Damien QB saga takes a turn: Sophomore Gage Pucci to get the start for Spartans on Thursday against Chaffey …

Damien will start sophomore QB Gage Pucci on Thursday night when the Spartans visit Chaffey.

Pucci played the entire second half last week after senior starter Enrique Zaldivar was benched at halftime for being ineffective. Pucci wasn’t much better, but technically threw what proved to be the clinching touchdown on a 54-yard swing pass to Jalen Castille.

I say technically because it was pretty much a dump off to Castille, who did all the dirty work down the Diamond Ranch sideline before getting in the paint. It was Pucci’s only completion in five attempts. He was also intercepted (on his second throw).

Zaldivar was 3 of 10 for 30 yards and two interceptions in the first half.

Aram’s take:
Neither QB got it done vs. D-Ranch, but a lot of that could be that D-Ranch is pretty darn talented and has a nice, athletic defense. But here’s the thing, if the Spartans can’t throw it better, they’re in deep trouble. Coach Gano is no dummy; he’s got Pucci for three more years and Zaldivar for three more months. We all know that coaches will often take their lumps with a young QB by playing them as sophs so that the experience pays off for the next two years. That could be what’s going on here. Pucci is Damien’s QB of the future and the future could be now if Zaldivar doesn’t step it up. At any rate, I would expect another quick hook by Gano on Thursday if Pucci isn’t cutting it against Chaffey.

  • BS

    WAIT!

Let me make sure I understand. I have a kid who has been in the program for 4 years and he has a bad game and is replaced by another kid who also had a bad game and has been in the program for 2 months.

That’s why Damien’s program is where it is. Sounds like Gano had this planned all along and was just looking for an opportunity to make it look fair. Only problem is Pucci played just as bad as Zaldivar in the 1st game.

It would be different if Pucci beat out the Senior, but that didn’t happen.

This is EXACTLY why football players don’t go to Damien. There are too many hidden agendas and behind the scenes activities.

    Way to go Gano!

  • You have it wrong

BS your BS is why players don’t go to Damien.

    Parents who undmind coaches.

As for the QB situation it seems clear from an outsider. Damien was 30% completion last year and the first half was just about the same.

You can wun many game completeing 3 of 10 passes.

Just look at maxpreps and no emotion is requied

  • Do The Math

I think that’s his point. According to Aram, Pucci’s completion percentage is 20%. 30% is not good, but it’s better than Pucci’s 20%.

  • no step

    Do The Math,

E.Z.’s only problem is that he throws off of his back foot and the ball sails. This can be corrected, but I doubt if the coaches even see it.

So, if you can’t pass, you have to run, but they can’t run, either.

Couple this with a defense that is tactically unsound due to defensive ends charging up field, opening huge vertical holes off tackle thereby leaving 5 interior gaps to be defended by only 4 defenders, well, it’s going to be a long season. Again.

  • DamienParent

Pucci is the best we’ve got, so shut the hell up or stay home on friday nights. Where were you during the spring and summer when the kids were training? Do you buckle up the chin strap on fridays? Do you prefer that we keep failing with who we got now? Amat is over there feeling pretty sorry for themselves right now after getting their butts kicked by Servite. We have to get ready now. And leave the defense alone. They worked very hard in the summer also.

  • no step

    Damien Parent,

It has nothing to do with the kids. They work hard but the only thing they can do is what the coaches teach them. That’s where the problem lies, not on whether this kid or that kid plays here or there, it’s what they’re taught. If you’re taught to something ineffective, it doesn’t make any difference how well you do it, it won’t get the job done.

If you think that Damien can survive the pre season, or the league for that matter, you’re living in la-la land.

  • Anonymous

Damien is 1-0 and top 10 in SGV. Whatever Gano is doing, it’s work so far. Let him coach, and you cheer. Geesh.

  • Concerned Parent

Good Point. Instead of making the hasty change to a sophomore QB that actually did worse than the starter, try fixing the problem. Gano does seem to have an agenda. The team looked confused the whole night.

