcadia. He is a good man. In fact he’s probably one of the few people that genuinely care about DeShawn beyond football. He’s been there for DeShawn year round since he was a lot younger, unlike some people who only checks up on DeShawn when football season comes around. So before you start bashing coach Maldonado, KNOW your facts. Again, he is a good man.