If we think that we can compete with Amat, or Charter Oak this year, we are kidding ourselves. At this point, I think next Friday, the 23rd, will be a long night. And unless we get to the root of the problem, the season won’t be what we thought it would be.

Call me what you will, but I know what I saw Friday, and this team could not beat last year’s team.

  • Relax

All the nay sayers need to relax. It’s only been one game people. All first games are rusty. Damien has a bunch of new faces, and gelling is going to take a few games.

We have a game this Friday that should allow us to be more aggressive and creative with our offense. I know Chaffey is our weakest opponent, but those games help to get the rust out.

The Amat game will be the true measure of where our program is. If we get walloped again, then it’s fair to say that we still have a long way to go. But if we beat, or at least give Amat a real game, then I say Gano is getting closer to his goal. I know Amat is down this year, but they are still the team to dethrone as the SGV best.

So for now, relax, one game doesn’t show who we are yet. Let’s wait a few more before we rip into our coaches and eachother. Aren’t we all rooting for the same team?

  • The U

I think I told you this would happen a month ago…Pucci is better than Zaldivar already and has 3 1/2 years less in the system…..Get over it

  • AMAT 73

    Damien parent,
Don’t know where you get you info but no one at AMAT is feeling sorry for themselves. We faced the best team in CIF and possibly Ca. and plain out got beat, handled , or whatever you want to call it . That was last week and we will learn from it and move on. You see no bickering from us or calling for Hag’s head as you do from the Damien people. Stick with what you know , Damien, and the problems you are having with your coach’s decision as it looks like many of you are getting fed up with what you are seeing on the field so early in the season . I have never seen the towel get thrown in so soon in the season and especially when your team is 1-0.

  • Keep Closing your eyes!

    “Anonymous said:
Damien is 1-0 and top 10 in SGV. Whatever Gano is doing, it’s work so far. Let him coach, and you cheer. Geesh.”

Keep closing your eyes…LOL. They barely beat a sub par Diamond Ranch Team that was easily beaten by Chino!

Yep….they looked like a well oiled machine…..hmmm, NOT! Their 2 saviors from div.15 paraclete had 3 carries for a total of -11 yards.

Both QB”S looked horrible….I still don’t see all they hype that you guys are heaping on them. They look like the same old Damien team. They will get thumped by Amat, Chino Hills, and Charter Oak…they will be fighting and clawing for a playoff berth. So much for all of those “talented” transfers.

  • Stop the BMW!

Smells like Corona around here. Same old parents bitching, moaning and whining, thinking they know better than the Coach. I’ll stick with the guys with the rings.

  • The game Has Passed Gano By….

“Smells like Corona around here. Same old parents bitching, moaning and whining, thinking they know better than the Coach. I’ll stick with the guys with the rings”

When was the last time Gano won a ring? He hasn’t done squat at Damien. There is no way he should not be making the playoffs. He has gone back to his old ways…recruiting…and that doesn’t seem to be helping him out. I am not a parent, but do coach in the Sierra League….we look forward to our games with Damien!

  • Thor

Aram, could please write a piece on Damien everyday, very entertaining.

  • Keep it real

Amat73 don’t act as if your above bickering or being overally crtical of a coach because your not. There were plenty of post about coaching and support in your current lose.
The reason this stuff is being hashed out on the blog with Damien is because the program is in transition. People who are use to see kids play just because they are sr and not adjusting well so they are attacking players and coaches on the blog. Sad but true.
Damien is fine they played 5 soph and 10-12 Jrs in their win. Will there be some tuff loses coming of course but the team is clearly better. How are the better there faster and they have more true players who understand the game. They will struggle because there size but that is coming.
Things are headed in the right directions.

  • X’s and O’s

“no step” and “The game has Passed Gano By,”

Please inform all of us idiotic and ignorant people what exactly it is that Gano should be teaching? How should he structure his practice? What blocking techniques should his o-line should be using? And for that matter what kind of run blocking schemes and pass protections should their offense use?

You say their defensive ends are charging up the field, which sounds like they’ve implemented a “box technique” if they were to squeeze really tight off the EMOLOS then they would be implementing the “spill technique” which is obviously what you want. There are both positives and negatives to each.

Trust me when I say you bloggers don’t know the intricacies of this wonderful game so you have no idea what you’re talking about so get off of Gano’s back. Take this from someone who played the game at the college level.

  • Parents Suck!

The problem with Damien does not lie in the coaching, players, league or schedules…it lies with the pyscho parents that can be found on the boards, in the parking lot getting drunk before games and then yelling like a bunch of ignorant wannabe coaches from the stands on Friday nights.

People need to chill out and let the players play and coaches coach…if you don’t like it then yank your kid out and save yourself $6k a year and go stick him where he belongs. The $6k ain’t a free ticket to talk crap…a lot of the parents just need a good old beat down, especially those that have never stepped foot on a damn field other than to take a pic of you and your kid during parent night.

  • http://www.insidesocal.com/sgvfootball Aram

    Thor,

    I probably could, but I won’t.

    Everybody else,

I thought Damien looked improved talent-wise. I know this is hard for an Inland Division team’s fans to get their heads around, but some of Damien’s struggles might be because D-Ranch is actually pretty talented. D-Ranch got FOUR starters back for the Damien game who didn’t play vs. Chino. And Roddy is a very, VERY savvy coach. If he’s out-manned, he WON’T let his team piss the game away. He will play it tight and conservative and wait for the other guy to brick it. Didn’t he do that in the semis vs. South Hills?

Now, if D-Ranch and Bonita (in the scrimmage) can give Damien’s offense fits, then yeah, that doesn’t bode well for when CO and Chino Hills come calling. But I expect the Spartans to gradually improve. The talent level compared to last year is better … or should I say the speed is better.

I get it, this is Damien. Simply beating the teams you’re supposed to doesn’t cut it. But when Coach Gano and his staff start losing games they shouldn’t, then you’ve got a point. Call me when Damien has D-1 talent and is losing game in spite of it. That’s not gonna happen. Things are steadily getting better.

  • Mr. Coit

Anyone wanna beat Gano has the cleanest carpets in town? That father is a embarassment.

  • AMAT 73

    Keep it real,
My main problem was the line by Damien parent that AMAT is feeling sorry for themselves due to the loss to Servite. That could not be further from the truth as that was last week and in the past.We have played plenty of big games of that caliber and won some and lost some but never feeling sorry for ourselves. I have said we will learn from that loss and go on .I have yet to see one of the Faithful asking for Hags head on a platter , have you , if so please point out the post to me. As far as being critical of a coach in no way am I above that as I was very vocal on our previous coach and his lack of experience and not being the right man for the job , look it up it’s there . I did say in my post I have never seen this type of displeasure so early and especially with your team being 1-0 . But maybe the Damien people expected a quicker turnaround with Gano then they are seeing. Something is up because as many have pointed out it is starting to look like the days of FC and a few others back in the Morrison days. I for one would love to see an upswing and Damien join the Serra where they really belong and we would have a 6 team league and get rid of that bye week .

  • Real Damien Fan

What I’m not getting is why settle on Pucci? Watched many practices, very skilled player, no doubt. Watched the game and what I saw is not to far off from what is being written. He was 20%. EZ was 30%. Both had a poor showing. Could be first game jitters. Maybe. The arguement could be made that he is a sophomore and that time needs to be vested in the younger QB. That’s a legit arguement. However, time won’t add height. Not dissing, or putting the kid down. He couldn’t take a snap from the center, see over the line, those are real concerns to any X’s and O’s. Will DHS really stand by that for three years? If they can work around it, then of course. As for coaching, you shouldn’t be banking on anybody unless they are producing. Regardless of class, parents, fans. It should be a competition each week. I am curious why Alfaro isn’t be considered. He is 6’4, and definitely doesn’t have the finese Pucci or Zaldivar has but he is an athlete who is used to being in game time situations. The situation also reads loud and clear. Any standout quarterbacks that are considering Damien (8th graders and transfers) need not apply.

Just my take but that is why the DHS fans are crying foul. Tonight, Pucci will shine and will give the coaches a reprieve. But its Chaffey. Enough said. Amat will show no mercy and its going to be ugly! The whole Damien/Pucci offense will be shuttle passes and handoffs. Amat will read it and snatch it up.

DHS parents do need to relax and see what unfolds. There are a lot of great arguements out there that only the coaches and kids can answer. Tonight DHS will win and there will be nothing to fight about. But take note Aram and Fred, your systems will crash after the Amat game. Guaranteed.

  • Gano Fan

    No Step and Concerned Parent:

What do you know? What credentials do you have to question anything that Gano, who has been coaching football for like 30 years and who has won 5 or 6 championships, does at Damien? Does he have an agenda? Yes, it is to put the team that HE and HIS staff think give HIS team the BEST chance to win.

If you think for a minute that there is anything else other than him and his staff trying to win and put the best team out there every Friday night then you are nuts. I played for Gano from the time I was a 10 year old basketball player, 12 year old baseball player and terribly skinny high school football player that peeked at 12 and Gano has NEVER done anything but try to coach hard everyday to prepare his teams to win.

From what I can tell right now, he just doesn’t have the talent, yet. Damien is young and will get better. If the parents would channel the negative energy and petty jealousy into something positive, the program will be so much better.

Stop ripping kids and naming names. These boys are teenagers, some being 15 years old for crying out loud. They are not 5th year college players who have been in the game for years and years, they are teenagers that are doing the best they can to compete. Let the coaches coach and let the players play and you haters, sour grapes, bitterman party of one and crappy parents that don’t know the difference between a cover 2 and a toilet seat cover cheer!

  • No Integrity

The only thing embarrassing is your personal attacks.
Who goes on a blog anonymously and berates a person continuously? You really have some issues that you should be dealing with because youre obsessed with the Pucci family.
You Mr. Tuff guy blogger are flat out lacking character and I can only hope you dont have any children of your own because you possess some really bad traits that you would inherently be passed onto your children. My guess is you probably do have a child which is why youre so concerned about the Pucci family otherwise you wouldnt have such a personal agenda. This has to be about envy.
Why not take your personal agenda up with Mr. Pucci directly. My guess is you wont because youre not man enough.
We have enjoyed getting to know the Pucci family specifically Mr. Pucci. He is always respectful and friendly. We wish his son and the rest of the Damien players the best of this week.

  • chino Hills fan

Boy….sure sounds UGLY in Damien-ville. I too was expecting to see a much improved Damien squad. I know everyone was counting on those kids from Paraclete to be the saviors, however, they are facing a much better level of competition and they really didn’t play that much last year. I just don’t see things changing this year. They better right the ship before league starts or it could be ugly again. With the amount of transfers they got this year, you’d think they are new and improved. I’m sure glad we don’t have the kinds of parents Damien seems to have….bitching here about your kids team doesn’t help anything….. It only puts doubts in your players who read this heads.

  • Seniors Only

To No Integrity: Let’s look at things from a different lens. You have a senior quarterback who has been at Damien for four years, being built up for the job, finished strong at the end of the last season and then loses the job to a sophomore transfer whose father donated money to the new football center. Lets look at the junior quarterback, who has been groomed for the last three years. Let’s look at this. Glendora went through this last year. Now Damien has it. This is not one or two or three. This is two years running from two different schools/parents.

    Bottom line: Zaldivar got robbed.

  • Keep it Real

Seniors only, you statements are confirmation of what I have stated several times. The blogging about Damien is about hurt Sr parents and kids. Your kids needs to compete week in and week out all year long just deal with it.
As for your other statements just because you say doesn’t make it true. The Sr did not finish last season strong he threw one goood pass in the Claremont game not a strong finish in anyones book. Donations to the football center…lol What football center? There is no such thing. What donation have been made that others haven’t made as well. Hell the Sr Qb’s dad has given way more to the school than Pucci ever will. In fact he was expressing that himself when he was complaning about his sons benching after the game Friday.
Again this all comes down to Sr parents who don’t like that their kids are are having to compete. Look I don’t really care your just isolating yourselfs and your kid. Your have no one to blame for not ejoying your kids last year ever of football except yourself. Heck let them compete they may actually win their jobs back.

Anyone else notice the Damien hate bloggers disappeared today just about the same time the spaghetti moms need to head over to Damien to feed the boys?

Arent the spaghetti moms mostly seniors?
Does anyone know how many of sons of spaghetti mom lost a significant amount of playing time?

Hmmmm this is very interesting.maybe there is something to the theory.

I wonder if the blogging will start agian tonight after a win and ttheir kids don’t play much.

Why don’t you shut the hell up old man. The shut the hell up and go put on some bandages on your injured lancers instead. This is a Damien issue and only Damien people need to be talking about it. What the hell do you care about our football team? You have enough to worry about with Shay, Alcantarra and half of your offensive line already hurt by Servite. And another thing, how would you know about the loss your lancers suffered against Friars? Didn’t you tell NotSince1995 that you were in Las Vegas last Friday? Are you kidding me? You went to vegas on the day of your team’s biggest game of the year? You’re a loser and a fake supporter of Bishop Amat. Now go away and leave Damien to our issues. Shoo!

  • DamienParent

    Curios aka Mr. Pucci

Just hope that little Pucci can produce against Chaffey. Ok? Cus if he doesn’t he sure isn’t gonna do it against Claremont, SHHS, Chinos Hill or Charter Oak. Go to church and pray that those underclassmen perform or its going to get uglier next week.

  • Interesting

I have no bone on either side of this just read all the comments. I read comments that had to much detail in them to be coming from a parent supporting Gano. This really sounds like Gano’s coaching staff is on this blog in an attempt to support Gano, just to much detailed information.

I do remember a few years back when Gano took this job, many LA supporters told Damien that is was going to come to this. Those younger recruites were going to take the seniors job. It wasn’t about competition, its about deals made to bring these younger kids over. IF Gano’s recruites end up being a bust this is going to be a very very long season, since Gano has commented to playing these kids.

  • You all disgust me!

Sitting back and reading this crap makes me sick. Damien and their supporters just aren’t what they use to be. Support the team, the kids, the school, the coach. You are all giving Damien a bad name. Disgusting!

    Gasbag73,

Even the Damien spaghetti Moms hate you… They must have heard about your “special relationship” with the Amat football program… It is true that there is no fool like an old fool… and you sir are an arrogant puffed up, idiotic, dottering, old, has-been fool…

  • CO Alumni

I came across this blog and decided to read some of it because Damien is in our league. It is comical to see the Damien parents ripping oneanother apart. I thought Damien was supposed to be a classy place, I guess not.

My bro-in-law was at the D Ranch game and said Damien looked weak. They are worse than last year when they were pretty weak. They should beat the door mat Chaffey team tonight, but so could our freshman team.

I can’t wait till league and we roll the Spartans.

  • Spartan 4 Life

    First off CO alumni,

Mind your own business. Keep talking and when our date does arrive let’s see what happens. First games are rarely great, unless you play weak teams to start off. Diamond Ranch is actually a good team. I agree tonight should be a blow out, and I think we will make that happen.

I’ve followed the team all summer, and we are a better team this year. We are just getting our rhythm. I do believe we will beat Amat this year, and not just because they are hurt and down this year. We will beat them because we are that much better. You don’t classify the entire season based on game one. It’s a steady progression.

And to all the parents being negative against Damien, and it’s coaches, you can go to hell as well. If you can’t support the team and its coaches keep your traps shut.

  • CO Alumni

There we go, nice job Spartan 4 Life,

Just as I mentioned before, real classy people at Damien. It’s nice of you to tell your own people to go to hell. Why aren’t you at the game Spartan 4 Life? You can make all summer practices but can’t support your team when they play. Let’s face it, you’re a douche.

We are going to destroy you come league. And not that I am an Amat fan, but they will handle you with ease next week also, even with half their starters out with injuries. Keep living in your fantasy world. Be happy with your win against the Chaffey team, because that will be as good as it gets for the Damien season.

Todays’ Bishop Amat Lancers are like that 50something COUGAR that hangs out at BJ’s Brewery in West Covina on a late Tuesday night.

She use to be hot…I mean really hot…until about 1996. Then she started to get in to some really bad Sh*t and she went down hill since. She went into rehab in 2009 and we thought she was gonna be hot again. But NO! She fell off the wagon and she’s back.

She back in her $9.99 Zodys polyester tiger print mini-dress, her 5 inch Shoe Teria Clear Heals, and her nasty vericose veins popping out.

She still remembers the good old days. She sighs and says “1995 was a great year. Too bad it was so long ago!”

This old broad is done. She just can’t compete with the hot 25 year olds anymore. Nobody buys her a drink and nobody sure as hell will go home with her. She just a sad old broad…

Amat, you better be ready. Tonight was a glimpse of what will happen to you next week. And after we kick your ass, I hope you don’t whine about being hurt or short handed. Say what you want about Chaffey, but you still have to be pretty damn good to put up 50 plus points on any team. Damien is now alive, and everybody better watch out. Pucci is for real, and the Spartans are going to tear it up.

So Amat coaches, put this up on your board if you need motivation for the 23rd. Do whatever you have to do to pump up your team, because the bus ride home will be another trip with the Amat boys licking their wounds, and wondering how the Spartans kicked your butts.

  • True Spartan Alumni

I hate to say it but I completely agree with CO fan. What is becoming of Damien is really embarrassing! We use to be a united family both on and off the field. Now there is parent against parent, parent against coaches etc… The players are also not united there is no brotherhood in that locker room. This is not the Damien way! Then there is the idiot that brings in the “Spaghetti Moms” ha ha how low can you go! geeezzz they feed our boys and are very happy to do so! I’m going to be honest and say that I have a senior player on the team. He has paid his dues for the last 3 yrs this one being his 4th in football. My son has been on the field about 4 times since last year . He is not a true athlete and he knows that and we know that. What has kept him going back to the game is not thinking he will start but the bond and brotherhood that has developed over the years with these boys. This year is totally different there is none of that. Mostly because of the negativity that other parents bring and yes because the coaches do not know how to have their players be a team. In the past its been the seniors putting the young ones under their wings. It created a bond. If this does not stop it will be a long long season. Coaches you started this now you need to put a stop to it as well!

  • http://QB College QB

The real QB of Damien High School is Chad Hockin and Coach Gano should really consider calling him back to play to put some serious yards up for the spartans cause Pucci and Zaldivar are horrible and are not getting the job done. They have not played a good team yet and Hockin could have been like his cousin Colt Brennan. Hockin is the best baseball player at Damien since Mark Mcgwire and could have been the best football player also but he decided to stick with baseball.

    Listen True Spartan Alumni,

So your senior boy paid his dues? The only thing that gives you the right to play is your ability. If your boy doesn’t have it, then he should continue being a sideline stroller. Gano came in to win games, not keep the parents happy by playing their sub par kids just because they are seniors.

Yes, my son is an underclassman and plays. But he plays because he deserves it. He helps the team win. So stop crying about your lack of playing time, and enjoy the wins. Enjoy the new blood in the program that will bring the winning back to Damien.

Oh, and if Hockins chose to not play football, then boo hoo, we’re better off without him.

  • http://QB Top High School Scout

Just wait until next week and your gonna wish you had a real quaterback. Hockin is the best athlete at damien and made the right decision of just playing baseball cause that’s what he’s gonna do for the rest of his career and its kind of funny because there is not one player on that roster that even has one scholarhsip to where as Hockin is loaded with them and has full rides and same with his little brother grant.

  • http://QB Damien parent

Haha and Chad Hockin is a junior not a senior.

  • jim

Well it looks like coach was not such an idiot after all huh? Damien put up 52 last nite, where is all the hate??? IDIOTS!!! Let the coach, COACH. If you idiots know so much about HS football, maybe you should get off your a** and go coach a football team. So other idiots can talk about what a terrible job YOU are doing!!!

  • Real Damien Fan

Can’t believe how pathetic some of these parents have become at Damien.

To start with the most recent, to lose the Hockins brothers was a huge loss for the football program. Any parent/player/coach would know that. Its getting old hearing these parents blogging stating they are happy that talented athletes are gone and its not just them. Damien continues to lose players each year.

As for the underclassmen Dad (there is only five or six of you) and we all know who the parent is that is telling the other parents to shut the hell up (New blood/Damien Dad/Damien Parent). Let’s school you on football. To talk down to the parent whose kid is on the bench or saying good riddance to two 6’1 incredibly athletic kids who could have played any multiple positions on that Varsity today tells me you have no idea what makes a team, what being a Spartan is or understanding sports all together. You need those kids on the bench. They are the heart of the team (and this is coming from a parent that has a starting player). Those kids bleed green, work hard and want to be part of something great. A team is only as good as their weakest link. You need every good athletic body at that school on that field. Only an inferior parent would wish less for their team.

Lastly, you need to respect your elders. Whether at Amat, Damien or anywhere. If you are a true Spartan, then look around the stands and see alumni have come to these games since they graduated. No kid or grandson on the team. Just coming because they were once those players and they cheer for their Spartan men. To forget our history, we are doomed to repeat it.

Start teaching your sons to be leaders. A leader isn’t the fastest kid on the field. A leader is someone who never forgets their men. All of them. And they play for all of them. And they embrace the challenge. Even if that means someone or something that could be better. They never under estimate their opponent. Never. That is a leader.

    Start being examples Damien parents.

  • Love Hurts

Damien fans, please see the first entry on the blog today re:Amat. Read the story. It was C H A F F E Y. Don’t fall prey to the very thing that Aram writes about regarding Amat. Good “W” though!

  • The last Time Damien was a Factor…..

“Love the Zody’s reference, now throw in a White Front or an Alpha Beta and we’ll really be going back to your glory days!”

The last time Damien football mattered was when these businesses were in their prime…what’s it been? 30-40 years???? LOL

  • Keep it real

    Real Damien Fan,
Dont act like you know whos saying what on this blog because you dont. Just like you, everyone on this blog is anonymous and if you think you know whos who youre only fooling yourself.
The Hockins boys gave up football because there not football players. I have known them since they were youngsters and they have never been nor will they ever be football players. The effort it would take them to develop into football players is better server refining their excellent baseball skills. That doesnt mean their athleticism could not be utilize for football but it was their choice and they made the right one as far as I am concerned.
Your idea that ever kid works hard and bleeds green is just a foolish notion. If you go to practice you see the kids who just want to wear the jersey on Friday nights. They loaf through the practice getting water, avoiding drills, looking for trainers. See the difference between a BA team and Damien team is Coach Hagerty weeds those kids out by running a rigorous program with high standards that are not compromised(I have had this conversation with Coach Hagerty). Damien is full of families and kids who think they get to define the standards and you have a coaching staff that is allowing that to happen.
As for your heritage you had yours so let these kids have theirs. You figured it out and so will they. Let them define their own and I am confident you will see it will be in line with your expectations. You didnt need a bunch of 80 year old men lecturing you and neither do they. You listened to Coach Larson, let them listen to Coach Gano. Stop fighting the evolution because its that evolution that created the Damien Way.

  • AMAT 73

    DamienParent and Dad,
If you believe everything on this blog that is said to notsince ,well good luck . Either way our teams face each other next week and since none of us will be on the field why don’t we just wait and see what happens that night . Good win against Chaffey last night and I hope your qb situation is taken care of by next week as it seems both did well. By the way are you two part of this new Damien Nation springing up over there that’s causing so much in house bickering.

  • Damien parent and fans

Someone needs to talk to the Hockin boys on getting back to the field because we could use them significantly. Chad Hockin is the QB and Grant Hockin is the reciever/ QB they could seriously put some yards and points up for us. Chad and Grant connect very well on the field and can make it happen. No QB at Damien has an arm or accuracy and speed in the pocket like Chad does and Grant has great hands and also has an arm.

  • Damien fan

We haven’t played any good teams and those other QB’s won’t handel the tough teams(Amat, j-serra, canyon) defense and Chad doesn’t choke under pressure like Zaldivar and Pucci. You can’t say anything about us being a good team and Pucci or Zaldivar being good cause we have played Chaffey and diamond ranch who are garbage. Those QB’s can’t handel the pressure of playing good teams.

  • CHANGE OF THOUGHT PERHAPS DAMIEN

Well you saw what Amat did even though they were banged up and licking wounds as you all said. Now who’s shaking in their boots. Your up next and if you think Amat needs bulletin board smack from your likes forget it . You’re still the same old damien regardless of the win over Chaffey.

  • DamienParent

    Bishop

We were their watching and we’re ready to give you what you got at Servite. Nobody in boots here, boy. Bring your big boy pads and leave your 5′ 10′ 210 linemen home with the JV squad cus you’re gonna need bigger boys to stop our running game. We’re gonna do you like Servite.

  • LNCR BKR

Looking forward to a typical Amat vs. Damien atmosphere come Friday night! True Damien Fans know…. that the clown on here providing his own entertainment pretending to be an Amat Family Member and Damien supporter too… is a joke! Good Luck Friday night Spartans and let’s have a good injury free night of football.
    Go Amat!
    Go Lancers!

  • Been gone for a year but glad you missed me

I wish my stalkers would grow a set. Here’s the deal. Love Gano, he’s a friend for all his off field concern plus he’s a winner, always has been. Plus he has a great kid which puts him Aces in my book. So all talk about bashing him are BS…same goes for all the staff who I admire as people and coaches…so please cut the BS and get a clue. As far as the Qbs go..couldn’t care less who starts. Wish them all the best. Z has a great arm but needs something, Alfaro was a great read but wasn’t 100% commited and regressed and Pucci hands the ball off very well and not much else as his technique needs work and his body needs to get stronger..which I’m sure will come with time. All have QB issues that hopefully they work out, from footwork, to work ethic, to condfidence, to commitment…all are works in progress and none will be Mendrun EVER..heck they won’t be Pertusati and he was just serviceable. Six brothers, and five of us were HS QBs so I call them like I see them. Wish Damein the best against Bishop.

  • Been a while but…

Just so there is no BS with the Puccis who came from Glendora. Every man is his own person, and should be judged accordingly. Talked to the Pucci brothers and we get along fine. No hateration at all so please stop the “maybe it’s Corona” BS when discussing his son’s play. Aram knows I haven’t been on here since he blocked me for calling him a the “D” word almost a year ago. In truth he did me a favor…lol. Came on to address the drama and to put out a fire before it starts. Get along great with all the “new” and “old” Damien parents so let’s leave it there. About the transfers..haven’t seen one transfer who doesn’t give 100%..all are great additions. Still wished Hockins played but that’s life…let’s move on.
